Netflix original Haunting of Hill House......

Yeah it’s creepy, but if you’re vomiting & passing out over this, life must be tough for you (collective you).
Watching now and it's so dark I can't even see anything scary. I don't know what's going on. On epi 2 so maybe it hasn't begun yet.

So I ended up watching the first episode and it was creepy scary but not that really gross horror that AHS was into. Unless AHS better now, shudder. Will watch the second episode tonight most likely of Hill House.

I really liked this but didn't find it very scary, more creepy. I do love how it was done with the past and present scenes. Normally I don't like that as alot of times I think it gets over done in movies and shows but it totally works well here. Plus I thought the plot line was good which isn't the case in most of horror movies/shows made lately IMO.
There was one moment that made me literally jump but it isn't filled with that stuff or gore. I don't know who is throwing up and passing out when watching it, maybe people who have partied pretty hard before tuning in and would have done that anyway.

So I'm way far in now...just finished the epi that showed the night the mom died and the dad took the kids out of the house to hotel. I want to watch more but apparently I can't see anything in the dark scenes during daylight time as my living room is very bright. Early morning and early evening is good to watch but also can't watch later in the evening or I'll be too scared to sleep. It's scary but not too much for me. The scene with Luke in the dumbwaiter in the secret basement...scary creepy. I was feeling panic for the poor little guy.

Just finished it today. WOW....this show will stick with me for a long time. It was so well done! PSA, you will need a box of tissues for the last episode. I was not aware of this, so my sleeve took the brunt of the assault coming from my eyeballs.

Also, if you are not aware, it is based on a Shirley Jackson novel. If you are a fan of hers.

It was very good but the ending was kinda dumb. Not what I expected. Particularly the bit about Abby and her parents. That was the part that didn't fit.

We just finished it tonight, too. I have struggled to sleep all weekend thanks to the show but it was more than the scares (though that's part of it!) but also the story. Somewhere online I saw it described as the horror version of This is Us and I get it. Except I'd argue the story is much more in depth, more emotional, and with better acting than This is Us ;) At it's core, it's a story about family.

I cried through the last episode, too.

My family and I think this is one of the best versions of this book yet and a terrific ghost story and family dynamic! Just enough scary at times, no gross out moments, and well done on the nerves at times. We loved how the father came through at the end to save his kids! The ending made us all cry and we are rooting for this to get nominated for everything - story, sets, acting and directing. We read that there are many spirits watching in the background and windows throughout many scenes, so we want to go back and watch it again to see what we missed.

Another great one to keep you on the edge of your seat -- The Changeling with George C. Scott! Terrific ghost movie.

I really liked this story until the last episode. I had higher expectations for the finale.

Still good and definitely made me think after each episode.

It's suspenseful like Silence of the Lambs was suspenseful.

I agree about the under the bed scene. I think I said out loud, "Holy Smokes!"

I really enjoyed it and I'm not much into the horror genre. The biggest jump for me was the one in the car, if you've seen it you which one it is lol

I appreciated that it was a story of the aftermath of living in an haunted house, usually those kind of movies end when the family leaves. It was interesting to see how it affected the kids and dad.

Yes, that is the one that got me too! I think I actually came off the couch I jumped so high LOL

We're about 6 episodes in. Agree, its more suspenseful than gory. Some good jumps for me. The show is a little slow at times, but I'm otherwise interested and will finish it out.

As a side note, for any Netflix fans in general, the women who play Theo and the mother were both in the Netflix original movie Gerald's Game. I see a lot of re-using of actors throughout Netflix's original programming.

Even my husband screamed. :scared1:

Finally someone else that knows "The Changeling"!! (Not to be confused with Changeling starring Angelina Jolie!) I love that movie. It is such a classic ghost story. I was just trying to explain it to a friend last weekend and found the whole move on You Tube.

I made it through one episode and can’t watch anymore. I can’t handle shows of movies about spooky creatures visiting you while you sleep. NOPE

I am a big horror fan, have watched every season of American Horror Story, go see lots of horror movies with my friends in the theaters. All said, this isn't as "intense" as any season of AHS, there's just a looming sense of dread throughout. My husband left the room while I was watching because he said it was "too boring". There's maybe about 4-5 minutes of actual horror (mostly trite jump scares) in each 40 something minute long episode. The rest is all emotional family interactions, which are well acted and well done, but it's not overly frightening. If you pay attention, any of the the "twists" in the show will hit you from a mile away. I know it sounds like I hate the show, which I absolutely don't, but would say if you're worried it's going to be too intense, I think it's fine.
