EPCOT Bus Stop and finding your way after Illuminations with a wheelchair 12/2018.

I was staying at Disney Pop Century Resort and left by bus to EPCOT park.

Sometimes the Disney bus drops you off at the park at other bus stops instead of the Pop Century Resort bus stop.

Sometimes they have to pick guests up at EPCOT at another resort's sport besides Pop Century Resort to go to that assigned resort.

When my Disney bus arrived at EPCOT this visit they dropped me off at one of the non-Disney resort bus stops used by charter buses and resorts outside of Walt Disney World.

This is a photo after I got off of the bus looking at the Disney EPCOT bus stop #16.

It is the very last bus stop at the end of the line.

The following photos show my path by wheelchair that I would take after the EPCOT park closes after Illuminations.

When I exit the EPCOT park I try and stay in the far left side of the wide sidewalk. The first Disney resort bus stops are located on my right at a perpendicular covered section.

I took this photos during the day so no one was around.

But if you have ever left after the EPCOT park closes, you know that is people to people packed front and back and side to side all the way to EPCOT's Pop Century bus stop.

So I wheeled over and took pictures of the bus stops 1 thru 5.

Now I look to my left.

This is EPCOT bus stop for #6 resort.

All the way down you can't even see the end of the sidewalk is where EPCOT's #16 Pop Century Resort bus stop.

And you can't even see the far left side of the sidewalk where I would ususlly stay so that guest will all be to my left.

This is a photo of the bus stops sign to the left of the bus stop #6 in the photo above.

There are more bus stop signs.

You can read the EPCOT bus stops 1 thru 5 and bus stop # 6 and some others further down the sidewalk.

They also point to the bus parking lot to the right where I was dropped off in the first photo. They use this area for Taxis, Ride Share, and guest pick-up/drop-off.

Since the contract buses are located in the area, many times a whole bus full of guests gather at this spot causing a very large traffic jam.

By now, you should realize you should already know your bus stop number before entering the park so you won't make a mistake and enter the wrong line and have to fight your way back against the park closing crowd all looking for their bus stop back to their resort.

I walk down further and I find another covered perpendicular to the other bus stops for #10 thru #13.

For me, I am back on the far left side with my wheelchair because I know that the EPCOT Pop Century bus stop is at the end of the sidewalk.

Finally, I am almost at the end of the sidewalk. I enter #16 queue that will take me to the very last EPCOT bus stop that goes to Pop Century Resort.

I can still keep my wheelchair on the far left side of the sidewalk because that is the queue that I need to get in.

See why I say to stay on the left side in a wheelchair?

I have finally arrived.

I should have taken a wider photo because on the far left when you reach this section is a sign for a line for cast members only. Don't walk or roll down this queue. In the photo below you can possibly see a rope line with space on the other side before the bushes. Don't go this way.

This is not what the crowd will look like at closing.

I usually wait for 15-minutes after Illuminations to avoid most of the maddening crowd through EPCOT park and to the EPCOT exit and sidewalk.

This is a mainstream queue meaning that scooter and wheelchairs get in line with all the other guest until they reach the front row and see the rope with the handicap sign.

I have reached the handicap entrance at the front row, all of the other guests will continue to line up further down the first row.

Sometimes in the darkness at night and in the crowds, some folks enter the cast member only line.

That handicap sign is deceiving in that if you are on the far left of the handicap sign on the rope you missed the sign that you entered the cast member only line pathway to their parking area.

The front row has a metal fence with the space to roll through between the two metal fences to wait at the yellow line for the bus driver to wave you on the bus.

Approach the bus ramp making a wide turn. Hug the chain fence on the left so that you can make a left turn that ends up with you as close to square with the ramp as possible.

The bus ramp has raised yellow guards that are difficult for the wheels to ride over if you turn and ride over them. Turn your speed know down to just enough power to get you slowly up the ramp.

The bench has already been folded up. Usually, they only load two vehicles per bus although sometimes load three if the bus has that ability and the bus driver thinks that the line is not too long.

As you drive the scooter up the ramp, be prepared to make a right turn toward the front of the bus. This allows you to back up and parallel park like a car into the handicap space. It is very important that the speed/power setting is set as low as possible so that you don't accidentally gun it and hit the bus driver or anything or anybody.

At any point, you can ask the Disney bus driver to steer the scooter for you back into its handicap space.

Most Disney bus drivers ask you to sit on the bench if you can.

If you can't move, don't worry because they will attach the seat belt for you and all scooter and wheelchairs are strapped down in the front and back in case there is a sharp turn that might tip the scooter or wheelchair over while traveling.

My wheelchair is strapped in and ready to go to back to Pop Century Resort. I just need the seat belt attached.

It is a lot easier to park the wheelchair because of its small footprint.

Now the bus driver will close the ramp and door and allow the rest of the guest to fill up the bus from the front door of the bus.

I will have other photos at bus stops at the different parks posted as new threads.

As when driving up the bus ramp, be careful exiting using the lowest speed/power and go slow and straight.

Exit all of the way past the ramp before turning your scooter/wheelchair so that you won't tip over by driving over or getting stuck on the ramp guard on each side of the ramp.

You could practice parallel parking your scooter outside your resort room wall by trying not to hit the wall with your rear wheels and not being too far away from the wall.

If you just don't feel comfortable, just ask the Disney bus driver to help you.

I have seen him do this for a lot of the guests that have rented a scooter and do not have the experience to park.

Every Disney bus stop at resorts and parks seem to be a little different. Some are mainstream where you ride your wheelchair in the bus queue with everyone else. When you reach the last row, you may see a gate or a rope or a chain with a handicap symbol.

This is where you enter and wait for the Disney bus driver to signal you to board the bus.

Personally, I prefer the mainstream lines.

Others are not mainstream queues like at Disney Pop Century Resort. Here are those photos.

Sometimes a bus has to let off other scooters that are coming to the park and must exit before you load at Pop Century Resort. Instead of driving up to the open door and ramp, it might be best to wait for the bus driver to signal you when to advance from the yellow line on the pavement.

For the other guests, the bus driver will open the front bus door and inform guests that he will let them onboard after he unloads and/or loads the scooters/wheelchairs. He will then close the front bus door.

You might see the bus lower as he opens the rear side door and lowers the ramp.

After loading the wheelchairs/scooters, he lets the other guests enter the front bus door until there is standing room only.

It is so much easier to load the scooter/wheelchairs first without any other guests standing in the way.

The same is to be said at arriving at the theme park. It is easier to let all of the guests to walk off first to the parks and then with the bus is empty to unload the scooter/wheelchairs.

Although some Disney bus resorts make multiple stops like at POR, PO, Caribbean Beach, etc..

You can't know what bus stop you'll need to go to before you leave the park, because stop assignments change during the day. For example, in your photo all the All-Stars are at #11, but at park closing they would probably be at #11, #12, & #13 depending on which All-Star.

While it's true that there are multiple signs listing stop numbers, all the stops currently in use should be listed on the large directory sign at the entrance to the bus area (unless someone is not doing their job.)

Where there are separate lanes for wheelchairs, Guests sometimes get confused about whether they should be in the lane at the front or at the rear of the load zone. Generally, they should wait at the rear, so they don't have to navigate around the ramp to get lined up with it.

I also recommend trying to get the driver's attention by waving or making eye contact when the bus is pulling in, so he doesn't miss you, especially where wheelchairs are in the mainstream queue.

I agree with everything that you said joelkfla.

When I took all of the photos, I took them in order of my exit from EPCOT. The first photo sign photo was the first photo sign that I saw when I arrived at the Disney bus stop area. The same with the views of the bus stops.

It is still a good idea to know where you are parking your car at the parks to know the number of the area where you parked your car. I saw several guests not know where their bus was when exiting.

At EPCOT it is very dark at night, but mainly very crowded as you walk to your bus. Sometimes you can't get close enough to the sign because of the crowd, especially in a wheelchair.

Knowing your bus stop number really helps when exiting the park at night in a very crowded situation and then verify by sign if you can get close enough.

At least knowing where the All-Stars bus stop is located, you can prepare yourself as you walk to your bus stop and see the three different All-Stars queues when they put them up.

Sometimes like with the photos that I took the bus numbers are turned at the queues like an All-Stars and sometimes the ropes are not all attached to the poles at the queues when I arrive in the late morning or early afternoon. But when I return at night the ropes are all put up properly and signs.

I guess I post this for newbies.

Thank you, joelkfla for your info and insight.
