Not a word (peeve thread - what's yours?)

Shaming as a verb. You are making fun of someone, not shaming them. If you making fun of them makes them feel shame that is on them. What's worse is dictionaries are starting to incorporate these stupid definitions. Literal has been changed to a synonym of figuratively in some dictionaries.

If you are "literally dying" you need medical intervention.

totes. Short for totally. Like if someone says, It's totes cold outside. Followed by adorbs.

The only acceptable usage:

And learn how to use ellipses. "..." should not be used 25 times in two-three short paragraphs.

There is a restaurant here in a building that is under construction, and to let people know they are open during the construction they printed up big signs that say:
"serving" lunch and dinner daily.

Seriously? Who printed that for you and didn't tell you not to do it? I don't want to know what "serving" means to them.

That usage of "shaming" is really not new: it is defined in the 1953 American College Dictionary in my office as "to cause to feel shame; make ashamed," which is generally how I see the word applied these days.

Dictionaries are full of these garbage definitions of words. I still count "shame" up there with the misuse of "literally" of "axing" someone something. You can find it somewhere in a dictionary but that doesn't make it any less stupid sounding.
