How much do WDW rain ponchos cost?

We have only been caught in one rainstorm at Disney and it was a bad one. We picked up Disney ponchos and felt great. I don't think I'd want to carry around a "just in case" poncho unless I knew it was going to rain.

I guess I'm the crazy person who likes both the Cubs and the Sox. We have both the Disney ponchos and the $1 store ones. We bought the Disney ones on a day of all day rain. The cheap ponchos start to stick to you like Saran wrap and they're hard to keep dry when you keep piling them on and off. The Disney ponchos were well worth the money on a day of significant rain (they are more like the $4-5 ponchos at Walmart if you want to get heavy duty ones cheaper ahead of time). But they are way too heavy to carry around every day in case of a random down pour (or they are when have 5 of them). We carry the cheap ponchos for that since they are so small and light. They are perfect for the unexpected shower. We take both types on each trip but only bring the heavy ones on big rain days.

The Disney ones have held up for 4 or 5 trips but one of the child ones now has a rip.

I keep hearing they will replace the ripped one for free, but I’ve never actually tried it.

I've read that too but i'm not sure I would do that since we've had them for several years. If another one ripped while I was wearing it in a park during a storm I would do it but probably not in our current case.

We bought the Disney ones on our trip last month and my 5 year old son ripped his within 1 hour of wearing it, they did replace it for free. All I had to do was show them the rip and point at my kid. They are much thicker than the cheap ones, my son is just hard on clothes and apparently ponchos. My husband also tore his later that day, I think because he's 6'7" and it fits him like a shirt more than a poncho. Again, Disney replaced for free after asking to see the rip.

I think I'm also someone who would do the cheap poncho/Disney poncho combo. Because the cheap ponchos take up much less space in a bag and if it's not going to be a heavy rain day then those would be easier to carry.

We bought 6 of the Disney ones for $9 each, there was steady rain all day on 12/20 when we were there and we were very glad we bought them. They were selling them all over the parks at most stores. I plan to keep ours and bring them for future trips. Been going for 12 years and that was rainiest day we have had yet.

They replaced mine for free and I didn't even ask. I had ripped mine down the side by catching it on something (my fault and not a faulty poncho). I went into the gift shop by American Adventure to ask if I could use their stapler to try and salvage the poncho for the rest of the day. The CM chuckled at my request and just gave me a new one.

I've purchased one Disney poncho in 20+ trips, for $9. How many dollar ponchos have you purchased in that time?

Two, and that was only because we didn't dry the first one before I folded it and it got nasty. So I'm $2 in, after many years and many, trips.

The Wal-Mart ones are made of plastic, just like the WDW ones. It's not like they're going to fade or deteriorate away.

I'm the same way. We have both. On a day we expect it to be stormy, we bring the nice ones. Other times, we keep the cheap ones in the bag "just in case". That way if we get caught in an unexpected storm, we are covered. We are also covered if we aren't feeling lucky heading onto Splash Mountain. I like being able to toss those when we take them off. We also like having nicer ones for heavier rain days.

I think it's funny that people have such strong feelings on this. But then I suspect those with strong feelings on something like rain ponchos probably are also very opinionated in other areas of life.

Once you see the CM's placing the ponchos out in view, know it will be raining within the hour. All the locations get weather updates from Disney services and to put the ponchos out in clear view.

I have both. My good Disney ones are from the early 90’s and come with us each trip. The cheap Walmart are “ just in case” throw aways. My years old Disney ones ( the yellow ones Does anyone remember them) are worth every penny I paid for them.

I still have my yellow one from DL. That thing looks just like new after 20 years.

The WDW ones are nice and heavy duty, similar to the DLR one. Like a PP said, Disney will replace them for free if they tear, even if it's your next trip.

They are heavy-duty, but also make you feel all sticky and sweaty because of how thick the plastic is. They tend to really cling to you.
