Do you prefer a patio or a balcony and why?

It really depends on your needs! I lean toward a balcony for privacy, but patios are bigger! I have also had patios where I can walk to and from the pool without going through the main hotel entrance... this is helpful, especially if we want a snack/drink/

I want nothing to do with the ground floor for security reasons, and for noise reasons. So balcony wins over patio.

Balcony. I dislike patios for all of the reasons others have mentioned. I’ve only stayed in a room at Disney once that had a patio. It was an upgrade so I didn’t want to ask for a different room! Usually, though, when hotels (not Disney) give me a ground floor room, I ask for a different one.

Patios being ground floor means your susceptible to having those little lizards around and if not careful with the door, possibly enter your room. We've had it happen before, and I've heard it happening to ground floor rooms when housekeeping props the door open. I also agree that location plays an important role for privacy. All that said, I do think a patio gives you more useable space since its a bit larger.

I'm happy with either, but overall I prefer being on the first floor. Easy in and out, never deal with the elevator.

I think higher rooms are usually quieter, but I would prefer a patio because of my kids. They scare the crap out of me when we have a balcony ... and yes, they are all old enough to know better.

I always request a balcony, high floor. Patio, it would depend on location. I wouldn’t like ones where people can see into rooms. I don’t like having to keep drapes closed all day having a dark room.

No patio. Snakes. I've seen several close to various buildings. :scared:
Snakes can climb. Lizards, too. Problem with patio at the Polynesian is that people steal the chairs off your patio to watch the fireworks. Not sure this is a problem at other resorts.

I will always request a higher floor and always prefer a balcony. I find it more private and more relaxing with my morning coffee and nightly drink.

Yeah..... I keep remembering that post from years ago of the snake who laid eggs in a CR wing room. I think it was the 3rd floor. :scared::scared::scared: At least they are more visible on a deck than patio.

Love a patio at Poly if it leads to a beach. When my kids were at the perfect ages, it was such a fun thing for them to go out on the beach while we were in the room. I loved sitting on the patio watching them play, and it was also an easy walk over to roast marshmallows.

Most other resorts, I prefer a balcony unless it is a situation like at Poly.

Yep, that was the one I was thinking about. I saw the photos of the snake curled up on the curtain rod over the slider. Yikes.

balcony for me I like the higher views and last time I had a patio was at GF and right by walkway, anyone walking by could see right in.

I have too and it was awesome!!! We are booked at a resort in Aruba and staying concierge level. This means one of the top three floors. My DD and her family would give up the space if it meant we had a patio room on one of the lower floors becuase the walk is right to the pool. In this resort we cannot do that, but hey still dream! LOL!!!
