Best Resort For a Resort Vacation

Hello, I am trying to figure out which resort I would like to book for our 2 night post DCL vacation in Aug. We are looking at not doing any of the parks just enjoying the resort and Disney Springs. Which resort would you recommend based on the amount of activities and of course the pool complex.

If I could stay at any resort and I wasn't taking into account how long it would take to get to the a park, Id chose Animal Kingdom. But you'd still have to drive to get to Disney Springs.

I would look at one of the non-disney resorts that are across the street from Disney Springs. It will be alot cheaper and you can walk across the street to your destination.

Right if they just wanted to visit Disney Springs for the entire time. But it sounded like OP wanted to "enjoy" resort. The Disney Springs hotels are more of a place to just rest your head.

Beach Club or Yacht Club - and not even close if you like pools and/or water stuff.

It's basically like having a water park at your hotel. Between your resort and the entire Boardwalk area you have plenty of places to eat and shop. Just a great area to be in for a couple of days and not leave.

Animal Kingdom Lodge, absolutely! It's amazing there, tons of activities, great dining between both buildings, animals, tours...I always say if we were to do a non-parks trip, we'd stay at AKL.

I'd find it a bit of a tease to stay at YC/BC/BW and look over at Epcot without a plan to go in at all. So my pick would be one of the beautiful sprawling resorts with lots to do within walking distance of your room. I like:

Animal Kingdom Lodge - great restaurants, pools, animal viewing, etc.
Wilderness Lodge - good restaurants, nice pools, love the lakefront and the walk/bike over to Fort Wilderness activities
Saratoga Springs - good pools, water and golf views, walk/boat to Disney Springs

I'd even consider Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort, next door to Caribbean Beach. It's technically offsite but really nice, with condo high-rises surrounding a lake, pretty grounds, good pools, tons of activities, short drive/Uber to Disney Springs or Typhoon Lagoon. There are 3 upscale hotel resorts (and their restaurants, spas, golf) within walking distance or very short drive.

If it was me, I would go with Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, or any of the Epcot resorts. What a wonderful time you'd have at any of those! If there are children along, those Epcot resorts might be a little too tempting, though, like Lisa P. mentioned.

My choice would be AKL. It's beautiful, they have a lot of resort activities and you will be fairly close to DS. If AKL isn't in the budget, I would consider POFQ or POR. Both beautiful and they have boat access to DS.

I’ve stayed at AKL, POR and WL pre cruise. They are all fine. Like other have said we spent a day at Disney springs, used the pool ect. Since it’s just a day or day and a half I don’t think your going to be bored at any resort. Since your going in August I would want indoor hallways and lots of AC. Also be realistic about pool time. Sometimes the pools close for hours if there is a lightening in the area.

I would stay at POFQ or POR to avoid driving or take the bus to Disney Springs.

I would pick AKL, so unique and great place for enjoying resort. Disney Springs is just a bus ride away.

POR would be a great second choice with the boat to Disney Springs.

^^^This! Exactly what I was going to say.

We just got back from Saratoga Springs. We were in a preferred room, which means we were in the section right by Disney Springs (it's a big resort). We loved it. Being able to walk right from our room to Disney Springs was great. The pools were so nice. Sitting in the chairs along the water and looking out at Springs was awesome. I would highly recommend it, it's one of my now favorite resorts.

Another vote for Saratoga Springs. Being able to walk to Disney Springs is a must if you're not going to the parks. And the resort itself is fantastic with 2 major feature pools and couple of other quieter ones. We really like the Turf Club for dinner and enjoyed the quick service places, too. Being at one of the Epcot resorts would make me want to be at Epcot. Don't have that temptation at Saratoga!

There was also just a refurbishment of Saratoga Springs. And they now have awesome murphy couch beds (so much better than the pull out couches).

Board Walk. The aerials of Illuminations are visible from several spots there, board walk itself is like a park when the buskers come out at night, you can ride the Friendship boats and there are several pubs and dining options.
