Get me excited for Old Key West

I'm staying at Old Key West resort in a few weeks through a family member's DVC membership. I've never stayed there before and while I'm sure it'll be lovely, it's not one of the more sought after or buzzed about resorts. I can't find an OKW photo thread. Anyone have fun photos to share of the resort? I'm having a hard time getting excited about the resort.

Virtually everyone who stays there is a DVC member, so you might get more responses on the DVC boards. We love the fact that you can park right at your building, giving a really homey feeling.

First, I suggest you head over the DVC resorts forum for pictures. Those folks will share gladly.

My family just returned from a cash stay. I think that as a DVC unit you should temper your expectations because this is not like a regular resort stay. No towels and room cleaning daily, etc. The QS options are nice but very limited IMO, however an owner explained that they want it this way, and vote on amenities. The resort is large.

Now to the fun! This is a lovely resort, large but stunningly laid out. It is truly a home away from home so do use it as such. For us there was a bit of a learning curve because we were used to popping in to a QS to get morning coffee etc, but this is not always convenient at OKW. So make sure you have your food etc to prepare in your kitchen or kitchenette, and you will be ready!

There are so many things to do on the grounds, from shuffleboard to running to grilling. There is a hospitality house that lends games and movies. The pools are so convenient and IMO quiet and inviting.
Our room was spotless.
The CM's awesome! They were friendly, every one of them we encountered. They were professional as well, which means a great deal when you rely on them to ensure your trip details are covered.

While this resort would not be my preference every trip, it worked well for us in December, and I would not hesitate to book it again in the future. I would be sure to place a larger grocery order, and know in advance that I might want to use Lyft when I am in a hurry rather than Disney transportation.

I haven't stayed here but I have visited a few times to take pictures and eat at Olivia's ( which is one of the best table service locations at Disney, IMO ).

OKW is on my short list for our next visit. I’ve never stayed here, but did make a stop while on Magical Express. I was very impressed with how relaxing and beautiful the resort looks

We don’t own DVC, but we stay at OKW every February. It’s awesome! I wasnt Excited about staying there the first time either, but I loved it.
The rooms are so much bigger than the rest of the DVC properties. It’s great to have a kitchen a kitchen and a living room to hang out in as opposed to sitting on your beds. The balconies are large enough to accommodate a full size table and chairs on the 1 & 2 BR units.
The place is huge, but you can hop on any bus to get to the hospitality house, Olivia’s is a great breakfast spot, the theme pool has a great water slide that my nephew adores, and there are a ton of things to do at the resort.
It’s also a very laid back and low key resort, which is really nice in contrast to the parks, feels like vacation there haha.

Are you staying in a studio/1BDR, 2BDR?

I would head over to the DVC forums. Google pictures too. It is one of my home resorts. It is a very pretty, laid back condo style resort. Take a walk around, browse the shop, Goods to Go (quick service), Gurgling Suitcase (the bar near the main pool), the community center, have a meal at Olivia's, etc. etc.

The rooms are huge and were just refurbished (or almost finished). We go back and stay here for a week in May. It's been a while for us since we stayed here a full week. Have stayed a night here and thee so we are looking forward to it.

Come back and tells us what you think :)

Just got home yesterday morning - WOW! We loved Old Key West! It's definitely understated and low-key, just what you need to decompress after a busy park day. So quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Had 2 meals at Olivia's, one breakfast and one unplanned dinner which ended up being the best meal of our trip. Server Donna was amazing! Took advantage of the free DVDs to borrow from Community Hall on a rainy day after being freezing and wet in Animal Kingdom all day. That cozy evening at the resort is one of my favorite memories of the whole vacation. Will definitely return and highly recommend OKW!!
