Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Opening Day *August 29* Planning Thread

We have a Spring Break trip already book and a Christmas week trip booked but I am still going to do everything I can to be there on opening day. It will only be me and a good friend if we can swing it. I know it will be insane and the crowds will be epic but I can deal with it.

Has anyone else noticed that EVERYTHING they've been advertising is through 9/30/19... the last check-in day for free dining, the new events that started today are all through 9/30, etc. We check-in on 9/30, so I'm anxious for what to expect for our trip.

ETA: just saw this on Disney Parks Blog "A great way to experience all this new fun and excitement is by purchasing one of our new 4-Park Magic Tickets, which go on sale today. Experience all the magic with a 4-day, 4-Park Magic Select ticket for $89 per day (plus tax) for a total price of $356 (plus tax). Valid for admission: Jan. 18-March 14, 2019, March 27-April 9, 2019, April 27-May 27, 2019, and Aug. 19-Sept. 30, 2019. (Limit one admission per theme park, and one park per day.) For more information and to learn about other 4-Park Magic Tickets, click here.

4-Park Magic Tickets can be used to enter each theme park only once. Tickets must be used within 7 days of first use or by Sept. 30, 2019, whichever comes first. All tickets and options are nontransferable and nonrefundable and exclude activities/events separately priced. No credit or refund will be given for higher-priced tickets used on lower-priced dates."

We hope to be at opening day at WDW. We’re booked for Nov 30 - Dec 7. I’m thinking about making another reservation for later in December. We are staying club level at Boardwalk Inn, and will purchase fast passes if the club level trial program is still going.

Disneyland is my local park, and as easy as it would be to get there, I do not plan to visit for opening day, not without a hard ticket option. WDW is just built differently and, for us, crowds at WDW never feel anywhere as crowded as in DL. My initial plan for DL is to wait and see. I’ll wait to hear what the initial brave souls here say, then I may brave the crowds at DL for Halloween or earlier if they offer a hard ticket event.

DL is our home park, too, and no way are we going for opening day! If you get to DW for opening, let us know all about it! We won't be going to DW until Dec., so I'm pretty sure we'll miss opening, but I'll be keeping a close watch on all the info. coming in so when we do get there we'll have a solid plan. That's what I did for Pandora, too, and that worked out great.

Thank you so much for this thread. My family and I will be with ABD Disneyland Resort and Southern California June 16-21. I wonder if ABD will do anything special for SWGE? Either way, we are so excited to be making some great memories! :earsboy:
I’m really curious if they’ll include any SWGE aspects in the ABD tours. We’re also doing DL Resort and S Cali, but in August.

What paid events/extras do you think we'll see for the opening of SWGE? Morning Magic or after hours events? Do you think there'll be a "tour" type deal where you get front of line access to the rides etc?

I don't think the question is whether or not, but how much it'll cost. I'm curious to see how much they'll actually charge for special access events for SWGE.

Following along, we would like to make it to opening day at WDW. We were at opening day of Pandora and TSL so trying to keep the streak going. I know the crowds will be ridiculously insane but there's just something about the excitement of being there opening day.

Disney's Financial year ends Sept 30th with the new year starting Oct 1st, so that is why I think they have that as the exact end date for these promotions. Also, they have been saying "Fall" for all of the big new stuff (GE, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, the Skyliner, etc.) - so I think it points more to some new stuff being in October, but that doesn't mean GE will open October 1 or anything

I have a few questions and I'm hoping they can be answered.

I am like some of y'all - I want to be there on opening day - even though I know how INSANE it will be. That doesn't really bother me.

I have been watching opening day videos on Pandora and Toy Story Land. On Toy Story Land opening day the park was set to open at 8 (according to the website) but they let people in a few min after 6. The same thing happened with Pandora. They let people in before the set open time. Should I expect that to happen with SWGE?

Let's say that DL's will be opening July 1 and they announce it April 15. Would it be safe to say that we will know about DW's opening of SWGE the same time frame? I couldn't remember how much notice was given for TSL and Pandora.

Do we know yet what entrance into the Land that will be open? I believe I saw at least two ways to get into SWGE once you are in the park but I wasn't sure if there had been any idea of what to expect for that on opening day.

How early do the buses normally run (On Disney property)? Will they be running at 5am? Any earlier?

As you can see, I'm VERY excited. I know it's still VERY early and I know some questions I have may not be able to be answered just yet.

all speculation at this point but:
Yes, they will probably open the gates way before official opening time
I'm assuming we will have an opening date for WDW around August
We do not know how they will control flow in or out of SWGE, but I am expecting the main entrance will be by Grand Avenue (next to Muppetvision 3D) they will probably do a one entrance one exit sort of scenario to control crowd flow
I would NOT rely on Disney buses especially if you want to be there extra early (still no clue if Disney will allow overnight sleeping outside the gates as they did with SWW)

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm not naive to the fact that it is still very early. I'm just trying to get an idea of what I might should expect. Do you know if there is a way to set it up to be notified of the opening date announcement? Thanks!!

Set up? No.
There will be plenty of chatter about it though, not only here but on the news, I can see disney announcing it on good morning America.
D23 is mid August so they might announce it then

Possibly at D23 but I wonder if they’ll try earlier with Disneyland opening in June.

I’m guessing there could be a possible DLR SW:GE opening date announcement as early as tomorrow afternoon during the 2/5/19 DIS earnings call...reasoning is that the Pandora opening date 5/27/17 was announced at the DIS earnings call on 2/7/17 - this also included that SW:GE was opening at DLR/WDW in 2019. Other recent example is that DCA Pixar Pier opening on 6/23/18 was announced at D23 Japan on 2/11/18...so a similar pattern to the 4-4.5 month prior WDW announcement-to-opening timing. Worst case is we just get a reiteration of June 2019 for DLR SW:GE that was stated last month...

We are booked for a trip mid Nov that is tied around a Disney Cruise so our dates are locked in.

Asumming we miss the first couple weeks what is the collateral damage to the other parks if we avoid DHS and the craziness that will be Galaxy's Edge. How much will crowds at Epcot increase if SWGE has been open a month?
