EPCOT 2019 International Festival Of The Arts Discussion

We were at the festival for the first two days. We enjoyed a number of dishes. My favorite was Sous Vide Poulet Rouge Chicken Roulade at Pop Eats. The dish was beautiful and the chicken was very flavorful. The Pop’t Art: Modern-design Sugar Cookie with Strawberry Filling at the same booth was unfortunately our least favorite. Even with five of us taking bites (two tweens and two adults), about a third of it was still thrown away. It was just too sweet. However, those same tweens loved the Artist Palette Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookie. I think they enjoyed spreading the “paint” around the cookie and actually ate quite a bit of it even though it was very large.

I did not try it because I do not like lobster, but those around us at Taste Track were raving about the lobster mac and cheese. The trio of churros at that booth were not good though (churros did not taste freshly made and the frosting was very sticky).

My daughter and I did the Ink and Paint workshop on Saturday. We both felt it was not worth our time. Ugh. We both had a hard time following instructions based on the camera angles for the overhead projector. We inked a Mickey Mouse. She said this year future sessions will also sometimes have Minnie Mouse or Goofy I think.

It was very crowded, but we found most of the food lines moved quickly. Some dishes just take a while to make or plate (Sous Vide Poulet Rouge Chicken Roulade for example).... So bring your patience.

Both of our tweens made a scarf which was very fun. A small square scarf was about $29 per “experience”. We found it was worth it. The girls got to make their own and they turned out very different which was really cool. You pick your own colors and then can select a design. Really a fun project and a memorable experience overall.

We also enjoyed stopping by the Tom’s tent. One of the artists made some amazing custom designs of my daughter’s horses. They have lots of fun Disney choices too. The hand painted designs seemed to range from $25 to $70 plus the cost of the shoes (which I think were around 40ish).

We really enjoyed shopping all the artist tents as well. So much fun to see the range of artwork. This was our first time at the Festival. We have also done Garden and FW…. but this one was our favorite overall since it seemed to have a little something for everyone in our group: art, shopping, activities, and FOOD :)

I'm a little late to the thread but I have to say I LOVE your daughter's Toms!! So cute, creative and unique!! I have two myself - both large pony mares. :)

Do we have confirmation that there are no AP wristbands for the concerts this year now that things are going?

Given the up-in-the-airness of flight delays courtesy of the shut down, I made the call to cancel my ADR for the dining package and just wing food that day. I was hoping to not have to line up stupid early for the concert, but I will if i have to.

no wristbands but like pp said you can line up about 20 min to showtime and get a seat. The only time I expect the concert to be busy and maybe even full is when the Jacobs are here

Has anyone been to one of the 11:30 seminars? Just wondering when I can sign up, if Odyssey doesn't open until 11. Do they fill up quickly?

We will be attending the festival this Sunday (100% chance of rain - Boo!) - So what happens during rain? Do all the festival booths close? Or just the artist booths?

Thanks!

They usually shut the booths down because they don't want to run the electronics (cash registers) in the rain. But that is usually if it's raining really hard. If it's a light sprinkle they will probably stay open. We will be at Universal on Sunday and not looking forward to the rain there. Epcot Monday for us.

first of all, early to tell the percentage and remember that when they say 80% chance of rain it means that 80% of the central florida area will likely see rain but it does not mean that it's a whole day thing. That being said it is "predicted" that it will rain most of the afternoon.
Depending on how hard and how windy it rains booths might operate as usual, be partially covered or completely closed.
The food booths will likely stay open, the concert will go on unless the wind is severe or it's thundering

We will be there on Sunday as well. Ew on the rain. We have our dessert party that night :(

Per a cast member at mousegears the MagicBands sold out within an hour on the first day of the festival. We went on the second day and they were gone.

2 questions

If i buy a painting from a vendor, can i have it sent back to my room like other merch?

If i buy a painting will Disney be able to properly pack and ship it to my home?

not 100% sure but I think that if it's an independent vendor (not Disney) the will properly wrap it but you have to take it with you. If it's a Disney booth or from the Art of Disney store they can deliver to room or home
I saw a lot of people carrying big boxes around Epcot the day I went with what looked like art pieces
The other thing is that if you love a piece you can buy it and they will hold it at their booth for you to pick up later in the day

Shame it was such a low number made :(. It was such a nice band I think even people who don’t buy event bands would have bought one. I would have loved one and I normally don’t like the white base bands. I’m not surprised they were gone day 1

We went to the Williams/Zimmer seminar yesterday. It was very good. The speaker could have talked for two more hours. We arrived shortly before 11am for the 11:30am seminar. There were already 40 people in line. The CM indicated numerous times there were only 72 seats. Once they were filled, people we standing all around the perimeter listening. I'm guessing the popularity of the topic would determine how quickly the seating area would fill up. They let us in the seating area by 11:15am or so. They would not let you bring in food, even though there are tables in front of you. I was walking by the Odyssey at 10:15am and it was not open. It definitely opened before 11:00am. Hope this helps.

That’s very helpful! Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m less sure that I’ll be able to squeeze it in though, as I hadn’t planned on getting to the odyssey building until after 11.

I guess the food booths aren’t going anywhere, but I’m not sure how long I want to spend on the seminar. The topic on my day is attraction props, which I think sounds interesting.

First of all, I'd just like to say I feel bad for anyone that had to deal with the rain today. I know all you can do is try to make the best of it, but I'm sure it wasn't fun trying to get around in the rain, especially since it rained all day long.

My husband, a friend and myself spent the day at Epcot yesterday (Saturday) and we had a wonderful time. It was mostly cloudy and a bit chilly, but no rain, so I can't complain about the weather! The park was quite crowded, but we managed to do everything we wanted to do. We even had lunch at the Rose and Crown in the UK without a reservation. We put our name in right at noon when they opened and we were seated within ten minutes.

We had fun painting a few squares on the huge paint-by-numbers mural. We were among the first people to paint on the blank mural, so it was fun to walk by it later in the day and see the almost finished product.

Most of our time was spent walking around the World Showcase. Loved seeing all the various artists and their amazing works. I am a huge fan of Disney artist David Doss and I was excited to finally get to meet him. Seems we're always either at Epcot before or after he's there. I bought one of his prints and he signed it and posed for a picture with me. Very nice guy!

We had a lot of fun watching people posing in the various life-size picture frames. It was particularly amusing watching people pose in the Crossing the Delaware frame in America. Everyone really seemed to get into the spirit of it! Also a lot of fun to watch were the Living Statues in Future World. The performers are very good! We loved watching one statue in particular. He would be very still while people stepped up to have their picture taken standing in front of him. Randomly he would reach out and touch someone on the shoulder or interact in a way they didn't expect. One person posed with his finger pointing toward the statue and the statue reached out and held the person's finger in his hand and wouldn't let go. Pretty funny!

We enjoyed a few of the dessert items. I really liked the Artist Palette Chocolate Chip cookie. It had three colors of frosting on it, and came with a small paint brush so you could "paint" the cookie. Really cute! Also, very large and easily shared with another person or two! My husband loved the Lemon-Blood Orange Tart. So much that he ended up eating a second one before the day was over!

We ended the day with Soarin', then left around 5pm to take our friend to the airport as they had a flight out later that evening.

So much to see and do at the Festival of the Arts! Hope everyone that goes has a marvelous time!

Sounds like an awesome time! We will be there on Tuesday. I’m glad you mentioned the cookie because I wanted to try it but haven’t seen a lot of reviews about it. I think I’ll try to convince Dh to share one with me
