Disney's CORONADO SPRINGS RESORT Information & Questions

Thank you for these details! We will also be moving to AKL after our Coronado stay. Can you share how you got your luggage moved? Did you use bell services or move it yourself? Trying to decide what will be best. We aren't planning a park day on our moving day, so we'd have time just to grab a Lyft or Minnie Van. But wondered if you had any experience with the transfer.
Thanks!

To me the advantage of moving your luggage yourself is being able to move it to your new room when it’s available. We recently moved from CCV to BWV. We drove to Orlando, so we had our car and moved our luggage ourselves. Plan was to check it with Bell Services if our room wasn’t ready and go on to DHS, but as we were driving to BWV we received the text with our room number and were able to have our luggage brought up with us.

Bell Services transfers luggage after 2PM and it may not be available to you until 4 PM or later. If you don’t plan to be in your room until then, it’s fine.

After our experience with bell services, we just didn't trust it so we took a lyft to AKL. It's only about a 5 minute drive and cost us only $5 for a lyft XL. We actually had to walk to the main entrance to catch the Lyft because our lyft driver only spoke Spanish (she literally couldn't communicate in English at all), so even though we tried to direct her to the load and unload area in Casitas 5, she didn't understand what I was saying. I couldn't tell if she was trying to tell me that security wouldn't let her go that far or what. So we ended up taking our luggage to the main entrance outside of the lobby and requesting a different lyft. When requesting a lyft, there is an option to chose which bulding you are located and want to be picked up within the resort.. I just think my first driver didn't understand.

Bell services is also able to transfer your luggage for you, they were just extremely unreliable on our trip on 2 different occasions and we didn't feel comfortable leaving our luggage. YMMV but I figured I'd give that heads up.

We learned the hard way from a similar experience that there is a gate that is restricted to magic band access - you can’t drive around in the resort without access, so your driver couldn’t get to you. That happened to us before and the next time we stayed at CSR we had a car so I could see our folly. Here’s a screen grab of the gate location on the Casitas side. Sometimes when conventions are happening the arm is kept up, but that isn’t always the case.

Oh wow, that makes a lot of sense! We had no clue at all and our driver wasn't able to say anything other than "lobby" so we eventually gave up and made our way to the lobby. This is very useful information though!

Yes! You wouldn’t know unless you drove and then you probably wouldn’t need an Uber! It stunk for us because my husband had hurt his foot and we were out in cabanas in the early days of tower contstruction and couldn’t easily walk to the lobby. It would be nice if they gave you a paper about ride share or something that warned you about the gates! If you take the bus you’d likely never see them or notice them.

Wow thanks for the super quick response! We are staying @ the end ofJuly. Do you think the resorts pools will be able to accommodate the new tower guests?

No problem. The last building came out of inventory for refurb quite a while ago and I stopped watching the refurbishment updates when I knew that all rooms would either be done or out of inventory for booking, meaning any guest checking in would get a refurbed room. I think that was late summer/early fall.

Before all the construction started, there were almost 2000 guest rooms at Coronado. I don’t know exactly how many rooms were in Cabanas 9B, which was torn down, but I would guess it was 75 or fewer because I think it had some business class rooms/suites. The new tower is to have 545 rooms, adding about 25% more capacity to the resort. I’ve used both the quiet pools and the feature pool at Coronado during the summer months and always found a choice of loungers available. The quiet pools had lots and lots of loungers available. So personally, yes, I think the pools will be perfectly able to handle the additional 25% in room capacity added to the resort. If you read back a few pages you will see this discussed a handful of times - it’s definitely a concern that has been voiced but no one really knows the answer. I’m sure there are other opinions I’m not remembering, but there are a lot of convention attendees who stay here and don’t use the resort amenities that a typical vacationer on a family Disney trip might want (for example, a water slide). Personally, I’m not worried.

Is Coronado participating in opting out of cleaning services in the room in exchange for gift card priced according to how many nights for the stay. We did this at Pop during our past trip in September and did not know if CSR is actively doing this as well. We will be there in May and it feels soooo good knowing we are staying at our home resort this go round!

Supposedly they are participating but as of the middle of last month when I was there they certainly were not mentioning it or talking about it at check in. I had two interactions at the front desk and neither person or the supervisor with the iPad that was trying to expedite the long queue said anything about it.

I've been to Coronado six times and admittedly it's all been during shoulder seasons and slow weeks but the Dig Site pool area has never been busy. There might be a little action over at Siestas or at the hot tub but the pool itself and the chairs are usually pretty empty. I wouldn't worry.

I browsed for an answer, but couldn't find a definitive one. Is The Dig Site the same as it was before the refurb? I know it closed and has already reopened, but is it the same? I thought the paintings inside the top of the playground slide were pretty cool.

I'm nervous about my stay because its D2 cheer summit and I've read bad things. We have preferred room so I would thing the cheer would be in standard sections?

Everything is the same. The only change is that they removed a decent amount of the greenery on the pyramid which gives it a much less cluttered look.

Glad to hear it's the same except for the less greenery part.

Oh no we were not informed of it at Pop I had learned of it from other threads here. Nobody at the desk said anything at all, I said at checkin that I wanted to decline service in exchange for the gift card. I got it in my email in about 3 hours.

I always use this site: https://www.orlandoparksnews.com/p/recreational-calendars.html

Thank you so much, I didn't know about that site!

Is there bus transportation from the resort to the boardwalk? Or do we have to catch a bus to a park or Disney Springs and transfer?
