Hi all. My fiancée and I are going to Disney World Tuesday staying at CSR. My second trip (first was CBR) his first. Searching around on Disney’s site with my theme park tickets and DDP I could switch to the Fort Wilderness Cabins for an extra $500 dollars (staying Tuesday through Saturday). CSR I have a standard view room booked. I paid around $2,200.00 if I switched it would be around $2,700. Please let me know what you think. Is it worth it? Is it even possible to switch so close? Thank you so so much.

If its just 2 adults and on the DDP why in the world would you spend $500 more on the space and amenities that you absolutely do not need?
If anything I'd switch to POR but that's just because I'm not a fan of CSR lol.
Just think if you're willing to spend $500 on that you could really splurge on souvenirs or experiences like a dessert party instead.

Idk if you have time, but I love CSR, their food court is great! They have a great bar too! FW is a huge resort and I’m sure the extra space would be fine, but do you need it?

My question is why do you want to? Value is personal, so spending $500 to stay at a resort that my family wants is reasonable, however I wonder why you did not choose it to begin with. PErsonally, I find the cabins remote, however if you like the rustic ambiance, and the feeling of being more secluded it may work for you. You need to consider a golf cart becuase that place is huge.

Thanks so much. I guess when I started looking at resorts I thought the cabins looked really cute so that was in the back of my mind since seeing them, lol.

Thanks so much. I guess when I started looking at resorts I thought the cabins looked really cute so that was in the back of my mind since seeing them, lol.

And they are cute, so look at the resorts as a whole, not just the room or cabin. When we choose a resort we choose based on location and amenities, and budget. Most of our trips have some sort of focus, so if we are parks centric or keeping within a specific budget ( we usually are not all day in the parks) we book a moderate resort. If we can afford a deluxe I will look at what we want to do that trip and book a resort closest to either MK or Epcot, depending on the focus.

So for you, why would you choose either resort? Location? Amenities? Space? You see what I mean? My family woudl prefer CSR over the Cabins because we would find that the campground just is not appealing to us. But you? Would you find returning to the Cabins restful? Do you like the amenities available? Would you want or enjoy the boatride to MK each time?

Resort preferences are personal and very subjective, as is value. As many have pointed out, they would take the $500 and use it towards extras, but would you? Or would you find the value of having your own space the special treat you will enjoy? Go to the the FW thread for some info, and check out videos of each property, and then decide which one will make you happiest.

Would I switch, no. I'm a person who stresses quite a bit over all the choices, but once I book, I feel relieved and don't think about it any more. (That said, I just watched a video tour of a cabin, and wouldn't hesitate to choose it in the first place. It is adorable!!)

I agree with the above advice to consider what you want out of this particular vacation (as it sounds like there will likely be more in your future). For instance:

busy and social = CSR, cozy and romantic = cabin
close to AK and Blizzard Beach = CSR, close to MK and Epcot = cabin
southwestern theme = CSR, natural setting = cabin
stopping in the bar after the parks = CSR, sitting around the campfire after the parks = cabin
and so on...

Thinking of those things, picture your vacation in your mind. If the cabin better fits your vision (and the extra is affordable for you) it can't hurt to call and ask if it's possible. Either way, I think you'll have a great time!

If I were traveling with just my husband, I would happily stay at CSR and, truthfully, wouldn't even consider the cabins. CSR is a lovely resort for walking around, day and night. The rooms are nice....I think the large size (golf carts and internal buses to get to amenities/park transportation?) Of Fort Wilderness would obliterate the benefits of feeling secluded for us.

I'd look at switching to the Poly or Yacht/Beach Club before I'd switch to the Cabins
But I love CSR so I would be fine staying there too

I would stick with CSR. It is a beautiful resort and very relaxing. It didn't feel "busy" at all to us when we were there last month.

If you have an extra $500 to upgrade resorts, I would look to switch to POR or POFQ, WL, AKL, any DVC studio or a garden wing room at CR. As others have said, as a couple you won't need the space of a cabin and you will create some transportation headaches if you stay at Ft. W.

I’ll be the odd one out and says if you like the look of the cabins and really want to stay there, it would probably be worth the $500 to you. I never think extra space is a bad thing, but you have to decide if you’d use the memories you are paying extra for (cooking/eating in your cabin, enjoying the resort grounds, etc.)

I think either resort is a fine choice, it just really depends on which one draws you to it more, you’ll be the happiest at whichever resort excites you the most so I say go for whichever one you feel really excited by.

I love CSR, there's no way I would even consider spending $500 more for a cabin.

This is a great point. We decided on Contemporary for our upcoming trip. I was having second thoughts about switching to FWL. My wife talked sense in to me. It's going to be great no matter what, so we're are not making any changes.

fwiw, if anyone is lookin at this thread with a similar question: i’ve changed resorts at the last minute with no problems, as long as i’m upgrading (switching to a more expensive option).

so in this case, i imagine disney would be happy for the OP to spend an extra 500$ on a resort. i know she said she’s sticking with CSR, i just thought the info might help someone else. is it possible to switch to a less expensive option at this point? my guess is no, but i’ve never tried.
