IPhones

One of the focuses of iOS 12 was to better performance on older supported devices. Any claims that Apple specifically targets older devices with poor software is false. Always keep your iOS device on the latest release for security purposes.
I don’t have enough storage to update. I’ve deleted so many apps already. AND I don’t have enough store to do a backup either.

Updates made through iTunes require no free space on the device.

Backups through iTunes require no iCloud storage.

If you have run out of iCloud storage and that is your backup mechanism, you should look at buying more iCloud storage or start backing up via iTunes. 50G is only $.99 a month. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201238

I would be horrified if I knew my phone was not properly backed up.

I just uprgraded my 6 to an 8 just before Christmas. The 8 seems no different from the 6 for the most part.

I have the extra ICloud storage. I tried updating through I Tunes the other day and it told me I need X amount of storage on my phone to do it. And I had read doing the update through I Tunes required no extra storage space. So not sure what’s up

Seems you've quoted the wrong post. My phone never had a battery issue, I never had it replaced or attempted to have it replaced, nor did I have damage or a cracked screen.

Mea culpa. I was trying to give a general response to the OP's question. I think I just randomly clicked on the first reply I saw.

I upgraded from a 5S to a XR the Phone is too heavy.
I never went online with my 5R, just used it as a phone.
I need my reading glasses to see anything.
The XR is a small IPad phone.
I bought mine for $599 fro My carrier U.S.cellular.
I am on my villages Facebook group and many complain about picking up the signal for data,
They say the phone is useless for going online and sending text message.
I do not have a problem. But I mainly use my phone for actual, phone calls.

I had the same problem with my 5s a few years ago. I deleted hundreds of pictures and videos, apps, music, and was still told I didn't have enough storage. I ended up getting a new one with twice as much memory.

DD16 and I each got a 6s a few months apart. Hers started dying about a year ago. It wouldn't hold a charge. Mine was having no issues. We decided for her 16th bday that was her big gift, a new iPhone. I don't know which one we ended up getting, I just know she loves the camera and it has the facial recognition. I can't figure it out at all lol. The day after she got her new phone, my phone started crapping out. I have to leave it on the charger most of the time now. Coincidence?! Ugh.

I recently converted from a 6 to a XR. The main issue with my 6 was the battery life. The XR has the best battery of the iPhones (even better than the XS) - I can go a couple of days without charging and only need to head to a charger when it’s below 5%. The XR also has a much better camera than the 6, including Portrait mode (which doesn’t come with the standard size iPhone 8). It doesn’t have a home button, but I haven’t found it an issue at all adapting, whereas my sister still finds her 8 home button (which doesn’t ‘click’) annoying over a year later. It is a bit bigger than the 6, but not as big as the plus models. I’ve found it a comfortable size and I have fairly small hands.

My 2 daughters were having trouble with the 6 losing battery life quickly. We went to Apple store and they said it is just from usage. We don’t agree, we think there is something wrong with the 6. But we did order a 7 for the one daughter under insurance so that cost $112 instead of putting in a new battery. My daughter had the 6 brand new for just 18 months. The battery should have lasted longer.

I bought my 6 when they were brand new. I really can't complain that the battery is done at this point

I upgraded from a 6S to an XR just after New Years and while I've adapted to the missing home button I'm still working on the size - it makes my hands hurt using it for a long time and I have fairly large hands (for a woman anyway) I do absolutely love the cameras in it though.

ETA It's also SOOOOOOO slippery! Places I've been putting my 6S for years now result in my phone tumbling to the floor (or into the tub) until I finally got a case on it.
