Success with Touring Plans requesting rooms?

Very helpful info, everyone - thank you! I’ve heard to send requests 1-2 weeks ahead, so we will give it a shot!
It's 5 (approx) days out. However, you have no control over when TP sends/submits your request. You fill it out, the rest is done automatically.

No luck 0/2
At CR needed room with 2 beds as we booked - gave us king bed for me at my 20 year old son! CM moved us to 2 queen room.

At Poly CL requested 1 or 3 not connecting. Had second floor connecting (we were GV). Asked CM if just non connecting available- she put is in non-connecting lagoon view at end of hall.

As another poster mentioned, the more room options and information you provide the higher the likelihood that you will consider the room request a success.

We try to tell the assigner what is most important to us ranked in order (last trip it was a refurbished room at CSR close to the main pool and a bus stop) and then we requested a specific building along with our second and third choice buildings. We ended up with our first choice building on the end closest to the pool. The room was on the opposite side of the building as the room range provided by the touring plans fax but we still felt our room request was a success because it met the two requests we listed as being the most important to us. Best of luck in your request, I hope it works out for you:)

I always use this tool from Touring Plans. I have been given the exact room I'd requested twice at the Beach Club and on a third occasion I had a reservation for standard view at the Beach Club again and was upgraded to Club Level with the same view/direction I had requested in the fax. I always specify the exact room number, but explain why I want that specific room. I had requests fully ignored by the Yacht Club and the Contemporary, so maybe the resort makes a difference.

We’ve used Touring Plans fax service five times now with great results. I do select a room from the resort map as a reference point, but also explain primary and secondary main features we would like (e.g. building, balcony, floor, view, etc.) in the typed comments section.

Our Results:

Received the exact room we requested: 2 times, Polynesian and AKL

Received the room next door to the room we requested: 1 time at BWI

Received a room outside the requested room range, but fulfilling all our *written* requests perfectly: 1 time at GF (upper floor open balcony, monorail view).

Received a room outside the requested range, written request (balcony) not fulfilled: 1 time at Polynesian Club Level. This was the only time I also made a request through online check-in (balcony or patio), and we received a room with a patio. The check-in CM mentioned our balcony or patio request when giving us our room number, so they definitely looked at the online request that time. We ended up loving the patio even more than the balcony we thought we wanted, and couldn’t have been happier with our room. :)

Edited to add: I forgot we also used it once at the Yacht Club, where they fulfilled our secondary written request for a balcony, but missed our primary written request for a bathtub for my son with special needs who cannot use a shower. When I spoke with the room assigner to get us moved, she apologized and said that they could see the bathtub request, but simply screwed up. She moved us quickly to a super convenient room room with a tub and close to the lobby, so all was well!

It's the request itself that determines your odds of getting the room you want, not the method you use to make the request. If there are a lot of rooms at the resort that would satisfy your request, your chances are much better than if there are only a few rooms that meet your criteria.

This is THE most important point. :thumbsup2

I am now 4 and 1/2 for 5 successful room requests using Touring Plans. Four times the exact room, once a room three doors down.

Did it once, last March and got what I wanted. It was at BWV in P/G view studio. I requested the village green/sideways view of BW area and got it.

Have 2nd one in for my trip in 3 days at BLT. Will post back to say if it was a success.

Have great success with the ADR finder on TP. Love that thing!!

We've used it twice and both times we got pretty much the opposite of what we requested. The first time we kept the room we got and ended up being very happy with it. The second time, we got the room assignment before we even boarded out plane. DH called and we were able to switch to the room next to the specific one I wanted.

just subscribed to tp but cannot find where to fill out the room request?

Go to your dashboard and add your trip info. There's a spot when you click on your specific trip and it'll say "Request Room". It's actually a really cool feature because you can see views from the room, etc.

Apologies for the semi-hijack, but does the room request have to be made by the lead on the reservation? My sister is the lead on our upcoming stay. I am listed on the reservation.

We used this for the first time last trip in Dec. 2016. We requested a specific room number and we received the exact room number we requested.

We will try it again this December. We're going to request the same room again. We've actually stayed in that exact room twice and hoping for 3 times.

No. They just have to know the reservation details to fill out the request form

I had a request put it for our last trip. They saw there was a request put it and that wasn't available yet, so it seemed liked they were trying to honor that as best they could, but we got there very early and I just wanted a room that was ready so we could freshen up and regroup before heading to a park. So we got a room one building over.

Very noteworthy distinction. DVC requests are very different animals from regular resort room requests. While I have very limited personal experience with DVC and what I have is always when booking right from Disney I do understand that DVC doesn't accept faxes in the same way that the regular Resort rooms division (forgive me for not remembering the correct name) does. Especially when you are talking about rooms booked on points.

Interesting... we are DVC and have used TP room request twice and have gotten almost exactly what we requested!

We have been 50/50 in terms of success with our room requests using TP.
