We are going to Disneyland for our first time in August. We will be staying in an AirBnB. What are your favorite off property restaurants?

Thanks,
Stacy

We're visiting Disneyland for our first time in September. One of the places we will be going to is McCormick and Schmick. We've eaten there in both Boston and Manhattan (twice) and enjoyed all of those meals very much. Their Chocolate Bag dessert is one of the best desserts we've ever had.

I'm very interested to read other responses to your thread!

That's a tough one. There are so many mediocre places to eat nearby ;)
Outside the parks, Mimi's is a nice family style place with good food. Tortilla Joe's is OK for Mexican food.

There's an awful lot of "good" but not "great" food in the entire resort area.

AVOID Captain Kidds Buffet and cockroach emporium at all costs!

Anaheim is not known for great food in my experience. A couple of good Mexican places but they are in run down strip malls. Fullerton, just 10 minutes north up Harbor Blvd, has some really great options. Really good food there. And Garden Grove has some great Vietnamese food.

There are so many great places to eat in DTD I never understood the desire to find places "off property" other than purely budgetary reasons.

There are some of the Mega Chains down on Katella, but most everything else is "meh" in the surrounding area IMO.

We have found the prices of food in DL, DCA and DTD to be comparable to food prices when we eat out at home, so, we choose to eat at DL. The plus is we do not have to leave the "Disney Bubble" and the majority of time, we can pay with a Disney gift card!. I would suggest checking out the menus, and check out the threads for pics of food. There are a few regular posters who take great food pics that show the amount of food for the dish.

Yes, agree with above.... we stay at DLR for meals. Plenty of choices and the prices are comparable. Just do not want to take the time away from DLR when there is no real advantage.

Well, here is something I can definitely give suggestions on as a local:

Pizza Press for quick service

Down the road a bit, Lee's Sandwiches also quick service

Go down Harbor to the Packing House, can't really go wrong with any of the restaurants there

Must do Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles at least once

Sabroso Mexican Grill

Bronx Sandwich - Quick service and they are a small chain, but absolutely delicious and very large portions, can't recommend highly enough

Fire + Ice at Garden walk

KooKoo Grill

Tony's Original Deli & Bottle Shop (Be sure to see if they are on Groupon, they often are)

Senior Big Ed's - A short drive away, but delicious Mexican and Puerto Rican food

Dalton's Cafe - almost everything is made from scratch

Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney

There are many, many more, but these are all places I personally like to go and have food that I would say goes far beyond mediocre as a pp put it.

As for prices, if you aren't planning on going into the parks on a particular day, these cam be worthwhile, but if you are in the parks, it really isn't worth leaving just to go eat, there is plenty of great food in the parks to be had and you might save $3 per person by leaving.

For both posters: Can you give us some more details on what kind of restaurants you're interested in? Type of food? Any kids in your party? Any food allergies or other restrictions? Vegetarians? Vegans? Budget? Etc.? Will you have cars or use Uber/Lyft?
Southern California has TONS of restaurants of all varieties, ethnicities, budget options, etc. Having some idea of what you're looking for will help us tailor the recommendations to suit you!

One easy place to start is the Anaheim Packing District. This is like a fancy food court in a renovated citrus packing building. Lots of different kinds of food, live music, great energy.

I agree we visited the Anaheim packing district and had some great food in a really chilled out place.

My favorite restaurants to go to when in Orange County:

Gyu Kaku (Japanese BBQ) in Tustin
BCD Tofu House (Korean soft tofu soup) in Irvine
A & J Restaurant (Tawainese) in Irvine *cash only

Haven't been to the one down there, but we also like Din Tai Fung (soup dumplings and other dumplings)

None are walking distance to Disneyland, but we go to Irvine a lot to visit family on Disney trips. We always go to the top two in NYC as well, since they are chains (I think A&J is, too, actually). Don't know about walking distance restaurants--we tend to eat some meals at Disneyland and cook the rest in our room (DVC).

We are staying in the Anaheim area for a week but not doing Disneyland all week. I figured I would ask for suggestions.

We are open to all food. We have 2 boys that are age 13 and 10 and love trying new food. We will have a car. We will be in the Anaheim/Garden Grove area for over a week. 3 days will be at Disneyland. We figured we wanted to eat at some of the local places. We had the Packing House as one of our spots to hit.

Garden Grove has awesome Korean BBQ. It's almost as good as koreatown without the drive. If your kids are big eaters, one of the all you can eat korean bbq buffets is a lot of fun.

We also really like Fa Sai Thai or Thai Nakorn for Thai food, though it's been awhile since we've gone. We'll usually get takeout and be the envy of other hotel guests. :-)

Another recommendation for Thai Nakorn. One of our favorites. Also, look into a visit to Westminster (not too far from the parks) -- Little Saigon is famous for wonderful Vietnamese food. Little Gaza is an area near the parks -- great restaurants there, too.

Hapa Cupcakes and the Burger Palar. Both 10 minutes up Harbor Blvd from Anaheim in Fullerton, CA. They both are fantastic and worth the drive. In the downtown college area with free parking. The trip is especially worth it for Hapa Cupcakes. They are amazing. Fullerton also has a number of great microbreweries and fantasic Korean Barbecue place. Check out yelp.com for their reviews. Really good food there. Worth the drive or uber.

Is Thai Nakorn far from Disney? We love good Thai!
