DCP as a science major???

Hey everyone! I'm very interested in doing the DCP, but I'm a science major- pre-med, to be exact. Anyone who's a science major knows how demanding it is, and how little room in your schedule you have for anything else. And most classes you need to take are not offered online. I want to do the DCP more than anything, but it's not looking very likely at the moment. I want to know if anyone here has done the DCP as a science major, and how they made it work with their schedule, and if it put them behind their academic/science career in any way. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a science major, but nonetheless I say you don't have to be on the DCP while you're in school. You can apply while you're in school then do it once you've graduated so maybe consider a gap year before going to medical school and do it then. Generally most do the DCP after they've graduated. They've also extended it so that you can apply up to a year after you've graduated from college. I also know from experience you definitely do not want to be taking classes while on the DCP, it will be a MISERABLE experience for you especially if you're pre-med (my sister is too so I know y'all barely have time to have a life already). Apply for it your last semester of college and do it then as a gap year. It's a great experience for getting acclimated to the real world from the college world so I think it would be a good transitional and learning period before medical school. My personal take, but those are my thoughts for you.

That sounds like probably the best course of action. Thank you :)

I would just be careful of doing it in your gap year. I applied for last cycle and spent a lot of time this year traveling for interviews. Interview season conveniently lasts from August to March so you never know when you'll need to be gone (I live in MA and got an interview for 3 days later at UCLA in the middle of the week.) Not sure how flexible they are with short notice days off but be aware that you'll be interviewing during your gap year.
