Gulf State Park DIS Meet 2019 (Episode 4)

I am saying this right now:

If another hurricane shows I AIN'T LEAVING! Unless forced to by the park.

We'll probably have guests staying with us on the first weekend. Friends of mine from high school. They actually stayed weekend with us there 2 years ago.

Won't be bringing the Holland Grill with me this year. Gotta come up with new plan to transport it. Probably end up buying a cargo rack to put on the back in the receiver hitch but I'm planning on getting a bike rack to put there. Our check in is technically on the 23rd, but likely coming in on the 24th. If youngest DD does not have to be in school on that Friday (2nd grade, so really no testing to be done) we will come on down on that Thursday the 23rd when she gets out of school and avoid the crazy Friday traffic. It's actually sounding good that this may very well be the case.

I was just telling Donna that in 5 weeks, we'll be on the beach!

Do you think that was your overheating problem last year?

j

Could of been that massive heavy load it was pulling. I mean, it's only a Volvo semi.

Yes that would seem to have caused our overheating issue. The thing that made it hard to find is as the pressure built the leak got worse, and it would spray out the hole, get sucked up by the fan and thrown all over the inside of the hood. So it made it difficult to trace.
Gonna hook up today, now that I am done with work for the day. See how the new pinbox works in our setup.

We are going to do our best to still come. Wife's surgery is May 13. She won't be able to help me setup the campsite by then but we're hoping she'll feel good enough to at least be there.

@bama_ed , thanks for the prayers. She certainly needs them!

Thanks for the update. Don't worry about setting up camp. You only need the basics and there will be plenty of us around to help with that, if you need. Hopefully 10 days of recovery is enough to feel like a few days at the beach.

There will be plenty of us to help setup camp for anyone. Hope she is feeling better and at least ready to travel for the trip.

PaHunter/Chris is correct: we can get a posse together to help you set up and we can let DW supervise. :cool1:

Oh and BTW, Chris, hope the new radiator fixes the problem you had and you can get down to Gulf nice and easy (and then back home too).

I was in Dallas last week and now I am getting killed by some deadlines this week but I am SO looking forward to getting to Gulf next month and settling in for several days of good weather, puzzles, naps, dining, and fellowship.

Still debating about pulling a "garneska" and hotspotting working from Gulf for some portion of the 3-days I am scheduled for via work (I can explain when I see ya'll what it's about). Not worried about blowing through the data limits on the plan all things being equal (it's only money - HA!) just the quality of the connection. I might try it from home here to see if it works (assuming home cellular coverage similar to GSP coverage). :surfweb:

Bama Ed

PS - been hacking away at the DIS Rendevouz in October 2020. Some contacts think it's too early to consider but they don't know ya'll.......

We're talking resi's in October. The month that books up 18+ months ahead of time. It's never too soon.

Bama Ed, we believe the new radiator will fix the problem, our first camping trip will test it out for sure. First part of that trip is the same as our route to GSP.

Whew, I am also looking forward to a relaxing time down there. Thankfully there was no mention of banana bread.....

And yes we are planning for 2020, gonna be a busy year, most likely getting AP's on our next trip to WDW. Then maybe throw in a quick get away at some point, really make it worth it.

This year I plan to get more sit around and rest time. Hopefully be able to spend more time exploring the park and avoiding the busy cities. Madison is NOT a shopper, so this should be easy. I might even get some naps in the hammock this year!

Her only request is the usual Scoops for ice cream. I plan on staying around the campground for the weekend when it is so crazy crowded, then venture out some after that.

Was talking with Randy earlier and Patrick about some possible menu items for some of the nights. We had discussed some of the things we've tried in the past that worked out pretty good. Shrimp, Crawfish, ribs, chicken, burgers and hotdogs. I do have one request for a fellow Diser, Jim, brother, I can't remember the exact name for it, but one night when we were camping on Sumac you made up some kind of ravioli. If it is on the consideration for a side item, I'd like another go at it!

I do have some elk steak left from hunting season, you can grill it and do several things with it including bacon wraps or fajitas.

Getting closer...

Toasted Ravioli!

It's definitely a St Louis thing. They were actually invented less than a mile from where I work, an area called "The Hill". It has some of the top authentic Italian restaurants in the country.

I'll bring a few boxes (you can buy all kinds at our local grocery stores) and my deep fryer.

When I was in my early 20's I worked for Olive Garden for a summer. For a while, I was the 'cashier' in the back (servers brought payment to me and I processed). I was 3 feet away from the breadstick drawer and about 6 feet from the app window where I could get their toasted ravioli! Loved both - but boy was that an unhealthy summer!

Since I'm not packing a grill this year I might focus more on some desserts instead of main items. I know we won't be group eating a lot of nights as folks will want to venture out and sample some of the local restaurants as well.

Breadsticks and ravioli, man that is a great meal!

Michael if all goes as planned I will have a new pellet grill with me this time and you are welcome to use it or help me plan on how to use it. From what I hear you can do almost anything with it. I'm definitely looking at smoking some things as well as grilling. On a different subject to give everyone a laugh. I pulled a real dummy move. We took Emma and the 2 year old grand son to the Disney water parks this past week. I scan my band to get in and guess what. No luck. They send me to the ticket window to find out the problem. It turns out I accidently let my Platinum Plus pass expire in December and Disney didn't notify me and I didn't notice they stopped taking payment from my credit card. Now I have to decide what to do before our annual Halloween trip. Mainly I hate that I lost me renewal discount.

No worries, we pack a grill and also have our Blackstone Griddle. So we will be good. Not sure what DW has on the menu yet, one camping trip at a time.
