"Soft kitty, warm kitty" - Anyone else sad about TBBT ending?

I'm sad it's ending, and I don't know what to expect- but I totally like the idea of the elevator being fixed!

Side note: I have always referred to living with DH as like living with Sheldon. DH has undergrad degrees in physics and chemistry, and a PhD in biophysics. He knows who all the scientists are that are mentioned on the show, what they did, who won which prizes, what the theories are that are mentioned, etc. We had a surprise the other day. DH is lead scientist (it was his idea, he developed it, etc) on a patent for a filtration system. NASA is interested and wants a test system to handle waste water treatment on the Mars mission (edited- thought it was ISS). So I was wrong; DH isn't Sheldon, he's Howard Wolowitz!!! :rotfl2:
(I'm actually pretty proud of him!)

I have not watched since the season where Howard and Bernadette got married - just fell off my radar. Can any catch me up real quick and let me know when the finale is?

I know there is a baby or two for the Wolowitz's...

No. I used to watch this show because "geeks', but in reality the geeks are the brunt of the humor. It took me 2 1/2 seasons to call it quits. It's all stereotypes. Sheldon's obvious Asperger's is played for laughs.

I'm glad it's gone.
All sorts of ‘types’ have been assigned to Sheldon by the audience for years. There was even a thread here a few years back when Amy and Sheldon became a couple where someone was quite upset because “Sheldon is obviously A-Sexual.” I think the purpose of Sheldon’s character has always been that’s it’s okay to be different or quirky without needing a label. There’s no need for an explanation for his brilliance or his behavior, he’s just Sheldon. I’ve always thought it was a brilliant move.

I don’t think there will be some big ending. My money is on the elevator getting fixed.

But then these differences become the brunt of a good portion of the jokes in the show. Just like Howard is a pervert, Raj is a closeted gay man, Leonard is physically weak, Bernadette is a harpy, Penny is a dumb drunk, Stewart is pathetic and lonely, etc...

It’s a sitcom. Sitcoms are exaggerated for laughs and full of stereotypes. The show has also shown tremendous growth for every character. Penny actually is smart. Bernadette can be vulnerable. Howard grew up and takes care of his kids. Leonard has learned to stand up for himself. Raj has learned to stand on his own two feet. Sheldon has learned to live with giving up a little control. Stewart has a steady girlfriend.

I’m not trying to change your mind about the show. I had to stop watching Everybody Love Raymond because I couldn’t stand Deborah always calling Ray an idiot and hitting him. We all have our lines. I just think trying to put Sheldon in a box goes against the spirit of the character.

I am being totally serious... I had no idea it was still on. It was once a show that was must see TV, but I think we may have just missed the past several years without noticing.
I see it at the gym or on a plane, just assumed it was syndicated re-runs. It jumped the shark for me.

Good news if you are sad, you'll be able to watch it forever. It's not like the "old days" where a show really did just go away, until we got TBS reruns, box sets, netflix, etc... lol. You know, the dark ages. ;-)

See, yeah, this is actually probably my problem. I haven't really watched a sitcom since the mid 90's. I guess I just saw through the tropes this time. Then again, dramas have their own tropes, too.

BBT fan here too, but not sad to see it finish. I agree with the sentiment of many others that it’s time.

I love the idea of the elevator finally getting fixed!
Seriously hope Penny doesn’t end up pregnant. But would be happy if Amy does, since she and Sheldon have talked about having kids since before they were even boyfriend/girlfriend.

I sometimes watch a rerun but I don't know when I started feeling this show stopped being funny and the characters were somewhat unlikeable.

We will miss this show, as we have enjoyed it for at least 10 of its 12 years!

Part of me will miss it, but I haven't kept up like I used to (I'm a couple weeks behind in the DVR) and I agree it's probably time. The decision to never show the kids kind of crossed the "relatable" line for me.

I do like the elevator being fixed! And I'll be happy if they leave things open for a follow-up show later on.

:confused3 I miss it actually being a good show more than I’ll be sad when it ends. It really has been terrible the last 3 seasons. :goodvibes Good memories of the early years though - I may choose to not sully them by watching the remaining episodes I’ve got on my DVR and just haven’t bothered with.

I used to really like the show, now I just watch it to see what happens. It's becoming annoying how Penny doesn't really seem to be in love with Leonard (yeah I know it's a show but still), plus it's even more annoying how they keep not letting Raj have a happy ending. I really didn't enjoy last night's episode. Only one more episode though!
