Royal Caribbean Coco Cay Has stepped up

I'm really not sure how all the concessions stands, the paved walkways, the golf carts and even Pelican Plunge truly count as "unspoiled," but okay.

Castaway Cay, like all of Disney, is an artificial construct of what people wish "unspoiled" was like, right down to ready availability of flush toilets and ice cream. In actuality, unspoiled is a lot more like the BWCA, where mosquitos are a key part of the experience, ice cream melts in your canoe, and toilets don't flush.

RCCL is assembling Coco Cay as a bit more of a luxe island resort, rather than a faux unspoiled island. And that's okay.

Yeah. I don't see Castaway Cay as "natural" and "unspoiled" either. There is a dock, an area with shipping containers (that you can see very well from the ship)... Everything is decorated and put in specific place for a reason. Old planes on the bike path (which is definitely not a natural path). Statues of Mickey in the snorkling area...

They aren't towering over the nature and staring my kid in the face. The unspoiled nature of CC is wonderful. A huge waterpark in the middle would be awful. My kid being bummed about not being able to go there since she can see it would be bad too. Two pronged problem.
U don't have to tell ur kid no, just don't sail RCL, when the kid walks by Tiffany's on DCL can u say no? does the kid get every thing they want in the other shops? or the ice cream that is payed for separately? how about the cabanas, tubes, jet skis etc on cc?
but if RCL is cheaper overall then DCL, maybe could pay the extra for the water park.

I'm honestly not sure why this post was ever started on a DCL forum. My child does not ask for Tiffany's jewelry or jet skis and knows that cabanas are out of our price range. I have no intention of switching to RCL but those of you who seem to be such fans could perhaps switch to those forums on cruise critic instead of bringing their news here were it really doesn't belong.

Now, I've said my final word on this matter and will stick to the DCL centered posts. Have fun sailing RCL.

The mods have already stated these types of threads are not a problem. As far as I know, YOU don't get to decide what does and doesn't belong. If these threads bother you so much, why take the time to post on them. As folks have said on many threads like this, if it doesn't interest you scroll on by. You are not being forced to open and participate in every thread on this board. :sad2:

Because forums are made to discuss.

There will be things that RCCL or Norwegian or Carnival do better than Disney and some other things Disney will do better.

Cruise lines compete between each other and it's normal for fans (of cruising) to discuss those things and compare.

People are allowed to enjoy other cruise lines as much as DCL and be vocal about it too. It's vacations, not a cult.

I was just looking at pricing for RCCL 3 and 4 nt sailings and was surprised how expensive they were. Might be the ships doing those itineraries are newer than they used to be and/or the new Coco Cay.

We are sailing on the refurbished Navigator of the Seas for Thanksgiving this year. Looking forward to our stop at Coco Cay! We are not planning on paying extra for the waterpark/cabanas, but my kids will enjoy themselves regardless. We will take advantage of the new slides on the ship instead! Thanks for the pictures, OP!

These are great pictures! Thank you for sharing, OP.

We’re sailing with Royal Caribbean for the first time next March. I specifically chose a sailing that would stop at CocoCay. I’m looking forward to March 2020 even more now!

I will be there in about a week! Any of yous try the nature trail? It looks gorgeous.

if you have the time, could you take pics of the food venues, menus if there are any, and give us your opinion? i do not like grilled food, so i'm wondering if its a salad kind of day, or if i need to have a good breakfast before heading out. have a great time!!

Absolutely! I wondering the same thing. I like grilled and bbq food, but am no good in heat.

This looks awesome! Taking my first RCL cruise the week of Christmas this year and looking forward to checking out their private island. DS15 and DS6 will go crazy with the water park! Thank You for sharing the pictures!

Thanks for sharing these pictures OP! Looks amazing!!

I wish our Allure cruise stopped here in April. Well, guess I'll have to book another cruise and try it out!!

Perhaps they have a dedicated kitchen on the island as opposed to having to take everything off the ship? Not that I'm complaining about that.

I WILL complain about the video taking. I'm very much a landscape video person.
