Will food delivery prompt some dine-in restaurants to drop dine-in?

It's not that they prioritize them - the problem is they now can take orders waaaay faster than they can fill them. Something has drastically changed at McDonald's since the advent of the touch-screens. Even the drive-thru now requires you to pull over and wait for your order about 50% of the time. Remember the days of walking up to the counter, ordering, paying and standing there until they handed you your food? Those transactions completed in 3 minutes or less because that was their service target. They don't seem to have one anymore. :sad2:

I haven't noticed that at the McDonald's around here, but I don't live/work in terribly busy areas. Even during the lunch rush I'm in and out in 5 minutes.

No. Tim Horton’s for sure custom-roasts their own. The two brews are as different as night and day. Tim Horton’s is dark and earthy; McDonald’s is much brighter and more acidic.

There ya go, word was that they dropped theirs and McD's picked it up. For me, I can't stand the smell of coffee so never tried it. So it's one diet coke each morning, and Tim Hortons sells pepsi products. So for me it's a bottle of water there.

Yuck - I’m sure I’d even hate their water. :crazy2: I literally cannot deal with anything from Tim Horton’s.

UGH. I hope not.

I'm not a fan of take out or delivery. I like my food to be served HOT. If I'm getting take out or delivery, the food is lukewarm and soggy by the time I get it home. The only foods that are okay to go in my opinion are Pizza, Chinese and sandwiches.

To be honest, the Uber Eats etc delivery folks I see come in to restaurants to pick up food would make me a little leering of eating what they had delivered.

Say what? You intentionally move on top of a restaurant/bar, then complain about the noise? Someone didn't do their homework - their problem!!
Sort of like the folks that move in next to the airport and complain about the noise. That is a big issue here now. Our airport was built in the sticks in 1967, and now people buying houses that are being built there are complaining about the noise. In most cases, the airport not only was there first, but it was there before these people were BORN!

:crazy2: Ugh...it's dog food. :love:Loves me some Dunkin' coffee when I'm down your way though and Randy's Donuts? Wow, just wow! :worship:

I think McDonalds uses the coffee brand the Tims used to use. Tim Horton switched brands.

Maybe, I haven't been to a Tim Horton's since 2015.

I buy both McCafe and Tim Horton's K-cups occasionally and they're definitely different.

Our local Pizza Hit restaurant closed last year. They opened a delivery/carryout only spot down the road.

I live in an area with an abundance of amazing restaurants of all kinds. They are packed all week. Delivery would not hurt them at all - there are always people that prefer to dine out. Neither Uber Eats or Door Dash delivers to my zip code, and only 2 restaurants with GrubHub. As someone who has a broken leg and is struggling to get around, I would love for more delivery options than the standard chinese and pizza delivery that I have. Getting bit sick of whatever it is my husband tries to cobble together for dinner, LOL.

I guess like everything it really depends on where you live. The majority of our meals are carry out and we can get them from kitchen to our table in under 10 minutes. Even things like salmon and steaks have been warm and still taste fantastic. Two of our favorite lunch places have just converted to carry out/delivery between 10:30-2:30. They’re really good lunch entrees (fancy for lunch) and the volume of carryout and delivery to people who work in the area is insane. There’s a line of drivers and carryout by the side door. Instead of servers, they’ve hired a bunch of cooks and the host now takes call in orders. It seems to be a great model-they’re selling food at the same cost to 2 or 3x the customers without having to spend 30-45 minutes waiting on them. For customers the cost is about the same since tip usually offset the delivery cost and tip (and for carry out it’s cheaper).

For us and the amount of time we eat something we haven’t cooked ourselves, carry out and delivery saves a lot of time, some of the cost, and is more flexible with kids (it would be nuts for to take the kids to a sit down restaurant 5 days a week). I think as demand grows, restaurants will continue to adapt (and I remember when our neighborhood Pizza Hut closed their dining room in the 80s and everyone said they’d be out of business)

I suppose that may vary from city to city. I've only noticed them a couple of times and from a quick glance they seemed just fine.

The restaurants have expanded their base to include folks who like delivery. I think it's a good business decision.
Not everyone would choose this. I am thinking folks who are caregivers, or have small kids, a super busy schedule, or other reasons that might not make dining out on a particular day easy. It's probably nice for them to be able to call and order.

Good point. I remember how excited I was when Apple's launched Carside to Go. It opened up the To Go options to include more than pizza, fast food drive thrus, or Jimmy Johns.

Funny story: I don't use these services, but on several occasions now I've gone out for lunch during a workday and seen them doing pickups at fast-food restaurants. The area where I work is right on the edge of one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in town, and that affects who does lunchtime deliveries around here. I kid you not: most of the time they are women in their late '30s driving higher-end SUVs with carseats in the back, and wearing head-to-toe Lulu. It looks like the SAHMs from the wealthy neighborhood are using DoorDash gigs to cover their Starbucks habits. I suspect that most of them wouldn't be caught dead eating fast food.

Sort of like Uber and Lyft. However, I don't thing the cars the DoorDash/ UBEREATS folks I've seen would meet UBER/LYFT standards. Most seem to be barely running.

Oh Red...this is Canada...one does not get one's citizenship revoked. If full-on treason won't do it, I think I'm fine with my taste in sports and hot beverages. ;)
