Student Records Teacher Making Abusive Remarks

I guess everyone should be thankful that he (formerly) teaches in Minnesota instead Florida.

If he wasn’t dead, I’d swear that was my elementary school music teacher. He let us know we were dirt under his feet.

It's funny how those memories never leave us, isn't it? I remember so many teachers that screamed and said so many horrible things. Some that threw desks. Some that kicked chairs. And, like you, two of the biggest offenders were music teachers. Like totally unhinged- off the charts- horrible people. To the point if I ever saw them now as an adult, I would tell them what I truly think of how they treated children.

But to balance it, I had a music teacher that was the most amazing human being, as well as so many amazing teachers. But the bad ones stick in your brain as you grow older. I often wonder how they live with themselves.

I see a lot of people online posting about this abusive teacher, saying things like "Kids these days have no idea. All of our teachers acted like that back in the day and we turned out fine."

But, if you think abuse of any kind is "fine", you didn't turn out ok. If you think a child is a "snowflake" if they "can't handle" an adult making fun of their body, you don't know right from wrong.

I wonder why this guy’s horrible actions hadn’t come to light sooner. I agree with everyone that has said there’s no way this was isolated. Weren’t parents being made aware by their kids and if so, were they not engaging either the guy himself or the school administration?

I was never “that parent” who went to war over every little thing my child complained about at school but I did keep my eyes open and ear to the ground. No way would I have ignored my child being subject to this abuse. Maybe I’m missing part of the story?

Maybe they had.

There was one child who complained months ago and the vice principal observed the teacher and claimed he was a "great teacher". Maybe kids and parents have been complaining and being ignored for years.

Maybe the kids weren't saying anything to their parents.
Who knows, it is probably a combination of many things.

Do we know if this was a pattern, or did the guy just lose it one day? I'm missing that info, but I'm sure it's around somewhere. I can see people defending him more if he just snapped. The work teachers have to do, the balancing act with over entitled parents/students, the low pay, etc. could take its toll. If it was a regular occurence and the dude just got caught, well, *not so nice words* hopefully he's never around children again.

In addition to the reasons given by PPs, a lot of times kids don’t have the vocabulary to accurately describe what’s going on. They don’t come home and tell their parents “Mr. Jerkface has been verbally abusing the class for months. For example, he said [direct quote] and [direct quote].” Instead, they say things like “he’s mean” and “he’s always yelling” which adults will often brush aside with comments like “Well, I’d yell too if I had to deal with a class full of kids.”

you must be a really bored housewife to bully people for having an opinion.
but you cant help for being raised that way so I forgive you honey, have a nice life.
and my god be with your kids.

You kinda started that one, dude. Snowflake meet kettle.

Also, don't suggest that a poster's parents or parenting isn't up to snuff. Seriously. We're discussing a kid being bullied and you go there. Yuck.
