Disney alone as a minor?

That's so much closer to actual summer as to be reasonable. Halfway between winter and summer (i.e. today?) Not so much. But it's not overly surprising that a school (not student, school) which designates its February school vacation as "Spring Break" would play as fast and loose with other seasons.
What is the point of dissecting this?

We have a high school program here that is private and run by a University and follows University schedule. They start the week of labour day, have a fall "reading week" around US columbus day (canadian thanksgiving), do exams for first semester first two weeks of December, go back in first week of January have another reading week in mid February the students all call in Spring break, then a extended "weekend" around easter. They are now done classes for the year.

Since I learned of this program here I have realized that school calendars are nit so cookie cutter.

I hope the original poster enjoys her trip!

OP, every thread you have started has been about ways around Disney rules. That is probably why people are picking your threads apart.

Yes, rules do apply to you, so you need to figure out how to work within them.

I genuinely was wondering if there was a hotel/place to stay for minors. I wasn't trying to work around the rules. I was looking for an answer to my questions, because I needed to know for my plans.
There is no reason for someone to yell at a minor because they don't believe me when I explain my school schedule.

It's the middle, and that and end of year highschool testing (that we don't take) adds weeks on.
Schools are required to provide 180 days of class time, at least (in high school) 5.5 hours per day (990 hours per school year). It's been this way for decades. Common Core has zero effect on the number of school days. There are not extra days added in to the year for Common Core.

Again, a school that provides only 160 days of instruction is cheating its students. A private school in session for only 160 days is also cheating anyone paying the students' tuition.
That's great!
However, I am not your child so you have no right to accuse me of lying.
Questioning is not accusing.

Thanks! Nobody else responding here has ever heard of this unusual scheduling, either!

eta: just to clarify, this is an institute of higher education denoting a February break as "sprng"?

And to say someone might attend a private school, I know most HS private schools are on the same or close to the same calendar as public schools because of sports. Google it, OP, to make sure I'm correct on this.
Here the private schools do have to meet the minimum hours in class, but their days tend to be 30-40 minutes longer so they get many more days / breaks than the public schools do. My DD is in public school and goes from 8:40am- 2:48pm, my sister's kids go to a private school, and attend 8:30-3:30 each day. My sisters kids are in class for 32 minutes longer each day which works out to quite a few extra breaks or days off. We live in the same city. The Private schools have slightly different holiday breaks than the public schools do. If sports are scheduled on a private school day off they will just attend on their day off.

I went to a private high school. Our sports teams played other private schools in the area, not public schools, so we didn't have to match vacation days. YMMV.

Thank you for that info. I guess I should have been more specific in that post I meant about HS private schools being on a similar schedule. I was referring to many private schools here in lower Michigan. My sons competed in HS sports quite often with private schools in "our" area. Probably is quite different from state to state thus why I said for the OP to google more info on that if he/she wanted. :)

Not buying it. You wanted to know if they would let a friend who didn’t have a FP use the FP line and if you could get around the age requirement at check in with online check in. If you are old enough to go on vacation alone they you are old enough for adults to yell at you. Although no one has been yelling. They have been questioning inconsistencies in your story.

The students refer to it as Spring Break, the actual school calls it reading week. They encourage you to study rather than go to Cancun

1. I recommend having an actual adult relative present in the general vicinity in case of emergency. As many parents here will tell you from experience, 17 year olds may run into a lot of road blocks while traveling. (Getting medical care, hotel rooms, rental cars, etc.) Everyone hopes nothing will happen, and odds are it won’t, but I’ve dealt with enough trips with other people’s minor children to know that having an adult empowered to make decisions on behalf of any minors can be important.

2. Our “up north” private school does get out a full two to two and a half weeks before the local public schools, although our other vacations generally mirror them. It has nothing whatsoever to do with common core, but does have to do with the fact that we do not do state standardized tests, which take up a number of days twice a year in the public schools. However, we definitely don’t get out of school before the AP national test dates are over. That would present a lot of logistical problems.

Ditto. Both where I grew up and where I live now, the private and public schools are in different leagues and they never play each other. The schools sometimes have vastly different schedules.

Schools are not all required to provide 180 days of class time.

Why is it cheating the students? Because some bureaucrat once decided that students need to be in school for 180 days? Quality not quantity makes a huge difference.
LOL FWIW, I'll take my private school education over a public school one any day, and I'm pretty sure the tuition for it was worth it to my parents. I can assure you if my father felt cheated he wouldn't have forked over the dough for 4 years.

And really, you are basically harassing a teen over what you think is correct.

Spring break is in February (which isn't spring anywhere in the world.)

Where I went to college, we had spring break in February. Not sure if they still have the same schedule anymore.

For those of you who have your panties in a wad over the use of the word spring: most colleges call their semesters "fall semester" and "spring semester." The break refers to the semester in which it occurs, not the season. K-12 schools often use the same terminology.
