Have you ever met a celebrity or public figure in person?

I forgot about science fiction conventions. For years my friends and I threw huge parties at some of the conventions. Jason Mewes and Jewel what's her name from Firefly often partied with us. I threw out Richard Hatch from BSG for being a creeper (or told the door guy too) one year and we had hibatchi with him once while part of a huge costuming group of the Crazy 88s. It was random. There were others but those stand out. I've also been to a couple of parties with Jack White - weird guy. Nice, but weird.

I think the only famous person is my daughters little league coach, LOL! If I didn’t know she was on espn as a football sportscaster or something football related, I wouldn’t know she was something other then a mom coaching.

My neighbor, across the street from me, owns a children's clothing store.

One day, Glenn Frey came into the store. He was in town visiting a relative. She had no idea who he was, but they started talking and he mentioned that he was hungry and asked if there was any place she'd recommend for a sandwich. She referred him to a deli that was across the street. He asked what she liked and she told him that it was a huge sandwich. He bought one and brought it back to share with her. They became fast friends.

He would stop by whenever he was in town to visit her. She thought he was a poor and struggling musician based on how he was dressed and that he carried his beaten up guitar case. She was trying to find work for him in town so she could give him referrals!

When he passed away, she heard the name on the TV and wondered who this other person was with her friend's name. When she saw his face, that was the first time she found out that he was one of the Eagles and was actually a very famous musician.

If so, who?

What were the circumstances?

How did they treat you? Were they nice, nasty, or somewhere in-between?

At a Disney Park? No, but have met, Morgan Freeman, very nice man, he asked many questions about me and what I do, David Keith, also very nice, John Stamos, at a parade in Houston, very nice and very handsome, George Strait, smaller than I thought but funny and nice. I've seen celebrities, but didn't actually talk to, Billy Bob Thorton, he held a door open for me at a store in Memphis. So far I haven't encountered any rude people, they are people just like us.

Most famous, I would say, would be Buzz Aldrin. Very nice and cordial.
Duffy Dyer held a door open for me when I was a teenager. I had no idea who he was. (Catcher for the NY Mets.)
I've met a few professional wrestlers: Rick Flair was nice, Tazz stayed in character, Missy Hyatt was very nice.
I've met some Beatles related musicians. Pete Best was fairly friendly, Billy Preston was nice, Donovan is a wonderful person, Laurence Juber and his wife Hope (daughter of TV legend and Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch creator Sherwood Schwartz) couldn't be nicer, Mark Hudson (of the Hudson Brothers) is friendly and hilarious, Neil Innes (of Monty Python) is also swell. The late Victor Spinetti was great, as was the late Zacherle (Chiller Theater, etc.). Harry Nilsson was also very nice. Mark Rivera, of Billy Joel's band, also a friendly, funny guy.
Oh, and when I was a little kid on a family vacation we met the legendary reporter Edward R. Murrow, who was gracious.
Everybody I know who has met Paul McCartney sings (pun intended) his praises.

Bill Gates
He was key speaker at a show I was coordinator for.
show management was all in front of the building waiting for him and he came into building from the back.
Very funny and nice and he joked about trying to keep them confused.

Yup... i met Gary Sinise at Downtown Disney. He was very very nice and was talking to a vet. I didn't want to interrupt but he still stood for photos with people.

Monday I met Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia) and she was super wonderful. What a great gracious lady!

I was an extra in a movie with John Goodman, but didn't actually "meet" him...just did acting in the same scenes.

I met Hulk Hogan also as he came in to buy a computer at the Gateway store I worked at in Clearwater, FL

When I was a CM, I saw the late Peter Mayhew (RIP) walking backstage at Magic Kingdom, and I saw Beyonce perform live for the Disney Christmas special

We stayed at GF Royal Palm Club at the same time as Wayne Gretzky and his family and Drew Carry(two separate trips). Both were very polite in any interactions we had with them in the lounge.

We met Joe Rhode in the AKL concierge lounge. He was very friendly and sat at our table for 15-20 minutes and chatted. He then went on to spend about a half hour with a young (8-9) autistic boy who was sitting in front of the TV watching Disney cartoons (we did not assume this - his mother was at the table next to us and talked about her son and how he rarely talks to anyone). They were discussing the cartoons and why he liked/disliked certain ones, what he liked at the parks, etc. It was really great to talk to him but even better to see this interaction.

I met quite a few. My favorite encounter was a prominent (at the time) Minnesota Vikings player. We were the only two people in a tiny gym and he didn't like my form on the treadmill. I had just built myself up to being able to slowly jog. He came over and positioned my body so I wouldn't end up hurting myself. He was really sweet about it and respectful. At that point I didn't know who he was. I found out later that evening and my friends were mad at my luck.

I've met several but the nicest were Lance Henriksen, Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannary and Matthew Lillard. Seriously, Matthew Lillard makes me want to be a better person.

But by far my favorite was John Denver. and I will always be grateful for how kind he was and will cherish the short time we got to spend together. :cloud9:

I ran into Michael Strahan at a Golf Tournament two summers ago. He was friendly and took a picture, not much conversation.

Alan Alda runs a science communication program a few years ago at the university I used to work at. He was especially active in a summer workshop for communicating science. He started a program called the Flame Challenge for kids. Everyone LOVED him.

I’ve actually met quite a few famous scientists, not sure if that counts. Neil Armstrong was on the Board of Directors of the first place I worked and he actually came onsite and to meetings on the very rare occasion (I worked for defense subcontractor). Met astronaut Eileen Collins at a conference where she described what her experience in space. I’ll NEVER forget listening to her talk because she was completely humbled and transformed by the experience and was able to describe it so beautifully. I’ll probably never get to travel into space, but hearing that talk was the next best thing.

Adam Conover (Adam Ruins Everything) is the son the Dean of the college I earned my graduate degree from. His mom and I worked together to preserve an area of our campus. I thought it was great that he broke out and went into television as his family are all serious academics.

Ralph Macchio is my former director’s next door neighbor. Or was, not sure if he still lives there now that he has a new show. My friend went through a divorce and moved as well, so I can’t even ask. He was just a regular guy, and most people didn’t think of him as an actor because the Karate Kid happened so long ago. He just did regular family things and lived in a regular house and neighborhood.

I guess most of the people I’ve met have been through work, when I was in higher ed. Now that I teach high school I don’t usually leave the building.

Mine are not too exciting.

My friends and I went to a New Kids on the Block concert a couple years ago and 98 Degrees was their opening act. My friend had a broken foot, so we had to use an elevator to get to our seats instead of the escalator everyone else was using. After the concert, we rode the elevator up with Justin Jeffre from 98 Degrees.

Eddie Montgomery (country singer) is from my hometown, so I have seen him lots of times at stores and restaurants around town.

When you think about it, those Disney characters must be among the most famous faces out there.:earsboy:

Several summers ago DH and I volunteered at outdoor summer festival that included celebrity chefs, comedians and music acts.
Robert Irvine is sweet, as is Ellie Krieger (and her daughter is a doll and husband is nice too-liked having beers with him)
But we were off shift from volunteering at a beer tent (strict no drinking on duty due to liquor license laws) and the shift for driving the talent didn't show up. So we got pulled-DH ended up going to airport to get Faith Hill's luggage (she helped him load the stuff into SUV then went with her driver-he said she was super nice), I had to dispatch the drivers as talent started leaving to catch flights. Was next to green room-ended up the night drinking with One Republic--minus Ryan-he and his wife left early after their set after making me promise the boys wouldn't get into trouble LOL-they were fun guys!

DH's daughter is close friends with a pro football player and his wife-super sweet; they came for Christmas dinner as their family wasn't in the state.
