A lot of people currently using the term "feminist" to label themselves are really "anti-male". And yes, I know that wasn't the original definition. - But language evolves, and I don't want to be associated with a group that says women are better than men any more then I want to be part of one that says men are better than women.

Do you have some examples of femanists who are really anti-men rather than equal rights for all? This is not something I've noticed.

What is the "modern" definition of feminism that people are referring to?
As years and years and years have gone on so has what feminism as a definition changed. The goal posts change as time goes on. To that point different cultures and countries are in various stages.

There have been various types of feminism has time has gone on.

This is IMO a good description of feminism over time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

What's your stand on misogyny?

I don’t like it.

I think women have had & have to overcome a lot... misogynistic practices & attitudes are some of those things which we’ve faced in our history &, unfortunately, still sometimes face today.

I used to consider myself a feminist. Not any more. The current popular culture portrayal of feminists are man-hating women who want to stomp down all men and rule over them. They are prejudiced and bigoted. It is true that men & women are not exactly alike. There are some biological differences between men & women. I think that men have a lot of positive things to contribute to society and not all men are sexual harassers who will try to rape you and take your rights away. There are good men out there. I am absolutely for equal rights.

It's a hard no for me. I want equality for ALL human beings, not just specifically "women". The definition of gender either of the two sexes of male & female is outdated. As long as gender is used as binary, only 2 separate forms of masculine & feminine, we will never see change and inequality will only continue. Gender should be non-binary, fluid, & equal for all. We shouldn't have to identify our gender for equal rights and we should all coexist as one.

You bet I am.

I was raised in the 60’s and 70’s during Women’s Liberation. I come from a long line of strong independent women. My Mother taught me that I am equal to any man and how to stand up for myself. My Grandmother was a member of the League of Women Voters; a graduate of the Yale School of Music; and was the first woman in our city to own and drive a car. I’m related to Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. The women in my family have always been Feminists, and that’s how I raised my daughter. I can’t imagine being okay with being subservient to anyone, much less a man.

Haven't read the whole thread but back in my day feminists burned their bras.....nope not for me. Even tho I was voted my HS senior year most likely to head the Woman's Lib movement. To this day I'm not sure how I got that "title"except for that fact that I helped lead the movement for our girls in high school to be able to wear pantsuits and not always dresses and skirts.

What's your stand on misandry?

I've stated many times in past threads that I am not biased against men. That hasn't changed. Some men are awful. So are some women. So are some of every race, creed and color. I believe in taking people individually.

I raised the question about misogyny because so much concern about "man bashing" was expressed. I don't think feminism equates to extremist views against men and I don't have patience for those who do.

I understand. Maybe I'm totally misreading your post but one can be against misogyny without being a feminist right?
