Weighted Blankets for Adult Women :)

Interesting. I had never heard of them but coincidentally saw them on display in a store just a few days ago. I don’t know if I’d like the weight, but they were very soft and plush.

Is there anywhere that sells these where you can feel it in person?

I saw them at Bed Bath and Beyond, and they were Brookstone brand, so would assume Brookstone also sells them in their stores.

I've made several. My daughter loves hers and just made one for her boyfriend for Valentine's Day. They are not difficult, but do take some time. The cost to make one runs around $60 for fabric and another $30 for 12 pounds of pellets from Joann's with coupons. Total weight ends up right around fifteen pounds. There are lots of tutorials online. If you can sew a straight line, you can make one!
What kind of fabric did you use? Does it have to be a particular knit or type?

This is so interesting. I'm Chinese, when my daughter was a baby and had trouble sleeping, my grandmother made her a weighted blanket with rice.

I used the Soft N Comfy fabric from Joann's. It's super soft and it does add some warmth and weight to the blanket as well. My daughter still slept under hers all summer long. Flannel or a thicker cotton would work, too. The biggest thing is to make sure it's all polyester or all cotton and pre-washed. I tried to find things with minimal stretch, too. For my minimal sewing skills, fabric with some kind of pattern I could follow to sew straight lines was helpful, too.

I've recently started a DIY project, sewing my own weighted blanket. I'm actually using 10c coins for the weights, as it was the cheapest per gram filler material I could find. Seriously. It's cheaper than glass beads, or even metal rods which could be cut to pieces. Poly beads aren't heavy enough for my liking.
I've designed mine to weigh 1.6g per cm^2, or about 70kg for a 1.8m by 2.4m blanket. The heaviest blankets available online are 25lb, or about 11kg. The thing that gets me is, while an 11kg bag of flour would feel pretty damn heavy, when that same weight gets distributed over a 2m^2 surface, the pressure becomes almost nothing. I need something much heavier for effective DPT. I can always re-make it later if I decide it's too heavy.

I bought myself a Sharper Image brand weighted blanket (its 15lbs) at BJs Wholesale Club for $99. The week after I bought it, I saw the same exact one at my local Walmart. I believe it was $129 at Walmart. I was happy to see it in the store because I had the option to easily return it if I didn't like it. I love it, and I now have to buy one for my daughter because she keeps trying to steal mine.

I finally bought one for my son, when I saw them actually on sale, on the shelf, at a regional department store chain here in the South. I think it was like $60.00.
I think it says it weighs 12/14 pounds. IMHO, it is HEAVY!!!!
It is like a small comforter/thow that, instead of soft filler, it has heavy smooth glass beads in each square.
I just chose a neutral light tan/beige color.

I myself could never, ever, use one of these, I need weightless warmth.
But, I do believe in them for people who have a thing with the anxiety, desire to feel controlled and 'grounded'.

I tried it my mom got me the lightest one available and it was still to heavy for me but I am glad it is working out for everyone else

I love mine! I got it for myself for Christmas. I only use mine when I’m resting on the couch. I haven’t tried it in bed yet. I’m afraid it would bother my legs. I like to be able to kick freely when I sleep.

I actually miss it during the day! There is something so wonderful about snuggling under it and relaxing. It’s kind of a process to get it off to stand up because it’s so heavy. There’s no whipping it off to stand up quickly. So the additional bonus is that if the dog asks to go out, I have to say, “Someone else needs to get up. I have the weighted blanket on me.”

I bought one because I am a restless sleeper and my husband insists on sleeping under tons of blankets and then turning the AC way up (even in the winter!) so he doesn't get hot under all of that weight.

I loved how I slept, but I started having sciatica issues almost immediately, which I hadn't had in years. So I took it off the bed and the sciatica went away. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, but I did love it otherwise...

I really want one but the one i saw at Walmart was over $120! Not spending that for a blanket.

Is there anywhere that sells these where you can feel it in person? I don’t know anyone who has ordered one but they look interesting. I’m always eager to try more holistic approaches.

They sell them at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I bought one for DS for his birthday. He's a young adult and struggles with anxiety at times, and he has said this has really helped him quiet his mind and sleep much better.

I also saw some at a Target out of state recently. I'm not sure if they are in all stores yet though.

I almost want to say it was Meijer where I saw them on display fairly recently. It could have been Walmart though. I don't think they were very expensive.

My granddaughter has one and loves it. I tried it, due to my anxiety, and hated it. To be fair, I'm not a big fan of blankets to begin with. I'd suggest trying before buying though.

Okay, y'all have interested me in a weighted blanket, but -- WOW -- I did not expect to google them and find the prices so high!

Someone said something about a 30-day guarantee? I never thought I'd want a guarantee on a blanket, but when it's $200 or more ... I'd be really upset if it wasn't what I expected.

Are these machine washable?

Are you near Detroit? LoL. I will be in Detroit the week of New Years. We will go up to Belle River Ontario. Probably no where near you. Maybe if you take a trip to Disney to have one delivered to the hotel?

update! Just got one for my wife this Christmas. Retailer in Canada had them on for $44 regular $150 so couldn’t not buy one. Wife loves it and I need to buy myself one as well.

The company I ordered from offers a version called CoolMax for those who have hot flashes, night sweats, or hot sleepers. The blanket isn't heavy at all. You only feel all 15 pounds if it's balled/folded up and you are holding the entire blanket in your hands.

UNIQUE FEATURES:

Fabric:
COOLMAX® ALL SEASON technology transports moisture away from the body to keep the wearer cool and dry on hot days, while the fiber structures provide warmth on colder days, helping to optimize performance. It is not only quick-dry but also provides amazing breathable functionality. The weave is more dense than quilting cotton, but still smooth and comfortable to the touch.

Use:This blanket is great for menopausal women who struggle with night sweats, anyone living in a warm climate, or anyone who is a hot sleeper.
Can I ask what company this is? I run hot. Ceiling fan and floor fan year round.
