How often do you get to ZERO inbox?

At work, we are expected to read e-mails almost as soon as they come in. So if I am doing my job my Inbox is always at ZERO (assuming you mean read, not deleted) But that may be unique to my industry where everything is extremely time sensitive. Typical day that would be 300 to 400 e-mails

The folks I feel for are Fire Dispatchers who answer 911 calls. Not e-mail, but their goal is to get emergency crews on scene in 6 to 8 minutes of a call coming in. In their case, a delay could be life or death. So I have it easy.,

Regularly... on my own personal accounts, I can't stand to have anything unread in my inbox. For my job, it's actually part of my job to monitor how my team is doing and to help them with the client. I think getting to 0 is just a byproduct of my job though.

I mean deleted, filed or actioned.
Never - my work inbox currently has over 2,000 read messages in it (all dealt with appropriately). Probably wrong of me but there are so many categories of things I handle and different ways I could possibly file them, it's just easier to leave them where they land. I search for old messages 50 times a day or more to use as references.

Frequently. It's a personal choice to read and classify all my new emails as soon as I can. I have a rule, for example, that I can't get coffee in the morning before I've cleared my initial inbox. Sometimes that means I don't get my coffee until around noon. I get hundred of emails per day, and clearing them in this way is the only way to stay on top of all I have to do.

As soon as I read it and don't need to keep it, it is deleted and trash folder is emptied multiple times a day (both at home and work). There is a lot of unnecessary chatter on work email and those that don't involve me are deleted immediately (such as "whoever called Sally, please call her back, she didn't get your name, etc). IT told us we are supposed to keep 6 months of emails. I laughed at them and told them no way is that going to happen on my computer.

I should mention we also have SLACK for internal communications, and that many public agencies now communicate official information through Twitter or Facebook. We are supposed to be on top of all of those. In a perfect world, any communication on any of those platforms would be filed or actioned as soon as it came in, or within a few minutes.

 What else do you get done in a typical shift? 8 hours is only 480 minutes. I recieve on average about 30 a day and reading them, researching the situation and planning an action takes several minutes each and that doesn't include actually answering them and/or implementing the necessary action. It takes a good chunk of my day and anything non-urgent gets worked in when I am able.

Assuming the OP is talking about job related emails, it depends on your specific job and what the company expects of its employees. Someone in customer service, for example, probably needs to respond to external emails in a timely manner and the volume may be much larger then for other types of jobs. Internal emails can be prioritized based on whether you are simply cc: for information vs. your boss giving you an assignment or asking for a reply on a specific question. Too many people at our office tend to ponder insignificant emails that can be deleted once you realize the contents isn't specific for you. Knowing what to delete, what requires follow-up or a reply can greater reduce the volume of work you are handling. Someone asking several people for their opinion on something isn't a priority. The most annoying are those who do a 'reply to all' on routine topics and it turns into a bad chain letter......LOL.

Try as I might, I can’t figure out what CoB stands for. Can I have a hint?

I'm not sure it ever got completely empty, but I used to get pretty close at least a couple of times a year. Last 5 years though.... not so much. It makes me cringe a little. In my defense, I have read all of them and responded as needed to nearly all of them.
