Skipper's Canteen....is it just me or do they get NO love?

Had Skippers today for the first time.

Hostesses and Servers are pretty funny. It's basically the Jungle Cruise Skippers who now work at the restaurants, so plenty of laughs, although they're not as polished as the Skippers on the Cruise.

Food was pretty good. Not many places inside MK to eat a decent meal with flavors like this.

App - got the Falafel with homemade hummus... really good, and felt light after. Good crunch on the falafel and hummus was sweet and diff than what I'm used to. Loved this.

Entree - Chicken... been wanting to try it and glad i i did. It was good, but not as good as I had hoped for. It's not really fried chicken, but it is, if that makes sense. Sauce was good, but not great, and the steamed veggies and rice were just that. Not an outstanding entree by any means, but good nevertheless. Their entree selections aren't that all amazing, but will def be back to try something else because...

Dessert - Quick Sand... excellent dessert!!!!! prob my fav so far (only on day 3... so far, Boathouse, Skipper, Flying Fish, and BOG). This beats all desserts so far, with BOG trio coming in 2nd, Fish 3rd and Boathouse 4th. But man, the Quick Sand has like a rice pudding base with other stuff, can't remember what else it had, but was amazingggg...

I liked the food but the portions were very small and we were still hungry afterwards after spending a lot of money. Haven't been back.

I thought it was ok and would be willing to try again. I got the chicken dish and that sauce was overly salty to me. Want to try the noodles one day. Loved the coconut bar dessert.

I agree! We first tried SC in 2017 and the food was AMAZING and the service is hilarious! Now we have to go at least once every trip!

We got a last minute lunch reservation at Skipper Canteen in April. We LOVED it!! My daughter and I both got the Perkins Thai Noodles. This dish was amazing and the right amount of spicy. I have been dreaming of it ever since.

I've looked at the menu lately and it appears that the hot and sour soup is no longer on the menu. The soup is now an unnamed seasonal selection. The hot and sour soup was my main reason for going to Skippers' Canteen because it was so amazing. I always figured it wouldn't last, though, because it wasn't bland enough for the masses. I'll have to get my fix at Morimoto's, for as long as that lasts.
Oh no! That was my husband's favorite thing there. He will be disappointed. I'm glad that you posted this so that I can warn him in advance.
Sadly, we did not enjoy Morimoto's. We tried it on two different trips and it just did nothing for us.

Skipper's Canteen is my favorite in-park restaurant. But please don't let that get around. I like that I can get a reservation when I want it.

My big concern is that Disney will dilute their menu into nothingness, the way they did with Akershus (and their formerly great buffet of herrings, smoked salmons, and cheeses). I’d rather see it gain popularity with its current menu.

SHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhh! No one even knows it's there yet!

I love it...as long as I don’t have to look at the peeling eyeballs of the whole fried fish. Thankfully I have not had to deal with one on the table next to me - just saw it being brought in for a table on the other side of the room. They should really have a “no whole fish” room.

As I recall, the entire fish was covered in batter so no details were visible.

I LOVE Skipper Canteen! The entrees don’t sound that exciting to me, so I usually do 2 appetizers - some combo of the shu mai, noodle salad and cachapas. Mmmmm....

While we had no difficulty getting a reservation, we still waited 30-45 mins for a table. It was packed during our late August trip!

Like some have said, the food is good but not outstanding. When we ate at Yak and Yeti, we immediately classed it as a must-do restaurant. Skipper's Canteen is a "sure, we'll be happy to eat here again" place.

While I appreciate some menu items on SC's menu, I wouldn't eat them all and I think that's the issue. No, I wouldn't go as far to say the food is "Exotic" in nature, but there are some really out there menu items, that even I wouldn't eat and I'm a very adventurous eater. Usually when I go out to eat, I would say I would willingly eat more than half of the menu items. I would never eat that whole fried fish. 1) I like non-fried/fat laden dishes and if you look closely a lot of items on the menu to me have that. 2) I noticed they seem to lack plain food items that most places offer in addition to their specialized food items. So picture Raglan Road for example. We know they serve traditional Irish food, but they also serve lots of basic, plain food like salmon, chicken, pork chop, and 2 burgers. Unlike Raglan Road, SC really doesn't have many "plain" options--depending on the diner. Notice their menu features some plain items like the steak, but then it's served adobo seasoned with "chorizo farfofa." I'm sure the chefs at SC would be happy to accommodate, but I'm just pointing out that overall the menu doesn't have as many plain, basic options as most restaurants do which is probably why it's less popular and considered to be "Exotic" to some.

My family is full of adventurous eaters (and we like spicy too) and we were excited a few years ago when this restaurant opened. We had a completely underwhelming meal, including my DS disliking the chicken dish, and no one wants to go back to try it again.

Well I for one like the place. It was nice to see the Magic Kingdom actually get a restaurant that I wanted to go to. And its not the generic burgers, pizza and fries that seems to be Disney's goal for eating out.

I really like Skipper's too, mostly for the deserts. The meals have always been good but not great, but the deserts are amazing!

We went once and have zero desire to go back. I recall the desserts being the best part of the meal also.

We loved it. YDS (then 11) got the whole fish and picked it clean. It was legendary.

I wasn't super hungry and got the chachapas and green salad. Way more than enough.

DH got the Thai noodles and devoured them.

And my picky older son got the char sui, I believe? I could be wrong. Whatever it was, he enjoyed it.

There really is a varied menu, it can be tuned to anyone. I just hope not everyone discovers it :)

Not surprised you got ADR, we've never even had one, we just walk up and get seated fairly promptly.

Sometimes there is someone out front with menus trying to "advertise" it.
