Finger Scan

I know this is not my post, but can you explain the finger scan. When do we do this? Why? This is my first time hearing this. Ugh. I am sorry to take over this post. TIA!!

Disney tickets are non-transferable. This is their way of making sure you don’t hand your magic band or card to someone else.

yea - just make sure you 1) use the same finger 2) don't have any lotion on the finger 3) press your finger all the way down 4) don't move at all ---

did I miss any ? sorry - I digress , but we seem to spend half the trip have the band "reset"

Don't try to scan wearing mittens.
Don't try to scan wearing gardening gloves.
Don't try to scan wearing a catcher's mitt.
Don't try to scan using your elbow.
Don't try to scan using your tongue.

This will be my family very first Disney Vacation. We go in 13 days. So I guess we need to go early than expected to do our fingerprints?
No, it's really not that big of a deal.
It adds a second or two, if anything. After you tap the band, put your finger down (make sure it's the same each time)

Oooh, can I ask a followup question about this? We've had to do this each trip with our youngest, and it's worked fine...but on our upcoming trip, sometimes he'll be going to the parks with us, and sometimes he'll be going with my parents (without us). Assuming that his fingerprint doesn't work for the biometric scan again, is there a way to handle it so that he'll be able to go to the parks with different people on different days, or do we need to rethink sending him with the grandparents? Thanks!
Just have the youngest use their own finger. My little siblings always forget, so we always do thumb with the opposite hand that the magic band is on. Makes it easy.

one thing to remember esp with kids is to use same finger each time you enter the parks. I trouble with the using after my first scan and i was asked if I was sure I had right finger could I have used other hand. since I walk with a cane I knew it was the right finger. the reset and redid the scan and I worked fine rest of trip. and all was done right at scanner at the gate as you go in

Was overthinking the process. Thank you.
Not at all, but best to be a creature of habit, for me that’s MB on left hand taps while right thumb scans :).
BTW when you go to the line for your FPs at rides you’ll also tap the turnstile w/ your MB or ticket card but you don’t have to finger scan there, if Mickey turns green you’re good to go, if he turns blue you’re probable too early.

@ashleyr409

I think you are over estimating the finger scan process timing.

It’s simply a part of park entrance for everyone, every time you enter.

Definitely no reason to go early.

Easy peasy!!
Have a wonderful trip!

And if you want to do the finger scan even faster than the video shows, you can put your finger down at the same time you hold your band/card to the reader.
The finger scanner will start scanning even while your card is being read. It saves you just two seconds, but that adds up.

That’s how I do it with my pointer finger which is easier to put in the scanner than my thumb. Plus I am used to scanning my finger as I do it all day long as a nurse

this idea doesn't work for as while I scan the left with band my right is holding my cane as it always does which I need

I was just thinking about my ds24 he decided he didnt want a finger scan... so we all went in and he was sent to stand in line to show his id... he looked so miserable ... I have to laugh when he can through we were all eating mickey pops waiting

The past two trips they've never been able to get any of his fingers to read. I'm not sure why, but they always try for a few minutes on the first day and then give up and have my husband (the one who is usually pushing his stroller) do it with his finger instead. DS is tiny for his age, so idk if his fingers have just been too small for them to get enough points read or what, but I'm hoping it'll work with his finger this time.
