I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

All this talk about MBs today has me thinking again about planning a trip to WDW. Keep trying to pencil it in somewhere, but too many places, too little time. Though mostly it's because we're tied to the school schedule and it just seems like there are no good choices. So - which would you say is the least worst in terms of crowds?

Thanksgiving week
Christmas week
New Year's week
Spring break - week before Easter
First week of June

I suspect it's first week of June, but that doesn't work well with our other travel plans. Second least worst too, please. :D

I think conventional wisdom is June, but we are here now and it is fairly busy. More importantly if is HOT. Which is fine but makes crowds seem much worse. I would do November.

My points have always posted a couple days after making a spend but I have been waiting weeks with no points and I hate to just keep waiting. My deadline to meet the MSR is in 3 weeks.

I am in a similar position waiting for my Delta miles......did you figure out what they may have disallowed?

So far my interactions with Amex on this....

Online Chat #1 - Yes, I can see the welcome offer on your account - you have to allow 6-8 weeks for the miles to post.
Phone Call #1 - Yes, the offer is on the account but you haven't met the required spend yet. (30 secs later)...Oh it looks like you have met the spend. Hopefully the bonus miles will post with your May statement.
Chat #2 - I'm sorry sir, there is no welcome offer attached to your account.
Call #2 - Yes I see the welcome offer, and can see you have met the required spend. I don't know why the miles have not posted and unfortunately, we cannot create a case to look into this as we have until your June statement to award them to your account.

And so the wait goes on.........

2 years ago I had similar experience with DH’s Delta Plat Biz. I finally reached out and they posted the points when I contacted through Twitter. Not sure if Amex is on Facebook but you could try that too if you are on it. I think chats and calls are useless.

You really do notice a lot of things (as in Burlingame south for VV). I have to say that's impressive. My DH deals with the CC bills (and other bills) for me, but I have to do the shopping part (and remembering which card to use). All 3 of us have a bunch of VV stuff, none of it from Target, but it's all their more muted items and all were bought with deals, sales, etc. I find that if I watch something long enough I can generally get it at a good price. I did make DH try on this crazy pink jacket covered with blue sharks, but that was just so I could take a pic and laugh about it. :rotfl: Their men's performance fabric button down shirts do make packing super easy since they are so thin. He took a bunch of them on our cruise in Europe and they folded down to practically nothing.

Haha. I confess I had no idea what VV was until maybe 2 years ago, and first thought it referred to a wine label or wine club. Once you know, you start noticing it everywhere. It really is a can’t miss preppy leisurely style. I don’t see it much here in the city. I tried hard to think if I see it around in the Marina, but even there the style has moved over to athleisure brands, that whole I just came from my yoga class but not really look. Oh, and Rothy’s shoes. Everywhere. My wife has 6 pairs. :faint:

Definitely start the spreadsheet now. I too said I was going to take things slow, and I probably am one of the more slow "churners" on here. I haven't opened a new card myself since December! So I am way over due. lol I also said I didn't want business cards for a long time. But in the last 2 years between DH and I we have opened 15 cards including 3 Biz cards each. It is so easy to get confused and forget when things happened. Your best bet is to start with a CIP for one and then refer the spouse for the CIP. Depending on when you next travel, the CSP is now a better SUB and can be referred by spouse for more points so would be better than CSR, but if you think you might use the perks of the lounge or the Global Entry credit, than that could push the CSR first. There really is no one size fits all and is dependent on your needs and what you feel comfortable doing. But I promise, the more you stick around here, the more cards you will want! FOMO is real here. Good luck!

Yes - a spreadsheet is a must :thumbsup2

Slow & steady - that's definitely me! I'm a victim of analysis paralysis, but hopefully the spreadsheet will break that hold.
FOMO is an understatement. I don't see us hitting 15 cards in two years, but never say never, right?!?!

Robert from Mileonomics just returned from Italy so I'm taking a close look at his itinerary and the tours he booked using Chase UR. I know I definitely want to do the Colosseum Underground Tour and the day trip to Pompeii and Amalfi Coast. I also want to do the Roman food tour where you make pasta and pizza with a local. Our Airbnbs in Rome and Venice are booked as well.

I knew I'd get solid information & thoughtful encouragement here, then I saw this ^^. Just another reason why I love this place!

They also tend to be lower quality. We picked up some Hunter stuff for our kiddo last year and we’re really disappointed by the quality of the boots. And we weren’t the only ones. We found lots of complaints online. Not to mention Target itself ended up delaying then canceling the women’s tall rain boots because of quality control issues.

I think yes, these collaborations are priced about 20-40% lower than the co-brand’s usual pricing, so people go gaga over them because it’s still stamped with that brand’s label and offers different styles that fans of the brand won’t otherwise find. But buying resell is a bit silly because once the eBayers mark up their items you’re paying essentially the same price as buying from the brand name’s line itself, where the quality is usually much higher.
Definitely agree! I really like the men's rain jacket I got, but only because I paid around $20 and its better than my Disney parks poncho when I need to run out. lol It is in no way Hunter quality and if it were an everyday item, it would probably be worn out and need to be replaced much sooner than an actual Hunter jacket. The logo isn't event printed that well. It looks like I could just wipe it off when its wet. lol

I need more cards!

Need to woman up and apply for an AMEX card to see if we get pop ups.

New side business for you, Lain- personal shopper! My DH hates shopping with a passion, and its a struggle to get him to pay attention to sales/offers/credit cards because he puts off shopping until the absolute last minute, then decides to buy 5 shirts and 3 pairs of pants all at once because if he's looking, he might as well deal with it all at once. So he pays full retail, then doesn't shop for months (or years!) He gets cranky if I try to get involved because he hates looking at/thinking about clothes, so I generally don't find out that he's been shopping until after he has placed the order. He will also find something on sale, but not actually make the purchase, and then is surprised when he goes back and finds that it is back to full price :sad2:
My DH is similar, except he doesn't typically go alone. Since he is usually looking for the exact same style and sizing, I now have him mostly trained to tell me he needs pants so I can look for a sale. He still waits til almost the last minute on it though. Also with shoes. He found a pair he likes from Eddie Bauer, and said he wanted to get another pair when they wore out. So Thanksgiving weekend they had a good online sale, plus I bought a GC from Kroger online with my CIP (3x URs and 4xFPs). He didn't wear them until our trip a few weeks ago even though at the time I said hey, they're on sale and he said yeah, the current ones are getting worn out :confused3

Him buying dress clothes is the worst. He won't go alone, and also his neck size doesn't really match up with the torso sizing, so he has to go up so we look for the slim fit shirts. And then he gets all weird about the colors. Too light. Too dark. Shopping for a wedding shirt, he wanted blue. "That one is like frat boy blue. That one is like first engineering job blue." THOSE ARE NOT REAL COLORS!!

Is this Colorado? DD and her college buddies are heading there at the end of this week (because graduation was a few days ago and they miss each other already :rotfl:). If it's that snowy she may have some problems since most of her stuff is boxed and waiting for UPS to actually ship it home (they picked it up last Friday, but this morning we called and they said "oh yeah, we are thinking about mailing it out today" :headache:). This stuff is never easy.
Yup. It's supposed to be back in the 70s by the weekend.

Just FYI, Amex may not be the best cards to get to put driveway spend on. How do you plan to pay for your driveway with your new Amex MSR? Plastiq's terms for what's an allowable payment on an Amex is rather limited, and does not allow for payments to contractors. Amex's terms give them discretion to deny points and bonuses for P2P payments like PayPal or Venmo. If you can pay for the supplies with a credit card, that might work.

Hmmmm, I had just assumed it would be like any retailer. Slide credit card, be done? Honestly we typically pay for things in cash so the thought wouldn’t have crossed my mind. And if I’m
Saving $1500-$3000 by paying cash instead, not worth putting on a cc anyway.

Make sure you read about the Multiple CIP loophole. You probably could've been better off getting another CIP vs. the CIU but what's done is done :)

AA Biz cards...both Citi and Barclays! And maybe come back to Chase in June or even better July. :)

Hmmm so I do know about the multiple CIP cards. The first Chase Biz cards were all done in my SS#. We do have an EIN # as well, so it could be done. It just makes me soooo nervous. I don’t want to risk getting shut down before getting that Southwest companion pass lol.

Any sites where I can read more about using AA points for something other than international travel? Everything I’ve read acts like they are pretty worthless on hotels/rental cars/etc.

I think I got an updated privacy policy notice recently because I remembered thinking the same thing when I saw it in informed delivery. Also, bizarrely, I got a letter from Chase about something asinine on DH's account that said when they tried to email it to him, the email bounced back... it's the same email on both personal and business accounts and we only got the mailed letter on one account :confused3
Ahh makes me feel better especially because I got the weird bounce back e-mails about a week ago too! I quickly checked my Chase app and business account and everything looks good.

I love these loopholes, but always have a tiny hint of fear that I will get caught. Maybe thats half the fun of playing this game :goodvibes

I think it's popping up everywhere now because they opened a store here a couple of years ago? Before then we had to order online. I remember making a point to visit their store at King of Prussia mall when we took DD to college because they didn't have a local one at that time.

I see Rothys advertised daily, but I don't see them around here much. Allbirds are everywhere, though. I'm really not a fashionista with this stuff; my shopping buddy is more a Chanel/Prada type person and I consider her the fashionista. Even on clearance that stuff is way out of my comfort zone.

My BIG win this spring was a $350 long super warm down Patagonia winter coat (for DD's fellowship in Norway this winter) for under $150. She was super happy with my shopping since she's the one paying for it. ;)

Oh, 70s would be good. I was getting worried there! And my DH is the same. I have to buy him clothes once a year or so, and even then he will last for maybe an hour if I'm lucky and then he's done. Shoes are a pain since they keep discontinuing the ones he likes. The only things I can get him on my own are the VV performance shirts (maybe that's why he has so many LOL), Theory work shirts, and swim trunks. Even jeans are a huge pain.

Funny, I was just talking about analysis paralysis on here not long ago, that is definitely me in everything. I was kind of surprised to add up the spreadsheet and see 15, definitely does not seem like that many! Well, until I have to go pay them all. lol Because somehow almost all of them get spend every month. If I was better about consolidating my spend, I would be able to move a little faster on getting more. Technically I guess we really started 3 years ago and have 17 since then. I read about the CSP here and talked DH into getting a card, even with a $95 AF. That was March 2016. Then somehow in October 2016 I talked him into the CSR with the $450 AF. I thought I was good after those 2 cards. No more for us. Then I got the Companion Pass with 2 SW cards in early 2017, so then again thought we were good for awhile. Then just one more, and then one more and before you know it, you add them up and see how many you really have!

I've got an AMEX Plat Uber credit question. Typically I buy Uber GCs and load them to my account, and I was trying to figure out how the credit played into that. This is all I'm having luck finding, a comment from Doc:

I have Uber gift cards and the “Amex Premium” in my Uber cash. I guess I’m lucky that my rides so far have taken from the Amex credit before gift cards. Haven’t done anything special and wish I knew how to help you guys, but just letting you know it’s possible.

Does anyone else have experience with this to confirm? I'd be really annoyed if we did get a Plat but me having a $58 balance in there right now meant I missed an AMEX credit, ya know?

I am looking for a decent hotel close to JFK. We just need a place to sleep upon our return from Spain in a few weeks. Any suggestions? We won’t spend a lot of time there but would like a place that is clean and has decent service without wasting my precious points. I would like to use URs or transfer to partners.

The TWA Hotel at JFK? Can't get much closer to JFK, and I would totally cash out some URs to stay here!
