TEA/AECOM 2018 Theme Park Attendance Numbers

so Disney was up 5% overall with the only really big new thing being Pandora for a full year, right? And lots of construction going on

Interesting to see what 2019 shows with Glaxy's Edge opening at 2 parks for 50-60% of the year

Well you did have Toy Story for part of the year as well.

that's true - did forget that and Disney certainly marketed that as a reason to come visit (even if there is a lot of chatter about how people were waiting until GE was open to see both TSL and GE)

guess it shows it did have an impact - but maybe not as much as Disney wanted/expected

I see animal kingdom is now their Orlando properties second most attended park (or has been for a couple years now). You know the suits are loving that 10% increase in attendance. Can only imagine the impact Star Wars will have to those numbers

I posted this in the main news thread as someone asked about potential for Disneyland to pass Magic Kingdom - figured people here might be interested in this too

I had some time and love my spreadsheets, so tried to predict the attendance at the 6 stateside Disney Parks over the next few years

Kept it simple and assumed a 2% just natural increase to each park each year. I don't know of any major addition to other parks until 2020 (though I assume like Rat or something might open in 2020, but didn't contemplate that for now)

I put the impact for a full year of GE at 2x that of Pandora to AK for Disneyland and 1.75x at DHS (since getting is 2nd) and put the % of that increase being seen in 2019 as the % of months GE is open and then the remainder of the impact being seen in 2020.

basted on this it would put Disneyland still behind Magic Kingdom in 2020 - but very, very close. Now, but 2021 with the 50th anniversary and Tron opening and stuff I expect Magic Kingdom would then expand their lead.

It's hard for me to get used to the idea of Animal Kingdom as being WDW's second most attended park especially with all of the year-round festivals at Epcot.

I love it, though. I've always found AK to be the most beautiful, immersive theme park I've ever visited. Glad to see it's a night-time park as well. The "wow factor" is off the charts at night for me.

I really like the vibe of the park at night - just the music and the different entertainment going on and stuff like that. It is fun to just wander around ... and plus that it is a little cooler temperature wise

Big numbers for a half day park ;)

I know my family will spend the majority of two days there (usually a half day at night one day, and another day staying from 3ish to close). And this was before pandora opened. It’s a much more attractive spot to go to with the later hours since you don’t have to fight with the heat of the day

Universal just half a million from overtaking DHS. Too little, too late as I'm sure SWGE will blow the lead wide open.
And then comes Nintendo... All of this should be fun for a while. :)

Frankly I'm surprised that Epcot is as high as it is. I wonder if multi-day tickets help? I don't travel a zillion miles to go to festivals but to each their own.

Nintendo will likely open in Hollywood before Orlando.
