*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

I used to watch them do this in the morning during my DCP (mid-late August) and first thing in the morning during my last August trip! Of course it's never a guarantee, but I'd say you have a good chance of catching them on the carousel early in the morning.

Thanks! We'll be in Magic Kingdom early one day for Early Morning Magic, and I think we might hang out by the carousel right around 9am. Will it pop up in the app if they're going to be there?

Also, would you head straight there at 9am? Or did it take a little while? I don't want to waste too much time hanging out at the carousel during our Early Morning Magic, but I'd hate to miss the stepsisters if they're going to be there--I'd really love to meet them and have my family ride the carousel at the same time!

So as far as "popping up in the app" ... I guess technically the answer is both yes and no? Typically, they get on the carousel either when they're walking to or from their first set of the day (it depends on how the Steps are feeling.) Since they now meet intermittently with FGM, it's hard to gage when they'll actually come out. When their first set is scheduled to start, I would kind of stand by Castle Couture, since it's a good midway point in between where they meet by the castle and the carousel. If they come out and it looks like they're headed to the carousel, you can easily get there and ride at the same time as them!

We're heading down 7/31-8/6 and staying at the Poly for the first time! We haven't been to WDW in almost 11 years. I have been buying things to help with the heat, cooling towels, spray fans, Brita water bottles. We are planning on taking breaks every afternoon and just relaxing poolside and/or napping. Any other tips you all have would be great!

Anyone else upgrading their magic bands for the new upgrade options available (onsite guest only I believe). I debated back and forth but when I showed hubby them he really liked the Donald Duck one so I went ahead and upgraded both of ours. He has Donald and I have minnie.

I haven't looked at the possibilities yet. I have one to order for my AP, and they can be upgraded as well.

Yes I just upgraded ours. Vanellope for DD and Tinker Bell for me!

I think we are going to. I looked real quick this morning but will look more later with the kids

Dole whip for me, Groot for DH (he said surprise him ;), Baymax for 14DS (he's humoring me, he said grey when first asked), and Vanelope for DD. We technically have a split stay... so of course I'm considering 4 more. We can already garland our Christmas tree with Magic Bands (and do...). We really don't need more.

I’m deciding between the Jack & Sally or the castle. Probably get the castle. My son wants Black Panther. DH is holding out to see if they come out with more choices.

I haven't yet but I plan to surprise my family with them once I find out my mom's favorite character.

I'm reading they are all sold out right now. i see conflicting info on if they are going to adding more immediately or that they might be adding different options too. Guess it's now gonna be a wait and see since no one knows how quickly they will be back in stock.

So we took the plunge and are going in August! Going to stay off site 8/12 to 8/22. Also going to start looking for a new dog sitter for when we're gone. What's crazy is airfare is booked but we haven't booked our room. We like having a kitchen and with us going more frequently we stay off site usually at Windsor Hills. We're thinking about trying the new Storey Lake community. A little further but it has miniture golf which the kids love.

On another note is there a thread for people staying off site for leftover items food, toilet paper, etc. The last place stated we had to throw everything out! Such a waste.

Anyone else going to brave opening day at GE? We'll be at BC when GE opens and are working on our plans. Got our shirts and ears to wear and are prepping ourselves for a long long long day of lines - realistically getting on line by 4am on opening day is the earliest I think we'll be able to manage. Think that it would be ok if one of us hopped on line and then the other met us there with DD8? or will that be frowned upon? I'm thinking it might be better to let the 8 year old princess sleep a little later! It might make everyone's day a little more pleasant!

Anyone else patiently or not so patiently waiting for August dates to open for Frozen Ever After Dessert Party?

I think you will get mixed feelings on this but a lot of people would probably be upset thinking if they had to get up and get their kids up that early then you should have to also. Not saying that's my personal opinion but I do know I've read how people will block the line so people can't get through to meet up with their family (obviously it's one thing if a child needs to be taken to the restroom but totally different if the people haven't been waiting in the actual line the entire time...it tends to make others grumpy). But like I said this isn't entirely my own opinion. But just put yourself in others shoes. If you've been waiting for several hours and then all the sudden every person in front of you has family join them then your wait has now been extended even longer while others haven't been waiting at all. Yes, I realize that's an extreme example because not every person will have family join them later, but it's just food for thought.

I believe though with Anna and Elsa when they first came out that's how the line worked - one parent would wait - what was is, like 5-6 hours at times?? while the rest walked around and then came back? Not saying that's how this will be because I have no idea but a lot of people may go the route of sending someone to stand in line unless this time Disney would definitely say it's not allowed and enforce it. Otherwise, I would expect people to be going this route (again not saying it's right, not saying it's wrong just who knows what to expect)

True that we have no way of knowing, however I personally think its a bit different when waiting for a character meet versus a ride. When meeting a character the one person waiting doesn't impact anyone's wait time, unless of course its a huge group joining and everyone wants individual pictures. Where as an actual ride it does impact others wait time because it takes additional seats on the ride that those who have been waiting in line could have potential had. Either way the Galaxy Edge doesn't impact me at all since it opens 2 1/2 weeks after my trip.

Well and the question is in relation to getting INTO the land, not the line for the ride - so I would imagine it would be less of an issue and more like having your family join you in the crowd at rope drop. Sure you might get some side-eye...but as a PP mentioned most SW folks are used to someone staking out a space in line that's willing to get there early. I'd just avoid doing that if you are one person holding a place in line for a party of 10 LOL

We're not touching that with a 10 foot pole, but good luck!

We actually extended our trip a day to be there on the 29th. We added a night at the Contemporary and are going to find out how much you can accomplish walking into a 7am EMH at MK while (hopefully) everyone else is trying to peek at SWGE.

Please add me to the roll call for 8/7 - 8/12! :yay: My work leave was approved and yesterday I got my park ticket from Parksavers! I’ll be upgrading to an AP since I’ll be coming back for a longer trip with my gf in May. This time it will just be me staying at POFQ for the first time, and my first solo trip. I’m usually a Deluxe gal but I want to save some cash for the next round, and I’m really excited to try POFQ because it always looks so pretty when I see it on YouTube.
I just stayed at POFQ and the Contemporary earlier this month. I actually liked POFQ better in terms of resort stay. I did enjoy the theme park view and closeness of the Contemporary but I would choose POFQ over them
