Stupid People Tricks

How is that possible? Did you leave your key fob in the vehicle too? Ours shuts off when the fob gets too far away. I know this because I’ve stranded my DH in parking lots when he drops me off somewhere and I have the fob in my pocket.

I have also risked life and limb by turning my engine off with the push-button at highway speed when I was trying to hang up a Bluetooth phone call, but I digress... :rolleyes1
I can’t speak for @jaybirdsmommy but that’s not how our car works. My DH and I had a similar situation after picking up our car from the mechanic. The mechanic returned the (running) car to us but forgot to give back the fob. We were miles down the road before we realized and turned back around. We would’ve been stranded if we had parked somewhere and shut off the car before noticing.

Good info. We've now had two Toyotas and two Nissans with push-starts and they all stall when the key fob is too far away. It never occurred to me any car did otherwise. :scratchin

That’s weird because our car at the time when this happened was a Nissan Altima. :scratchin

This morning, I was convinced that I was just going to have to live in my hotel room's bathroom for the rest of my life.

I was trying to get out of the bathroom after my shower and the door would not open. No matter how hard I pushed, it just wouldn't give and I was worried that I was going to break it (it is tempered glass). I knew that I didn't need to pull it in to open, because I could see a "ledge" kind of thing on my side of the door which would stop it from opening inwards. No phone with me in the bathroom and I was starting to panic.

Then I remembered that it is a sliding door.

Now to convince a room of people that I am smart enough to advise them on how to improve their health care system :)

I’ve been following this with interest. My DH has been known to mistakenly leave our 2013 Toyota with a push start still running and it’s never shut off for us. Not exactly sure how far away he’s gone with the fob though—definitely was not an airport situation.

I chaperoned a high school trip last weekend, literally every single thing that could go wrong, went wrong. Last night we were supposed to be in bed by midnight and the mandatory breakfast got moved UP to 7 from 8:30 because our tour company was horrible. Anywho, I even waited until after breakfast to put my contacts in - and was fuming at my husband about all the bad things happening. Picked up the Clear Care - which is hydrogen peroxide of course - with a solid red cap as a warning and sprayed it on my contact and put it in my eye. Oh the burning, so bad, so bad. I've had contacts my whole life, never made that mistake before will never make it again.

I can't even put my 2018 vehicle in gear without a fob being physically in the car.

I have done that—no amount of visine can get that red out. I wasn’t able to wear a contact in that eye for at least a day.

I think they've made changes to later models after some deaths caused by leaving running cars in closed garages.

This one didn't even honk the horn or have any kind of alert that the keyfob has left the car and it's still running. My mother's car doesn't stall or turn off either, but it does beep the horn and flash the headlights if the fob leaves the car with it still running.

I HATE keyless ignitions.

My Nissan Qashqai throws up all kinds of warnings - crazy beeping and a big, flashing alert on the dashboard. I HATE keyless ignitions too. What non-problem were designers trying to find an imaginary solution for with this stupid feature?

My parents' Nissan Cube beeps if it's on and you leave the car with the fob. I don't know if it ever turns off. I have a "dumb" Cube without keyless ignition myself.

I was taking a step when one of my sisters cats (we where pet sitting) ran out I slammed my foot against the door frame and broke a toe. Fast forward 10 years I was taking a step when one of MY cats ran out slammed the same foot against a different door frame and broke the same toe yet again. Also decided to move a 200cm by 80 cm ikea bookcase decided to not put shoes on and dropped it on my foot (the other foot) broke two toes doing that.

LOL! I've broken my toes so many times I can't count! I have always hit doorways, doors, bedframes, side tables, the list is endless:) As you can guess, I don't like to wear shoes and I am incredibly clumsy:)

The doorframes and furniture move. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I was in grad school, living in a 5 story grad student dorm that was about 75% international students. We'd had lots of pumpkins for Halloween, so one weekend shortly thereafter my roommate and I decided we'd cut up the pumpkins, roast/puree them, and make pumpkin pie for everyone. What could be more traditional USA Thanksgiving than that, right? It took us days to process the pumpkin, but we were finally at pie making day. We went to the store for ingredients, but I'd just written "sugar" and couldn't decide whether we needed brown or white sugar, so we got both. We made 12 pies, and used the ovens on all 5 floors to get them in the oven. Cleaning the kitchen, I picked up the brown sugar and said, "Well, I guess I was wrong about needing brown sugar," whereupon my roomie picked up the white sugar and said, "Well, we didn't use the white sugar, either!" Fortunately we'd JUST put the pies in the oven so we ran around madly pulling them out of the ovens. Poured the filling in to the bowl, added the right amount of sugar (actually had enough filling now to make a pumpkin pudding casserole, too), and put the pies BACK in the ovens! They actually turned out pretty decently, and everyone seemed to enjoy our efforts!

I'm so glad I read these experiences.

I rushed into the store to pick up something while DD and DH waited in the car. As I left the store, I saw DD in the backseat, but didn't see DH. No matter, he's probably found some one to talk to and is not too far. I opened the car door to see this dog looking at me from the backseat. I quickly noticed our car parked beside the car with the dog, with DH laughing his butt off. When this look alike car parked beside ours the guy got out, leaving his dog in the front seat. DH started to bark at the dog to see if he could get a reaction out of the dog. To get away from the annoying DH, the dog climbed into the backseat. Then I climbed into the dog's cars front seat. So now it's confirmed, from the dogs viewpoint. Our whole family is strange. Poor dog.
