RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

I’m in the line now and I’m super annoyed at this whole process. We got here over 2 hours before park opening, got boarding group 53. Got called literally as we sat down for our candlelight processional dining package I booked in August. Ran back at 3:15, got in line waited 45 minutes and had to leave so we could make the candlelight processional. And literally zero of the 7 CMs I asked were willing to give me an estimate of how much longer we’d be waiting.

I’ll be visiting Guest services tonight to voice my displeasure.

I have heard boarding groups go into the 120s today. Not sure if they will get to the end or not.

They are on 73 now. Assuming minimal downtime I think they’ll get to 120 with 10 groups per hour. We are 109 and think we’ll get there for our 3rd ride.

Just rode with our paper FP. Total experience was 31 minutes and started all the way in the first preshow room.

Immediately got back in line with our anytime multi FP which does NOT send you into the FP line, but with the normal boarding groups. It was 25 minutes to preshow, which is where we started from with our paper FP. From there it was 18 minutes to our cell and 9 more minutes to finish the ride for a total experience time of 53 minutes.

It’s certainly not a friendly system for anybody with other plans the same day. You almost need to plan a flexible day. Those CMs also weren’t going to go out on a limb and provide answers they weren’t sure of.

Keep in mind though that the alternative was probably a 6+ hour wait including being cleared entirely from the queue a time or two and having to re-establish your position in line. I’m sure this provides little consolation on an otherwise very frustrating day though.

It is out last day here so we decided to brave the craziness.
We arrived a few minutes before 7 and got BG 48. Walked on RR and currently in lone for tam. We still have to go pack and drop bags at the RAC. We have a magical express time at 4:20.
Just praying for no breakdowns.
Just wanted to give an update. On the sad bus going to the airport. Our boarding group was called at 1:30. We were in line by 1:35 and exited at 2:25.
I am not a morning person or a Star Wars fan but this ride was unbelievable. Completely worth it to roll Out of bed at 6:30 to get a BG.
thank you to everyone who has kept this thread updated, it was very helpful.

I am thinking of using a Lyft to get to HS early one morning. Will I be able to get to HS at 5 in the morning or do I have to go somewhere close and walk a ways? Will the parking lots be open? I have never been to a park that much time before opening.
Yes there's a place to drop of people near the entrance. The parking lot has been opening at 4:30

This might’ve been mentioned before, if so I’m sorry. But why doesn’t Disney open every day at 6am for a couple of months, like they did in the fall? (Besides cost) There’s obviously more of a crowd now than there was then. It would most likely eliminate the need for the VQ. I know a lot people like it, but I’m sure a lot of people who are not on disboards or following all of this closely are probably confused & then angry when they realize they’ve missed their opportunity to use the VQ & can’t even wait in line for ROTR. Since they’re letting people in early already, might as well make 6am an official opening time. JMO.
Also, it looks awesome. Can’t wait to try & ride. 😃
The attraction is not at 100% reliability, this is their way of controlling how many people go through while still working out the kinks

No one knows times when things break down, you could ask these attraction engineer and they wouldn't be able to say.

What time did you actually get your boarding group # what boarding group did you end up with?

Currently in a very different Hollywood. We're going on Wednesday, my DD hasn't ridden it yet, unfortunately cm didn't get previews so she's excited. Still not sure if I'll attempt to go tomorrow but I'll keep you posted

Just an answer of yup, you definitely have more than 20 minutes left if everything runs perfectly would’ve been helpful.

In some ways this was harder for the kid as the coordinators outside assured me we’d be off in less thab an hour. This way the kid thought he was getting on, with a 6 hour line I would’ve just said nope.

Honestly, I'm shocked they're even allowing people to book a second BG. It seems like a no brainer to limit it to one per day, at least for the first few weeks.

I truly don't see the same day riders as any more unfair than people who have gone on multiple days, and in the future people who have done it weekly, etc. It would be more surprising to me if they limited it completely, TBH. They've never done that with an attraction before. There's always a way to get on something again and even though it sometimes means a lot of time or effort spent, Disney isn't stopping it from happening.

This is sort of what I'm worried about for my daughter's trip the first week of January. On their DHS day, the park is scheduled to open at 9:00. They have an Akershus ADR scheduled at 5:15 in Epcot. Before we knew about VQ, I told her that she'd probably have to show up by 7:00 and ride stand-by with a long line. Now I'm worried that with unannounced opening times there is a chance they may not get there early enough and end up with an evening boarding time that messes up their other plans.

@SouthFayetteFan is right...you almost need to schedule a completely flexible day. And, it's too bad that the Akershus ADR can't be canceled day-of if necessary.

The VQ is great...I just wish Disney would let you know what time they're going to open so you can make plans that work with all the other stuff you booked 180 and 60 days ago.

And, who knows how they'll be doing things in 4 weeks...might be totally different.

I'm not sure what would be worse...if I tell my college-aged daughter and her boyfriend that they need to get there at 6:00 am, and the gates don't open until 3 hours later; OR they get there closer to 8:00 and the park ends up opening at 6:00. :rotfl:

I think when you remember you're virtually standing in line, the need to have a very flexible day makes sense. It's not as if those who cannot ride until the late afternoon or evening would have been any better off with a physical stand by line. They still wouldn't have made it on. Of course they could have chosen not to get into it, or chosen to leave it, but nobody is forced to go back for their boarding group either if other plans are more important.

The frustrating part of all of this has been the up and down of the attraction, which seems to be what's causing a good chunk of the wait times. Disney really should have been upfront and called this a soft opening, they should have made it crystal clear that this thing is going to have down time throughout the day (not left that to media people and fan sites), and they could have saved themselves a bunch of the compensation as well.

Yeah I am going to say no especially if there are any other stoppages today. Thats why I was surprised they went back into the 120s today.

Any idea how they handled recoveries the first day? Were they automatic or did you have to talk to someone in person at the very end of the day?
