    Pay off our house?

At the time of payoff CDs were paying 1-2%. Savings accounts were maybe half a percent. We had a 15 year mortgage and I did the final payment in year 9 or 10. Besides if things go south quick and you need help, having 100k in your savings guarantees no help. Having a paid off house is a gray...

    Pay off our house?

We paid ours off with a 3% rate. On paper it didn’t make sense. But the security from doing it was priceless. If something bad happens we can live off one fast food wage.

    Travel in Retirement

I book as far in advance as I can because last minute stuff sets off my anxiety. We did a cruise, 17 days in London this year. We will be doing a week at Disney, 5 days at the beach, and 4 days at a different beach later this year. We’ve decided at 48 and 53, time is ticking. If the kid wants...

I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

I did my first credit card points thing, the IHG card. I paid $99 and I got enough points to cancel out my $1059 reservation next Feb. Now I need points to fly on American Airlines to Rome next April. It looks like we have several options for our timeframe from about 51-55k points. I saw the...

How much is your 2023 Disney vacation going to cost, or how much are you budgeting for it?

We are going in September. We’ve only camped one other time, in sept too. Heat doesn’t bother me as long as I have air moving.

BJ Wholesale gift cards and Discover

Has anyone used their Discover card this quarter to buy Disney gift cards? I know you get a 4-5% discount from BJ, but I was wondering about the 5% back on wholesale clubs Discover bonus. I’ve never double dipped like that (maybe I should start!) and I saw online I could get a free one day...

How much is your 2023 Disney vacation going to cost, or how much are you budgeting for it?

We haven’t been in six years and just decided to go back in September 😁 $970 6 nights at Music $840 2 adult 4 park tickets $125 gas - we were going to fly but my love of my coffee pot, pillow, snacks, premade food etc, beat out the hassle of driving. We will load the minivan down and roadtrip...

How do you determine your grocery budget?

My grocery column is only food items for the three of us. I track every purchase, not because I have to $$ wise, I want to be aware of where everything is going. That being said I did $100 a week for two adults and a teen in my budget book. I’m running several hundred dollars under for the year...

    Christmas Gifts for Teachers/Staff

We did Pals bucks this year. They were super cute and reminded me of Disney Dollars. Four main teachers and the music teacher all got $10 in a card.

    Home Temperature

65-67. But during the winter we get the sun at an angle in our bedroom that heats it up quite a bit.

    What's everyone cooking for Thanksgiving?

I got the free turkey meal from Ibotta this week. But it’s just the three of us, and I can cook that stuff anytime. I’m thinking about doing chickpea salad, lamb meatballs (if I can find lamb if not chicken shawarma), flat bread, and hummus.

Anyone else cutting back this Christmas?

Yes, the adults are not exchanging this year. We will (and my Mom) will still buy for DD. DD has a small gift for everyone and she will probably craft goodies for everyone.

Ladies - what is on your Christmas list

Keep in mind the adults aren’t doing presents this year. I’m getting a baby yoda coffee mug and a bag of cookies from my kiddo this year 😁

$400 monthly grocery budget for family of 4?

You know, how much you spend depends on where you live. We can do $100 pp per month no problem. But I can also get chicken and pork for $2 or less pp. Vegetables are rarely over $1 pp. Eggs are $1 or less, milk is $3. Have you made an inventory of your pantry? Look and see if certain expensive...

What are you buying on impulse?

Can I just say I love the Whopper choice? Our BK is the best one ever and that darn app keeps giving me deals on stuff. So so much BK consumed this year. I also marked cars. My odyssey was a planned purchase. Then I felt bad the hubs was driving a 17 year old van and I got him a CRV.

    Vacation tax credit?

I read the credit would extend to travel in 2021. If so we’ve talked about getting an annual pass Christmas 2021 and doing most of our Disney travel in 2022.

    Best vacuum for hardwood floors?

Sorry I just saw this. I have three roombas now. Two have bristle brushes on the bottom and they work better than the one I got with the rubber roller bar on the bottom. Things get caught in the rubber bar and I feel like it’s going to end up tearing.

Planning a Trip in 2020? Let's Share Our Budgets!

We also cancelled all our fun stuff for the year. DD missed three gymnastics meets, I cancelled a beach trip, and the Olympic trials were postponed. Our maybe May Disney trip was pushed to December. It’s a maybe too it just depends if parades and fireworks are back (not overly optimistic). The...
