    Breakfast buffets on Oahu?

Makana Lani is new and is popular with locals. The owner has operated restaurants in Hawaii for decades and this is her newest venture. https://www.makanalanihawaii.com/breakfast

    Food prices at Aulani INSANE

I was just in Wisconsin Dells this past October and even the food at Wilderness Lodge was about the same price as Aulani. We were at Aulani a couple weeks ago and the overall quality of the food at Aulani was far superior. If we're comparing restaurants outside the resorts, though, Hawaii...

Hi Everyone. New to Aulani and a couple questions regarding time of year, length of stay and room view

If you stay at Aulani, you'll need to plan your drives very carefully on weekdays. It'll take more time to drive from Aulani to Diamond Head on a Monday morning at 7am than it will to change hotels. Driving back to Aulani from 3pm-6pm is even worse, especially on Fridays. I live about 5...

    Waitlisted at Aulani

Extremely popular on weekends and school breaks. There are a lot of Disney-loving adults in Hawaii as well. I had a friends who worked in the DVC office prior to Covid, and she said locals and Japanese nationals make up a good chunk of Aulani owners.

    Waitlisted at Aulani

I think your odds are pretty good. I'm a local so I often put in a waitlist request for Fri-Sun stays in a studio. Weekdays should be even easier. Since Aulani reopened I've never NOT been able to get a room.

    Food prices at Aulani INSANE

I live on Oahu but just spent a couple weeks road tripping from Legoland New York to Minneapolis. Some areas were a little more expensive than Honolulu (but not Aulani) while others were significantly cheaper. We were forced to eat at McDonald's a couple of times to keep the kids happy, and...

Is the Lei Welcome and water in front of the hotel back?

Orchid leis have fluctuated wildly in price. Before the pandemic, they cost $5-$6/each at Long's. At the most, $8 during May. In the past couple of years, I've paid anywhere from $10-$20. $20 for an orchid lei is MIND BOGGLING for a local! I just needed to buy a couple of leis for my...

    Aulani newbie questions

The Gold Coast/Kaimana Beach area is worth checking out. You can walk to Waikiki, but you're far enough away from the hustle and bustle to relax. You can also take smaller roads through residential roads to/from the freeway and avoid Waikiki traffic.

Aulani "Hotel Room" vs. "Deluxe Studio"

I’m glad to hear they got rid of the Keurig and that the foliage has grown in. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms in 2017 and decided to switch to studios only, but this makes me reconsider possibly booking a hotel room in the future.

Aulani "Hotel Room" vs. "Deluxe Studio"

The studio has a bar sink, toaster, coffee maker, paper plates, wine opener, knife, and some other kitchen items. I think the hotel rooms have Keurigs, but there's mixed info on the microwaves. They definitely were included in the hotel rooms at one point, though. The hotel rooms have a...

Unfortunately disappointed compared to WDW resorts

Rooms booked with points are subject to the state and city TAT taxes, but the monetary value of points is significantly less than the monetary value of a cash stay. For example, if a 1BR stay is $1000/night, the state would assess a ~10% TAT and the city would assess a 4.712% GET and a ~3%...

traveling on Hawaiian state holiday - is it crazy?

You should be ok. Neighbor island travel will be affected but you shouldn’t see any difference if you’re flying in from the mainland. Aulani is always busy on three day weekends, but everyone will be checking out on that Monday and the resort should calm down by about 4pm. Kuhio day isn’t...

    Halloween at Aulani

Last year, there was a pumpkin scavenger hunt. There were also special Halloween-themed crafts (ie pipe cleaner spiders) and coloring pages in the Pau Hana lounge.

Question for locals or recent POA alums about Kahului (Maui) port

Lahaina is like a smaller, downscale version of Waikiki so yes, there is plenty to see. It’s very touristy which could be a pro or a con, depending on your travel style. Kaanapali is a short ride away if you run out of things to do in Lahaina. The traffic in/out of Lahaina can be horrendous...

Aulani in mid-June or late August?

Yes, there’s a difference. Schools here finish between Memorial Day and the first week of June and the locals staycation at Aulani. School starts early-mid August and there will be a noticeable difference in weekday crowds. Not just at Aulani but at many family-friendly businesses. I...

    Favorite Aulani Splurges

Short of private catering, La Mer is the bougiest dining experience you can have on Oahu - highly recommended. Michel's would be a good choice if you're looking for excellent food right on the beach at a lower price point. 53 by the Sea would be another romantic location and is indoors -...

Read lots of bad reports - is this true?

I'm not sure which site the OP saw but the reviews on TripAdvisor make Aulani sounds like a slum.

Read lots of bad reports - is this true?

I've stayed many times since Aulani reopened after covid (I'm local) and have always found the rooms to be clean and housekeeping to be on par with other Disney deluxe resorts in America. You might have different creepy crawlies if you leave your screen door open, but that's just part of...

Where is your favorite spot to get Poke?

I’m lucky enough to live about 4 blocks from one. And when Tamura’s is closed we go to Foodland. Costco is the worst - why do they cut the ahi in such large pieces!?!?

No Fireworks for the 4th in Aulani?

Kailua town will have a fireworks show and base access is not required. It will be very, very crowded and parking will be a problem.
