Waikiki/Aulani split--advice on days, Waikiki hotel?

For Waikiki I really loved the Royal Hawaiian. It’s a classic- built in 1927, and right on the beach. I was literally able to be in the water surfing in under 3 minutes from my room. If you like surfing or want to give it a try, Waikiki beach can be crowded, but the waves are gentle, and people...

Strategy: Renting DVC vs. booking a hotel room

Thank you so much. This perspective definitely helps. And yes, my in-laws are Aussies. I’m hoping that will work in our favor. It’s hard at the best of times to plan a vacation between people coming from two different countries, and it’s even crazier now that we are dealing with a pandemic and...

Strategy: Renting DVC vs. booking a hotel room

Yes, the view part I am willing to be flexible on: we are less sit back and relax types, and more go-go-go. I mostly want the cheapest room I can get myself into, but I’m sure I’m not the only one!

Strategy: Renting DVC vs. booking a hotel room

Thank you for the perspective! I hadn’t considered the fact that it may be worth the extra money to just have flexibility to cancel if things go pear shaped. I rented points for a stay at the Poly about 3 years ago, but the world wasn’t as uncertain as it is now.

Strategy: Renting DVC vs. booking a hotel room

Hi All! I’d love to pick the brains of some people that know what they’re doing when it comes to Aulani. My husband and I are seasoned travelers to both Disney resorts and the Hawaiian islands in general. I’ve visited Aulani as a day guest, but would really like to actually stay for a couple...

    The smell of Aulani

I’m wondering if there’s a good Magic Candle Co. scent that replicates it? It’s dreary and in the low 40s where I am right now, I definitely wouldn’t mind having an Aulani scented candle. Also, just a heads up for anyone that uses fragrance oils/diffusers etc. (I just wouldn’t feel that I was...

    Walt’s Frozen Body

FWIW, the “Walt is frozen” rumor is one that the family has publicly acknowledged as being really hurtful. I get that “Disney” now means so much more than a single man, but I really suggest a listen to the “Connecting With Walt” podcast as a reminder that Walt Disney was very much a real...

A Tale of Two Margaritas (Disney Springs)

I generally assume the differences between a $5 happy hour margarita, and a $15 margarita are twofold: 1) Quality of liquor 2) Using sweet and sour mixer vs. actual fresh squeezed juice. I’m at a point where I don’t really care about the “value” of a cocktail that tastes like Hi-C. I think...

Which restaurants have best Christmas theme during the holidays?

I would throw out anything in Wilderness Lodge is probably going to be a great bet. The PNW lodge theme is hard to beat when it comes to a Christmas vibe.

    Different perspective on park openings.

That’s very kind of you! ❤️ I’m bummed, but in some way it helps to know that it’s an issue the entire world is facing together, you know? I look forward to a day when we can all enjoy our trips again without fear, even if our visits do end up looking a bit different than they used to.

    Savage vs Steamboat

    I’m glad I’m not alone! 😂

    Different perspective on park openings.

I had an early June trip scheduled and had already canceled my hotel reservations a month ago. My mom is a physician and my uncle works for public health in a city that was hit hard by COVID-19...at this point even *if* the parks opened in June, I wouldn’t go. I got an email yesterday from...

    Savage vs Steamboat

Steamboat Willie would crush him. Cartoons have the advantage of physics not applying to them.

    Butterbeer!

Hey all, My twin and I are heading to Universal in 3 days for HHN and to live out all of our Gryffindor dreams. We are STOKED! We’re of course interested in tasting nearly every form of Butterbeer on offer, but we haven’t been able to find a definitive answer on whether or not the hot version...

    Official 2019 HHN-29 Thread

Thanks for the reply! We are actually planning for weekdays in September, so this sounds super promising. Do you have any extra pointers for HHN newbies? Something not to be missed? We love everything spooky and we are SO stoked this is finally happening for us! Definitely a bucket list item.

    Official 2019 HHN-29 Thread

Hi guys! My twin and I are pretty much brand new to Universal (I’ve been once almost 10 years ago). For YEARS we have been obsessed with the idea of going to HHN, and this year, it’s finally happening! Due to our work schedules, we have a limited amount of time, but we decided to grab the BOGO...

    Disneyland show?

My personal opinion re:hotel reviews. I would MUCH rather go in prepared to be disappointed and then be pleasantly surprised, than the opposite. I’ve stayed in a variety of hotels at a variety of price points. Everything from Motel 6 to a lodge in Kenya where the room’s previous occupants...

I’m pretty sure you can find it at Storybook Treats in the Magic Kingdom. :)

    Is Cali Grill overrated?SideSA

I’ve done a light dinner there (a cocktail and sushi), and it’s pretty expensive for what you get. That being said, when we booked, we did it already knowing that we were totally going for the ambience (I love MCM design) and the fireworks. We had a really nice time. Was it the best food I’ve...

Who's looking forward to new Toy Story Land?

Yep, I understand that wasn’t the intended location. :) And re: your second paragraph, that is exactly my point. A lot of the lands that thematically don’t work for me CAN be traced back to budget cuts. DCA 1.0 as whole is a prime example of this. They spent tons of money reworking that park...
