    Separating Finances when Married

We have manage separate accounts, but we are both on them. Neither of us wanted to give up our banks. Neither of us are big spenders and we have common goals. He has bills that are mostly 'fixed' and I have the fluctuating things. We have never argued over money and if one is in a 'bind' the...

Two week gluten, dairy, sugar detox...it gets better right

Last year I needed to remove gluten and lots of other items from my diet. I did not feel awful during the process, probably because the food I was eating was causing me to feel awful. Think daily headaches/migraines with upset stomach off and on. Hopfully your body adjusts quickly. It could be...

    gluten free eating

I was diagnosed with a long list of sensitivities 11 weeks ago. If corn, white potato, certain nuts and yeast were not on the list it would have been less frustrating at the beginnin, most gluten free items are corn or potato based. I cook a lot at home and really prefer to not go to...

    A question for diabetics

I was diagnosed with diabetes through a non-traditional tolerance test. It was a 1hr vs the typical 2 or 3 hr. Turns out my A1C is typically in the normal range, but I hit lows and lose my sight, get shakey and lose color in my face. I had the syptoms years before being diagnosed, because...

    skipping xmas

We 'skipped' it for 2 years. We were home this year, but did set 'guidelines' to ensure we stayed away from the drama. My girls love going away and if you ask them what they would rather do, it is take a trip...doesn't matter that we take 'mini' trips 9 months out of the year. We will be...

    My kids have me wondering...

This year we spent more than usual, the girls have wanted a couple items for several years that weren't in our 'range' and have been very understanding so we 'splurged' this year. Typically it is $300 each, 2 kids (15 and 12). My oldest has a birthday day after, so she ends up with more over...

So... what jobs, if any, still get a holiday bonus?

Manager's get a yearly stock bonus if they meet or exceed goes, usually in July/August I think. Everyone gets a Christmas Box, items very each year. Others get stock bonus if they do something far above an beyond and are nominated for it, hard to get.

What's the purpose behind Christmas gift.

Honestly, most are because I truly want to give the gifts in rememberance of the eternal gift I was given. There are some that I feel obligated to give.

Teachers: What gifts did you receive?

I opened this thread hoping to get ideas for teachers next year, but it appears to have gone off track :( I did not take this a bragging or anything other than just general conversation. As a parent, with my daughters have up to 10 teachers a year, it is hard to buy for all. I made a dessert...

    Pumpkin Pie Mix

I use the mix in my pumpkin bread recipe. I just don't add the spices (I usually add more pumpkin pie spice) and take the water out of the recipe. You can use the mix in most recipes that call for pumpkin, you just have to figure out what to 'remove'.

Would you send your child to school after a security scare?

Yes, even before the school would call to say 'threats' have been investigated and measures taken. I have not kept them home yet due to them.

Diabetic filled cupcakes and filling for other cupcakes?

Is the cupcakes portion low carb? Carbs turn to sugar. If the cupcakes aren't low carb then I am not sure what you put in the middle matters as much since they are still getting sugar in a different form. Sorry, just a little thing I get frustrated with. I see so many diabetics eat lots of...

Sensitive Question - How much to donate at church?

I personally believe in giving the 10% before tax and if an individual isn't currently able to do that then they can give more of their time. We did not start at 10%, we slowly got their with each raise we got. We have no regrets and our tithing is not part of any 'cut back discussions' when...

Toying with the idea of Dollywood

While we have been to that area over 40 times, this past weekend was our first trip that included Dollywood. Several of their rides are water rides, those probably would not be running at that time. Probably depends on the weather as to weather you want to be on a roller coaster or not, may be...

    Dealing with Family

When I would host Thanksgiving my brother always did the dishes. I was always so thankful for that and he seemed to enjoy doing his part. It allowed me to clean up faster and enjoy everyone's company. My family knew that no one was to be in the kitchen before dinner, but was always welcome to...

Anyone have an old iPod Nano? If so, read this.

@tammymacb-there was a recall number they told you to keep. That is how you see where you are in the process. @tinkerbellandeeyor-the website link shows the photo. Was on teh fence as to whether to send mine back or not..rarely use it. Just decided to request the new one. Hope I don't...

    Amazon Prime?

I had to figure this out yesterday. First, as others have said, you have to view it from your kindle. Second, the lending library doesn't come up till after you are viewing the book on the full screen on the kindle. I am still trying to decide if I want to keep the membership once the...

    Flexible Spending Question--DH quitting job

Our company started the FSA plans several years ago. We were told that if we left the company prior to contributing the full amount, but had spent the full amount we would be expected to pay what had not yet been paid in. I do believe they will take the first payment from his paycheck in...

Christmas gifts for garbageman and newspaper delivery person

I have never given gifts to either. Our local paper is delivered by kids and we tip them during their monthly collections since you never know when a new kid will take the route over.
