Disney Gift Cards are accepted in WDW, Disneyland and DCL. The only place it doesn't get widely accepted is at many of the locations at Disney Springs

I think that the OP concern is that the money is now tied up to a gift card that they have to wait for to arrive. She had unexpected expenses and hence the change in reservation. I think her husband is calling back to try to get that money tied in the gift card credited to the new reservation...

As far as I know the same is true for this event.

As pp said, keep an eye on the EMH up to the day before and plan to be there early. Book fastpasses for the rides your friends want to enjoy while in the park. If they arrive at rope drop then they will have the choice to enjoy the morning show in front of the castle or start heading to the area...
