    Off-property solo-friendly activities?

I typically travel solo to WDW (around Marathon weekend) and primarily stay within the Disney bubble the entire time. I'd like to branch out and try some other activities to add some variety to my trips. Recently I've been renting a car so I can get myself to any location nearby. Does anyone...

    Marathon Weekend 2021

I'm all for staying optimistic these days, but as more time passes my own optimism about Marathon Weekend is fading. At this point even if runDisney decides to proceed with the event I'm not sure I would consider it safe enough to justify the risk.

    Marathon Weekend 2021

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that runDisney decides to cancel the Marathon Weekend soon. I've been doing the planning and training so far in case it does happen, but it would be such a relief to me to no longer be facing the decision of whether to go or not. In my opinion with flying, the...

    Marathon Weekend 2021

Does anyone think there is an ethical question involved when considering whether to register for Marathon Weekend in January? I'm thinking specifically of how the weekend can only help spread COVID-19. Currently, I'm planning to register as soon as it opens, but I have my doubts about how...

    Marathon Weekend 2020

Does anyone who has attended Marathon Weekend before, preferably doing more than one race, have any experience with staying out late the night before a race? I've attended many Marathon Weekends and so far I've been diligent about getting to bed nice and early, but there's some after hours...

    Marathon Weekend 2020

I am doing the Dopey Challenge again this year so that Jan 9th After Hours at Animal Kingdom would majorly disrupt my schedule for the 10k. Nevertheless I'm still tempted because I did it during this year's marathon weekend and it was great. I was able to ride FoP 5 times that evening. Maybe I...

    Can we talk shoes?

Brooks Ghost GTX (Gore-Tex) running shoes. All the comfort of a cushioned running shoe plus the water protection of Gore-Tex. I typically visit WDW in January so I find having a Gore-Tex shoe a safe bet with the colder/wetter weather.

    What’s in your bag?

If I can get by without a bag then that's my preference. On days when I'm over-paranoid about the weather I pack a rain jacket in my bag. If I can't avoid bringing my bag then I also toss in a few water bottles because I like to have water when I need it right away. Everything else I need I keep...

Best spot to relax on a calm day?

When visiting The World during a day when there's no need to rush from ride to ride (possibly due to not bringing kids along) where do you like to sit down, relax, and just take in the atmosphere? For me it is at Dawa Bar in Animal Kingdom. I traveled there solo this past January and was able...

Torn between refurbished room and saving money

I've scoured the forums and read all the reviews of the different value resorts so I think I have a pretty good idea on the pros/cons of each. I've seen the refurbished rooms at POP and AS:Movies and until today I was excited to spend a bit extra to get a guaranteed newer room at POP for my...

    First time running January 5k

I've only ever been to WDW during the marathon weekends in January and I've had a blast every time. The 5k has perhaps the highest fun-to-challenge ratio of all the races that weekend. It starts later than the other races so you can sleep in a bit more and there's less stress involved overall...

    Grand Californian Solo

I did decide to keep my reservation and stay at the GCH. I enjoyed the experience very much. My room was on the fifth floor and had a great view of Grizzly Peak. I took advantage of the proximity every day to take breaks and rest in between races. I ate at Storytellers Cafe once for dinner and...

    Disney with the brakes on

I've only ever gone to WDW for the marathon weekends which I've done solo. Since my primary reason for going are the races which can be stressful and tiring I spend the rest of my time there resting and leisurely touring the parks. There are still many attractions I haven't experienced due to my...

    Grand Californian Solo

Thanks for the advice. Since labor day weekend is so close my only choices on where to stay are the GCH or a Good Neighbor hotel I also have a reservation for. There's a significant price difference between the two and I'm currently debating between frugality and "magic". I'm not a local, but...

    Grand Californian Solo

I've been to DL solo a few times in recent years for different race weekends. This year I'm going solo again for the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend (labor day) and on impulse I booked a room at the GCH for four nights during a recent 20% off promotion. I mainly made the reservation because I...

Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

I'm registered for both the half and the 5k. I spent ten minutes clicking the register button at the top of the page before realizing I then had to click on one of the races to actually register. Oh well, at least I'm in, although I haven't received my confirmation email yet.

Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

I really want to do this race (did the DL half last year and it was fun), but can't afford to make much of a vacation out of it. Is anyone else flying in and staying for just one night just to run the half? I'm trying to decide if the expense of it all is worth it for so little park time. Since...

    Dopey 2015 Official Thread

I'm in. This past Dopey was my first visit to WDW and only my second full marathon. I traveled solo and didn't mind the limited park time or early wake-up calls. For me the true value of the Dopey challenge is keeping me motivated to run throughout the year. At this point a single event just...

    Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I haven't heard about this. Is there a rumor going around about some kind of marathon weekend/DCL cruise tie-in?

Not happy with MarathonFoto at the moment.

I too had major problems with MarathonFoto after the Dopey this year. I ordered their digital premium pack which was supposed to come with all my photos from all four races plus their extra "race highlight" photos. It took over a week of emails and phone calls to their customer service to...
