    The Running Thread--2024

Let me know when you have 7 out of 8 days below zero and I may start having some sympathy for you. :P

    The Running Thread--2024

Running goals for me are marathon PR at Grandma's and losing at least 10lbs this year. Been working on coming back from a pinched sciatic never, and it's been a slow grind. So also working on including more strength training in general to try to prevent future injury.

Baloo is finding his Bare Necessities of life (Comments Welcome)

Good luck tomorrow! I’m running the Stillwater half tomorrow morning, and am having similar uncertainties. I was training for a 1:40 and the wheels fell off the last few weeks when the toddler brought some death disease home from his cesspool…I mean daycare.

And your sunglasses too I hope!! Waking up at 6:30 doesn't sound like a luxury to me. ATTQOTD: I run whenever I can squeeze it into my schedule. I was once upon a time a get up and run early in the morning, and then COVID and work from home happened so I decided since I don't have to leave...

    Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD: I rode it three times over marathon weekend, though totally jealous of my six year old who for to ride it six times thanks to rider swap and a toddler brother. But "One Way or Another" was definitely my favorite of the ones I experienced.

Or just drag him along to the DIS board meets. That's what I've done to my brother at both Dopey's I've done.

I live in the land of wind and ice/snow as well and have never once found a treadmill necessary. Treadmills are absolutely demon spawn, and I will avoid them like the plague. I couldn't even tell you the last time I was on a treadmill.

April Miles: Miles: 219.34 Time: 32:40:33 Pace: 8:56/mile This marks a new record for most miles in a month. Some tough workouts, but feeling strong less than 4 weeks from the Stillwater Half Marathon.

    Marathon Weekend 2024

Only place I’ve ever really run on property, outside of races, is around the Port Orleans resorts when we had to go down a day early this year for marathon weekend. It was a pretty place to run.

    The Running Thread—2023

ATTQOTD: I always played track and cross country in high school, but didn’t really enjoy it. I did them because…. long story. My brother did the inaugural Dopey and I my mouth saying I could beat all his times, because… what else does a big brother do. I started teasing for the 2017 Dopey, bad...

Good luck with Fargo. Should be a fast one. I know you were considering Twin Cities this fall, is that still on the books for you. I just finally registered for it last week.

How did you not sweat to death?! It was 50 here too and I almost took my shirt off halfway through.

I'm with @prncssjas, the less clothing the better. That doesn't always work living in the frozen tundra of Minnesota, but even on the coldest days I put on the least amount possible. It's rare that I start a run without a shirt, but not unusual for it to come off mid-run on really hot days...

What races do you love (not necessarily Disney) and why?

I'll add another vote for Twin Cities Marathon. Great crowd support and a fun course with a nice downhill finish. Also really love Grandma's Marathon along the north shore of Lake Superior. It's a truly beautiful course, pretty flat and fast as well. And back in your home state @prncssjas I...

    Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD: Running the marathon during Dopey this year. It holds two places in my heart. 1. It was the official completion of Dopey for me. My first attempt was in 2017 when the half was cancelled. 2. Most importantly, I finally broke 4 hours in the marathon. I had trained through a pretty brutal...

    The Running Thread—2023

I use Garmin to track all my runs and then have them sync to Strava. I like that I can program my distances and pacing into my watch and have that help me track during a run. I use that Wisconsin guy to plan my runs too. I transfer his plan to my own Google Sheet file and cross them off there...

    The Running Thread—2023

ATTQOTD: I run six days a week, with Wednesdays off. Coach Billy his me doing three easy runs, two strength/speed runs, and a long run per week. I keep telling myself I need to add strength training in, and make attempts to before life gets in the way.

    Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD: The only "off" season I take is 1-2 weeks post race to recover. If I don't have a next race on the schedule it will become a permanent off season. I try to space out my "A" races so I can build back up and work on gains. I like to have a race ever 12-20 weeks depending on what races are...

    The Running Thread—2023

January 2023 Running Distance: 92.73 miles Running Time: 15:09:41 Average Running Pace: 9:49/mile Not terrible considering I took two whole weeks off after Dopey. Would've liked to hit 100 miles for the month, but those numbers will come starting in February as my training for my next race...
