Really?? The night safari was probably my favorite part of my last visit! I guess that's pretty subjective though. Still! Pandora and the Tree of Life are definitely at their best after sun-down.

Animal Kingdom all-around is just a better park at night. Almost wish they'd shift the hours a little to reflect that. Tree of Life is better at night, Pandora is better at night, the safari is better at night...

This sums it up perfectly. At worst Test Track is jerky and annoying, at it's peak it's just a car on a highway. There's much better uses of your time in the park. If you want to know what you missed by not riding the ride stick your head out the window next time you're riding passenger.

Sort of. While technology has progressed, each 3d asset is still modeled by an artist which takes time (and thus money). It's more efficient just to reuse assets. But you're right, the convincing part of the theory is definitely the placement of the objects.
