Fort Wilderness (and general camping) Etiquette

SO true!!! We were once in a hybrid camper (fabric bunk ends), and our Fort neighbor (across from us) had an LED firework projection show, complete with firework sound effects, going all night long. I finally walked over and unplugged it the second night at 12 AM. We have also had neighbors...

Fort Wilderness (and general camping) Etiquette

Haha... no. It's Disney. The kids run this place. That's obnoxious and completely unnecessary. But thanks for imposing your desire to illuminate the world onto your neighbors. I'm sure it's (not) appreciated. Thank you for clearly placing yourself in the category that "rules don't apply to...

Fort Wilderness (and general camping) Etiquette

Good afternoon, fellow Disney and FW aficionados. We are frequent Fort campers, and longtime WDW annual pass holders. We have been visiting the Fort for more than 36 years, and we have amassed more stays that I would care to admit. In recent years, there has been a rise in younger families (of...

    Fort Early Arrival (5 AM)

Actually more simple than that - want to make most of the trip while the kids are sleeping. :) I would probably avoid heading back to the campsite until after 9 AM or 10 AM anyway. Parking in overflow would allow for us to take a bus to breakfast and return for campsite set-up later in the day...

    Fort Early Arrival (5 AM)

Good morning, campers! We're headed down to the Fort this weekend. By my estimates, we should be arriving into the Orlando area around 5 AM on Sunday morning (we've requested to check-in @ 12 PM). Does anyone have experience with being allowed into the overflow parking/campsites that early in...

    AP discount?

Fort Wilderness very much offers Military discounts (on the cabins). We routinely get a cabin around $230/nt with a military discount. As a side note, Shades of Green is no where near the quality or amenities of the Disney operated properties.

    Trip Prep Advice?

We live just northwest of ATL, and we routinely make the day trip down to the Fort (usually 5-6 times a year). When we had a tow-behind, it would take us 8-9 hours (figuring in food/fuel/flush stops with the kids). With the new motorhome, we average 60-65 MPH, 7-9 MPG and about 8 hours (the...

When oh when oh wise ones.

It really depends on what you want to do. We always go down for Easter, and stay out of the parks. The Fort is empty during the days during those busy times. It's great!

    Hands Free in Georgia

Isn't that the truth. Don't speed in Virginia and don't use your phone in Georgia. Now if only Georgia would reopen some of their rest areas along I-75! Sure could use the break sometimes.

    Canoe or Kayak

We canoed in FW a few years back. The last several times we have been there, I have not seen any canoes/kayaks in the water. I was curious if the alligator attack from two years ago halted the activities. When we canoed last, we saw an entire family capsize their canoe, loose multiple personal...

    Tent camping...in September...tips?

We have tent camped in Fort Wilderness, during the month of September, twice. The first time was quite cool and comfortable. The second time was extremely hot. Fans and AC units will keep you comfortable at night, but head for the cooled indoors during the mid-afternoon heat. There really is no...

Fort Wilderness better be worth 100K

$100k for a Maserati... I'll never understand it. Fort Wilderness is "worth" whatever you make of it. It's been a family retreat for us since the late 70's. The Fort's value to us are the memories that have been made there.

Campsites and Disney Visa 0% financing

We have found our Disney Visa card only useful for the exclusive character meet-n-greet (EPCOT) and occasional merchandise/dining promotions. The 0% interest rate is rather misleading (and doesn't even apply to their cruises)! We never book "packages" since we are annual pass holders.

    I-75 Campgrounds North of Atlanta

That's the truth. We headed down to WDW one time @ 4 AM (in hopes of missing the ATL traffic). We sat on the downtown connector (75/85 South) for almost 1.5 hours for a major accident and construction.

    I-75 Campgrounds North of Atlanta

We live just above ATL on I-75 (Acworth/Kennesaw area). Everything said about ATL traffic and commuting times are true. If you do stop on the northside (along 75), I recommend Red Top Mountain State Park or McKinney Campground (Army Corps Campground). Both are an easy on/off from 75, and about...

The Fort in July Pre TR & TR

We will be down June 29th - July 6th. This will be the first WDW trip for the new coach (Jayco 29MV), so we're excited. Thank goodness we sprung for the dual air conditioners! We're going to need them.

    break in attempt

This should still be reported to Disney. The amount of surveillance on property would astound you, and if left unreported, the vandals will more than likely try again... perhaps on one of our coaches. Please let Disney know about this event (your site number, date of incident, etc.) so that...
