Current owners: Do you feel that renters are impacting resort availability?

Per that article, solved captchas cost between $1 and $5 per thousand. So maybe an extra $20/day, in exchange for reliably booking as many low-cost/high-margin rooms as you can? That's in the noise.

Current owners: Do you feel that renters are impacting resort availability?

I’ve said this before, but some of my students use a bot to try to join my office hour queue as soon as it opens. Rather than try to stop them, I open it, leave it open for a few minutes, then randomize it. I also have a priority scheme that gives preference to students who have not been helped...

Current owners: Do you feel that renters are impacting resort availability?

No it wouldn’t. Mechanical Turk makes solving them very cheap. https://www.f5.com/company/blog/how-cybercriminals-bypass-captcha

Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

How dare they give guests what they want! The audacity!

How many members of your family have drivers licences?

Four for four. Both of my kids got licenses within maybe six months of turning 16. We lived in a place that was not particularly well-served by public transit, and we did not want to continue to have to get them to swim practice at 5:30 AM.

Current owners: Do you feel that renters are impacting resort availability?

Commercial renters focus on the rooms that combine the highest margin with the lowest "out the door" price. Those tend to be studios in the lowest view categories at a handful of resorts. But, those rooms tended to go first anyway, and were IMO always a bit of a crapshoot. If you are truly okay...

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

I am a Cedar Point passholder, and have been for decades. Their current iteration of paid-skip is expensive, but it does not work "way better". The standby lines for Maverick and Steel Vengeance move glacially slowly, and on a busier day so does Millennium Force. Valravn and Raptor have good...

    Beyond Big Thunder

I'm not sure how they did it, but somehow Slinky is almost entirely forceless. It looks like it should be more exciting--they even have that run of bunny hills after the 2nd launch--but somehow it just isn't. My coaster-dork daughter pronounced it one-and-done.

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

When I say there is no problem to solve, I mean from Disney's point of view. Attendance is fine and revenue is up.

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

True. But, there is no problem to solve here. G+ has been around for two and a half years now. Domestic attendance is doing just fine, and revenues are up in part because of G+. People might not like it as much as "included" but they are still coming, and many are paying the extra for the service.

Am I being too judgy judgy about owners who rent prolifically?

"Sure! It will cost you $5/pt."

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

One difference between that and G+ is that Disney will sell G+ to anyone.

At What Age Do You Not Replace a Dog?

I think the time not to get another dog is when you think to yourself "I don't really want another dog." But, this sounds like a loaded observation: That really depends on who it is, what their opinion is, and why. I will say that as much as I loved having a pet, I also love that I'm at a...

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

See, that's exactly what I am thinking. It's really a near-meaningless amount in the context of a Disney vacation. Yet it is a HUGE DEAL to a lot of people. I don't know how to explain that other than "It just means more." We didn't have nearly this much discussion over the short-lived resort...

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

See my followup post: It's not the reality of it, it is the messaging. “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others” I'm not sure how else you can explain the vitriol because you are right--it's not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things.

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

I think it is less about ability (or not) and more about what it means as a more obvious signal of "not everyone here is equal." There are lots of such signals, but most of them are not quite this visible and certainly not this ubiquitous. Full disclosure: I am (at best) an armchair social...

DAS Outrage vs Genie Plus Outrage?

This is actually a very interesting observation. In a certain segment of US culture, a Disney trip is a childhood rite of passage. And for some corners of that population, repeated Disney trips are a marker of status. As a related example: A good chunk of my childhood predated airline...
