What is the value for you in ABD trips?

I agree with all of the comments above... I think being able to enjoy international travel with young kids without stress was a big benefit when our kids were younger. We were also able to get connecting rooms at almost every hotel we have stayed with on an ABD (again a plus with younger kids)...

Rhine cruise questions/pre-night and post-night recs?

We are booked for the Rhine river cruise in July, planning to get into Switzerland 3-4 days before the cruise starts from Basel (probably staying around Interlaken). 1) Any tips for taking the train to Basel and getting to the cruise terminal? 2) We are debating about flying back from...

Has anyone tried back to back trips?

We have not - but in 2019 while on the Canada ABD, I met another guest who had done Viva Italia and Bella Italia back to back in 2018 with her daughters. It sounded pretty straightforward since it was all in one country. I would anticipate Ireland and Scotland would be similar.

    Hotel in Barcelona

Great question… I don’t know - perhaps the hotel concierge could help?

ABD Newbie! Tips for Europe May 2024

We have done two Italy ABD trips as well. I agree with the comments above that the Viva Italia ABD is fantastic with too many highlights to mention. For your first ABD, and especially with your younger children - the Italy/Switzerland ABD may be worth a close look. We did that one when our...

Is concierge boarding in Barcelona the same as Florida?

We are taking the cruise from Barcelona to Southampton this summer and I was wondering if anyone knew the procedure for Concierge class booking in Barcelona. Does it start at 11am?

DIY or recommendations for ABD-esque Stonehenge Bath escape?

We are taking a Disney cruise this summer from Barcelona to Southampton. We are scheduled to do the Barcelona ABD escape before the cruise but have a day after the cruise finishes in Southampton before flying back to the US. We are interested in seeing Stonehenge and Bath - I was wondering if...

    Canadian Rockies reviews?

Our family did the Canadian Rockies ABD in 2019. This was the only ABD we have ever done without a US guide... in 2019 they had 4 guides, all were Canadian and they ran the trip in pairs back to back from late June to August. We went in July and the weather was chilly - it rained on the...

Looking for advice - to cancel myself, or wait for ABD to cancel?

We were in a similar situation for the Japan ABD in 2022... PIF date was approaching and they hadn't announced that our adventure would be canceled (which should have been a no-brainer given Japan hadn't yet reopened). I called them the day before PIF date and got verbal confirmation that it...

New Zealand Dec. 25 2022 report

This place looked neat, I wished we could have gone there but Eat Street was closed on Christmas Day so we missed this adult dinner/junior adventure night. Instead, our guides coordinated Christmas Dinner at the hotel instead with a White Elephant gift exchange. I think I ate enough lamb on...

    Adriatic Expedition cruise

but it’s also a bigger ship… so fuel costs should be offset by more guests no?

    Adriatic Expedition cruise

I asked one of the New Zealand guides (who had guided on the River cruises previously) on our trip last month why there was such a big price difference between this and the River cruises - she couldn’t really give me a good answer.

New Zealand Dec. 25 2022 report

On the 12/22 adventure we lucked out with the weather and the America's Cup sailing was pretty fun, everyone who wanted to got to try "sailing". For breakfast at the Park Hyatt (and everywhere for that matter) it can take time for some meals to arrive given the staffing challenges. I also...

New Zealand Dec. 25 2022 report

Thanks for sharing this point - we were on the 12/22 trip and thought this would have been a tight connection as well from what we had read about the AKL airport configuration (let alone all the stress of flying nowadays). We ended up missing the e-bikes and farewell dinner in order to fly...

Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or New Zealand?

I’d vote for NZ and agree with your comments about the flights to SE Asia vs. NZ. We went a few weeks ago on the 12/22 NZ trip and really enjoyed the summer weather in New Zealand. New year’s in Queenstown in amazing as well. Auckland may be a bit quiet though over new years with some many...

New Zealand October-November 2022 Trip report

Thanks for the shoutout! It was great meeting you! @Travel junkie and I took your advice and did the Sky Walk on one of our pre-days. Our boys also enjoyed the All-Blacks experience by the Sky Tower if anyone is looking for activities within the walking distance of the hotel. For the 12/22...

    New Zealand AbD meets

Here are some more recommendations from someone in the know: Dining o Soul Bar & Bistro (Get a reservation…this is my favorite restaurant in town. I ate here twice. Delicious!) o Oyster and Chop (If I remember correctly, you are vegetarian but the salads here are so good.) o Good Luck...

    New Zealand AbD meets

We are on the 12/22 one but we are planning to check out the SkyTower, the All Blacks rugby experience near the SkyTower, the Maritime museum and the Britomart/take the train to the Auckland war museum

ABD or Med Cruise if the focus is Italy?

We did the ABD Italy in 2018, haven’t done the cruise. I felt like we definitely spent adequate time in Rome - we went to the Vatican twice, once during the day and once for the after hours tour/private Sistine Chapel. For the Colosseum we went for roughly an hour (part of day-long walking...
