I have had good luck calling in the afternoons on a Thursday or Friday. I call about 1 PM pst (so 4 PM in est) and have gotten through in 20-30 minutes each time.

Very low mileage here. About 3-4K per year. I work from home full time and everything I need is within about 10-15 minute drive. Even Disneyland is only about 20-25 minutes away. I often have weeks my car does not move at all from Monday-Friday if I have no errands or appointments in those weeks.

Like others, our renewal was super easy. Filled out the form online and had re-approvals and extended date within 24 hours. I would renew sooner rather than later. The new date will be 5 years from the original end date, so renewing early will not lose you days on your first one.
