Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

And here is another one I saw today...and I do not think it was Disney who invented this. :goodvibes Note that this concept goes much higher than 220 miles up. Space elevator rides to the moon are possible using today’s technology...

Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

A timely article relevant to this thread I started. Article is from Popular Mechanics published this week. The "fall to Earth because of gravity" scenario in this article is from 135,899 ft - about 26 miles up. Same thing applies at 220 miles up. "So, You Want to Skydive from Space?" -...

Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

Well. I am not sure whether to give a serious answer as I am not sure this is a serious question! Assuming the question is serious - or at least quasi-serious - in principle one could build a space elevator if they had a material strong enough. I am not a materials specialist so will not go...

While I do not find it "offensive", I agree with what you are saying about stories and rules within those stories. That is what makes good and bad stories, even if they are fantastical in nature. For the record for other forum readers, as the OP of this thread I can say I did not write it to...

And I will also say that the concept of "space elevators" of some sort have been discussed for many decades. So Disney is just playing off this concept.

I would say it is worth doing once. We were two adults. I would not prioritize it in the future.

In answer to the food question, we decided to mostly focus on appetizers and drinks as our ADR was for 3PM and not during a regular meal time. We thought it was so-so. One of the drinks my DW tried she thought was awful and sent it back for a different drink.

A DLR Guide for WDW Vets

I have been on the WDW forums a bit in the last few months. I am not very excited about some of the changes at Disney parks (and how it makes it harder to visit) and at Disney in general. I hope Disney can get things fixed. I have never liked Chapek since I first saw and heard him at a D23...

A DLR Guide for WDW Vets

I used G+ at WDW a few weeks ago. I cannot say anything about DLR G+. It sounds a lot like like the old DLR MaxPass which I did use and liked. On the WDW MDE app Disney has a lot of kinks in their system that is making a lot of folks really angry. If you read the WDW forum there is a lot of...

Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

The view is not really "of Florida" but "from above Florida". You see a large part of the USA and the blue haze along the earth surface is very cool. No, no one got their 22,000 and 220 mixed up. The view from 22,000 would be very different. A changing view would be cool but that could not be...

Not sure what you are asking. The 22,000 mile altitude is for geostationary orbit. In Low Earth Orbit you need a much higher orbital velocity to maintain a stable orbit.

Yes. But then Space 220 would be orbiting the Earth every 90 minutes or so. And not stationary over Central Florida. That would be cool, but would require constant adjustments of the view out the Space 220 windows to maintain realism. And the artificial gravity would definitely be needed!

Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

The satellites in low earth orbit are traveling at 17,000 mph in a circular orbit around the earth. In simple terms, this gives them a centrifugal acceleration of V*V/r. At just the right velocity, V, this acceleration will balance that from gravity. This is what makes a stable orbit. It feels...

Yah, and Disney could have their very own "vomit comet"! https://www.space.com/37942-vomit-comet.html

Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

Space 220 is not really "in orbit". It is attached to an elevator. Since in reality gravity would pull it down, it is only geostationary in the sense that the elevator is supporting it and keeping it up there. It moves at the same velocity as the earth surface (well, slightly higher because of...

Sorry to be so geeky, but Space 220 has gravity all wrong

I did a quick search to see if any fellow geeks out there had mentioned this already and did not see any threads on it. I was fortunate to get an ADR for Space 220 last Saturday. My first time there. The whole experience is really cool. But they have their physics wrong! Any other tech geeks...

ROTR ride elements not working recently? *** Contains Spoilers ***

I noticed four ride elements not working properly on ROTR recently. I did not see an existing thread where I could put this - especially with spoilers - so I created a new one here. I am just checking with others whether this is a new thing or been going on a long time at DHS. I am basing this...

Not yet. I have been gone for 2 weeks and am playing catchup at work and barely had time to write this here. But I will.

The Genie Usage, Tips and Strategy ONLY Thread

It was worth it for us because we wanted to sleep later that morning and not rush out for rope drop. I guess it depends which day you are there but it was a sold out day so I assume it is considered as a crowded day. If we had made EPTE rope drop we could have done easily TT through Standby...
