Another famous "taking your kids out of school" thread ..

Last year before the true Algebra sequence math starts even in the lower level classes. Most places 7th grade advanced (which is usually most A/B students) is Pre-Algebra and then some places the most advanced are already starting the HS curriculum with Algebra I. Particularly if a child is in...

Another famous "taking your kids out of school" thread ..

So former teacher here. I taught sixth grade in both an elementary and a middle school and let me tell you the culture around things like finals, placement, etc. is very different in middle v. elementary even when it's the same grade level. Math particularly steps up in middle school with kids...

    "Doggie Bags?"

We've done it. We've also ordered dessert to go when on the dining plan and had it back in the room later that night.

Telling your family: We won't be home for Christmas, We're going to Disney!

Here's the thing that actually may make it harder on them. They may see it as we wanted to celebrate making it to Christmas. I lost an aunt to cancer and it was super important to my grandma that everyone be together the Christmas before and after her passing. They were tough, but she valued...

Anyone started Christmas shopping, or even thinking about Christmas yet.

I tend to shop year around except we draw names around October for the adults on my husband's side of the family. I picked up a few things for our niece, nephew, and goddaughter during the big Disney Store sale last month, and that was probably the first thing really earmarked for Christmas.

    How much sunscreen?

We did the travel Coppertone sprays so 2 ounces not 3. We went through 3 ounces (1 1/2 travel bottles) for two adults in three days with swimming everyday. We both burn easily but also were bad about remembering to reapply. I'd probably buy/bring 2 bottles for fear 1 wouldn't be enough

    Full term pregnancy question

We're trying to conceive and my ob/gyn has told me that if it's not an emergency or unavoidable situation (wedding, birth of a family child, funeral, etc.) that you will not be cleared for travel more than 100 miles away in the last month so to plan accordingly if possible. I was also told I was...

    Pop or Movies?

Pop- extra day, dining taken care of (and likely to make up for most of the $500 difference), and no shared buses. If the $500 is make or break I don't think it would be bad to stay at Movies, but if you can swing it, I think the additional benefits at pop will make it better.

School Calender just came out. Would you rebook your vacation?

So the district I taught in used the end of term placement test to determine if a child could go in advanced math because they were held constant across teachers in multiple middle and elementary schools. I'm not using it as a scare tactic, I'm just saying it's different to miss a district test...

School Calender just came out. Would you rebook your vacation?

And kids that are out sick for a week often struggle too. I mean if that's the only 3 days of school the kid misses that year that's one thing. But if they miss 3 days for the trip, then 2 with a cold, then 1 for a baseball tournament, then a week in the winter with the flu or whatever, I've...

School Calender just came out. Would you rebook your vacation?

If it's possible to rebook (ie not an issue with the grownups getting time off from work or losing plane tickets, etc.), I'd rebook. I taught 4 and 6 grade in public schools and while Catholic schools tend to be smaller and more personal, particularly with a middle schooler I'd hesitate to miss...

    Starbucks questiom

Do the Starbucks in IoA and CityWalk accept Starbucks giftcards? I know the one at CBBR did last summer but I've read conflicting reports.

    SAPPHIRE FALLS thread........

So stupid question but as we're getting very close to our trip it keeps bugging me. How does one get from Sapphire Falls to Volcano Bay in the morning for Early Entry? Do we have to go all the way to the parks and then go over?

    SAPPHIRE FALLS thread........

Are there any scheduled activities at Sapphire Falls? If so does anyone have a sample calendar? I know that sadly the movies are gone.
