MAYBE A MAY TRIP?? 3 WEEKS SAPPHIRE FALLS 2021

I've never seen Grey's Anatomy, either!

We've been in Orlando since Saturday. It's hot, but the face masks aren't that big of a deal. We are having fun and making the best of it!😎

YAY!!!!!

An Andrea post......

Glad to see you and pleased you`re having fun.......I`ve been wondering how you were getting on.......yes, I think masks become second nature after a while......

Thank goodness someone else hasn`t seen it......everyone I know watched it and watches either reruns or DVD`s......lol.......

Enjoy the rest of your trip.......look forward to hearing about it :thumbsup2

Well, it`s been a week and a half!!!

We got our flight refunds for our May flights that never happened. We got it through doing a Credit Card chargeback as we thought Virgin may go under, which thankfully never happened......but we got word that the money was in our account just over a week ago......Thank you Amex!!!

I know some people are still waiting for their refunds and hope they get them soon. We are fortunate that we weren`t reliant on the money for another trip as some folks are, but it`s still nice to get it back. Better in our account!!!

Last week we got a little fed up of chatting about what will happen with the flight ban in the future and watching Florida handle the virus so badly, so we contacted Virgin and changed our September flights to an open ticket. Virgin have made this process really easy, and as soon as our dates are released for next September we`ll get that trip booked up!!!

And strangely, once that was done, we both felt a tremendous relief.......the decision was made and it was our decision. Sure, the flight ban might still be extended and that was always a risk, but seeing how things are in Florida made the final decision for us.

We really don`t want to be in Orlando under the circumstances that it would be. Masks, social distancing and everything else......then of course a theme park is one of the highest risk places to be......so for us, Orlando is not going to be somewhere we want to visit, even in September.

High risk of a virus like this one is not going to make a relaxing vacation. Not for us anyway. Health is far more important than any trip.

As to whether we want to travel in Nov/Dec.....well, that`ll be a decision for later in the year. Or the decision will be still out of our hands.

I`m very grateful to friends we have over there who have given us some guidance.....nothing like being in the front line to have an opinion!!

I feel for many folks that have or will have to cancel......we`re lucky we have many more trips planned, I know many who can`t go again any time soon. We are very lucky.

Tom and I are planning to hire a cottage somewhere for a week or so in late September. Kyle has decided not to come with us.....I think he is planning to "play house" for the time we`re away......lol......glad to hear it actually, it`s nice his life is starting back up again too......now we just have to decide where to go!!

I`m not sure Scotland will be open for us to travel so we have discounted going there, although as soon as it`s open to us we`ll go up there too as it`s been so long since I`ve seen my family. It`s been one of the worst things about this virus is that it`s kept families apart for such a long time......it is awful to read of families who haven`t seen each other for so long, and no sign of that changing anytime soon. I feel for every one of them.

The trip report will keep going though.......it may be a Christmas one.......or it may be a May 2021 TR!!!! But, regardless there will be a Trip Report!!!!

It may be the longest Pre Trip report ever......although I think @Raeven and I may tie for that title......lol......

You`re a great bunch that post on here and I thank all who wish us and each other well......there has been a lot of negativity on the boards in certain areas, but on here it`s been lovely.......and I`m glad of that......

On a day to day basis, not much has changed. Kyle is still working from home and will be till mid September now....they keep extending it weekly. I think he is hoping it`s sooner now, but once everything has been made safe of course in the offices.

For us, we have seen something of a few friends, so far in each other`s gardens....thankfully the weather has been nice. But, it does feel nice to feel as if we`re socialising again. And we aI ll feel the same.

We are braving a local restaurant for lunch tomorrow.......there will be 6 of us and the table is booked and they have been limiting numbers as they are supposed to be. They`ve owned the place quite a short time, so we really want them to succeed as they are so lovely. So, we are looking forward to that tomorrow.

So, lovelies.....I`m going to carry this one on.......it is still a Pre Trip report......and I`m still looking forward to all the places we`ll go and restaurants we`ll eat in on the next trip.....I always love to hear how many folks have tried somewhere Tom and I have been to and then love it too......one of the many reasons I love doing these reports......

I also need to change the title......again........ :rotfl:I may give it a temporary one meantime........that`ll work!!!!

Hope you all carry on reading....I may not update as regularly as normal, but it`s always lovely to read comments along the way......it really is a pleasure to have everyone along.

New update coming soon.........:wave2:

So sad you had to cancel but I totally understand that relief you feel. I just need to hop in my car and 4 hours later I'm at Universal. The AP hotel rates are deliciously tempting now too. I haven't officially cancelled my September trip yet and I know cancelling is the responsible thing to do but it still hurts to do it.

Yes, leave it as late as possible......you never know!!!

It absolutely hurts, but we didn`t have a choice in the end......so although we jumped first, it wouldn`t have happened anyway.

A short drive like that would tempt me beyond anything to just go......lol.....but I`m weak willed when it comes to Orlando........::yes::

I do know as things stand, we are relieved the flights aren`t going ahead.

Responsibility is very overrated.......:wave2:

I do not accept this! Hopefully the fact that it is blowing up now means that by fall it will have mellowed.

I know what you mean!!

We always have hope, but we have the flight ban issue to think about.....it seems a long way off right now, but it might still be in place for us. If we can fly we`ll be there....Kyle I doubt right now as he has no desire to go if there are still restrictions in place.....he`d rather wait.

Yes, hoping for better news out of Orlando soon, as there`s not much of it right now......

I really need to change that title for this Pre TR.........will think on it this weekend.....

Not much has changed since last update. Florida isn`t really doing much better than it was and some areas in the UK aren`t doing so well again either.

Still not convinced the Scotland trip will happen at the end of this month now. Like so many we have seen trips lost this year, but we remain upbeat and can still focus on looking forward.

The UK made the worldwide news yesterday....our last day of July was a record breaker for us with hot temperatures.......yes, it is that rare.......lol......it was glorious!!! In our garden we reached around 100F and there was a lovely breeze which made it bearable.......we spent the whole day, albeit mostly in the shade in the garden, not doing very much apart from sitting, chatting, one of the two of us may or may not have snoozed......hint....not me.....cooked on the barbecue for lunch and dinner, so it was just one of those lovely, relaxing and peaceful days.

Today is nice, maybe a high of 72f. No sitting baking today for us. Spent the morning catching up with emails and PM`s......along with baking some shortbread which smells gorgeous!

Hope wherever you are things are good. Some places seem to be doing pretty good and others not so much.......

But.......moving forward.........back to food!!!!!

MARGARITAVILLE

515075

We have gone through phases with Margaritaville over the years. The first few years, we loved it, went every year at least once and always enjoyed what we had and enjoyed the atmosphere a lot as it is just one of those places that screams fun to you........then they had a little blip for a couple of years where we actively avoided it, poor menu, atmosphere just wasn`t amazing as it had been and food was not the greatest........then around 3 or 4 years ago, we went back and it had gone back to the great place it had previously been.......

The music is always good....especially when they play Jimmy Buffet......yes, we have crooned along many times to Wastin away again in Margaritaville......I`m a huge believer in singing.......anytime, anyplace and anywhere.....

515069

Yes, I cannot hold a tune in a bucket  ......but those songs are so much fun!!! Not so much of course for folks that may be sitting close to us!!! My husband and son were not blessed with a singing voice either!!!

Margaritaville to a lot of people is famous for the huge nachos they serve......one of our early visits we did get it and like most people couldn`t even finish most of it.....

When they are brought out to the table, most people stop eating and look in wonderment as it passes by......and we were no different when this was brought out for us.

Kyle doesn`t eat it, so it was just for the two of us.......we barely made a dent in the dish.

It was nice, I`m not a huge fan of chilli so I tried to avoid that (not easy) and there was layers of chilli, cheese and salsa through the layers of nachos......it was so vibrant and colourful and looked visually appealing.....and incredibly tasty....

i-GR8nNJx-X2.jpg

This was last years offering..........

i-qHN8rnN-X2.jpg

It was dry, there were hardly any ingredients and around half the size it was all those years ago, maybe not a bad thing there......but it was such a disappointment after looking so impressive way back. And especially disappointing for me, the jalapenos you can see in the picture were about all there were.

But......I`ll forgive them for that as most of the food is pretty darn good.

The menu changed when Universal took it over and we lost some of the lovely things on the menu along the way......but, they do have a very good menu and most people can get something from it....even the fussiest of eaters will find something!!!

Yes, someone is a fan...........

i-DjjT5VD-X2.jpg

The Volcano behind the bar erupts every so often and it is quite the crowd pleaser.......

i-tCwzjhC-X2.jpg

And of course you have the constant entertainment they offer......who doesn`t know the Salt song........::yes::

i-wtxSbRn-X2.jpg

The two images below are from a long time ago, and the steak and shrimp were removed from the menu long ago......it was very nice though, I think it was a skirt steak.......

And the ever popular cheeseburger in paradise.....minus the cheese!! Back in the day when I could eat onion......these onion rings were among the nicest on offer....

i-78DRQJ5-X2.jpg

i-Lsgf293-X2.jpg

One of Tom`s favourite things in the world of food is a sandwich......and the turkey club is one of his absolute favourites! He has ordered this so many times from Margaritaville and he has never once managed to finish it......it is very large. Usually he asks for it minus the fries as it`s just too much, even with me helping a little, it`s still a massive feat to finish this one.

i-xbMbnkL-X2.jpg

I hadn`t tried their ribs as I had never heard good things about them, but last year Tom decided to give them a try and I have to say......I wished I had ordered them!!!

They were as good as any we have had in some of the best rib places around......full of flavour and fall off the bone tender.

i-9FKjMz9-X2.jpg

i-2HmGbD5-X2.jpg

Those of us who remember and enjoyed Nascar loved the Boogity Shrimp dish......this Lava Lava Shrimp dish is kind of similar.....not as spicy, but still lovely and I have to admit to ordering this more times than anything else in here.

IMG_9809%20%282%29-X2.jpg

Last December Kyle went for the fish and chips and we do find it odd the fish not being one huge piece as it usually is in the UK.....but this is so tasty, I don`t think he left a single piece.

i-xStfqQ6-X2.jpg

There are a lot of tables in here, and a good sized upstairs area too, but our favourite thing to do in here is sit at the bar and enjoy our food and drinks sitting their.......the staff are always fabulous and the banter from them is often hilarious.

And they have some wonderful cocktails......

i-mH7xXpj-X2.jpg

This one I wish I could remember the name......but.....Tom had mentioned the previous cocktail hadn`t had much of a kick.......despite me saying they always give a good pour......he just thought it lacked something, which frozen drinks can sometimes........

So, she said to him.......you want a drink with a kick with a large smile on her face........I knew it would be a strong one when she winked at me......:rotfl:

i-8dpS49H-X2.jpg

Tom`s face!

This wasn`t just a mule kicking you.....it was like 10 mules!!! Boy, was it strong.....but still tasty that it wasn`t overwhelmingly alcoholic. Although I couldn`t have drunk it all, it was a tad too strong for me......

i-2RWhM3v-X2.jpg

I did love the Margarita Flight......gives you an idea of flavours.....it included the Blackberry, Watermelon, regular and I think Mango.......we enjoyed these a couple of times.

i-rFQDD79-X2.jpg

But........my favourite.....favourite cocktail from them all is the fruity and very strong Blackberry Margarita!

First time I tried it, it was made for me by Irish Jack.....who sadly left Margaritaville a while back to go back to being a Wrestler.......he was a very cool guy!!!!!! And his cocktail making skills were legendary.......

This one is definitely number 1 in my cocktail choice.......outwith Strong Water I think, and it just might be my overall favourite.

But, haven`t had a bad one yet from there......

i-XkMWJwm-X2.jpg

They also do a very nice Sangria......not sure of the quality of the wine, but I`m probably too fussy there......but good quality brandy went into it and it was a nice mix.......it`s not one I would drink a lot of as it was slightly too sweet for me, but decent measures....you do get a good pour in here.

i-D9VGrSf-X2.jpg

As well as the main restaurant they do have The Lone Palm opposite which is lovely sitting in the outdoors overlooking the lagoon area is very nice.

Sadly as it`s outdoor they allow smoking, so we have only ever enjoyed a drink there once and once only. It`s not pleasant to be close to someone smoking iin any circumstances, but trying to drink anything or eat food around it is impossible. I have to admit, we are all incredibly sensitive to cigarette/cigar smoke and detest it in an over the top way.......so we will move away from anyone who smokes.

Thankfully we don`t have a single friend who smokes. One used to but he gave up a long time ago, so we have never had issues with smokers. Even when we have outdoor parties, I would hate anyone to be smoking. May be over the top to some, but for us it`s just horrible. I would love Universal to bring in a complete smoking ban......and enforce it!!!

i-8Bkv53L-X2.jpg

We are looking forward to going back here whenever we make it......it`s one of these places you just enjoy whether it`s for food or just drinks.......the atmosphere is always wonderful and the food is just darn good!!!

And maybe try the Blackberry Margarita.......you`ll love it!!!

Next update soon.......hope you are all doing fabulously........:wave2:

On our last visit in January, I tried the Blackberry Margarita based on your recommendation. I can attest it is spectacular! 🎉 I do agree the nachos are now a disappointment. I had fish tacos last time and they were fabulous! I was easily able to sub grilled fish for fried, and found them to then be light and refreshing. Margaritaville is back in the “must,” category for us! Plus it’s right there when walking back to RPR — it really couldn’t be more convenient when staying there ☺️

Oh good girl Maria!!!! It would definitely be my choice if I could transport one cocktail right now from UO.......we have the same products to make it up here, as we saw what they were using and bought them over there.....I developed a real love for blackberry brandy that way......lol.......but it never quite tastes the same......

Never tried the Tacos, Tom would have that, glad they were so good. And oh yes, so handy for walking back to RP......albeit maybe a little slower than usual after two or three of them........😉

Tom`s face!

This wasn`t just a mule kicking you.....it was like 10 mules!!! Boy, was it strong.....but still tasty that it wasn`t overwhelmingly alcoholic. Although I couldn`t have drunk it all, it was a tad too strong for me......

I did love the Margarita Flight......gives you an idea of flavours.....it included the Blackberry, Watermelon, regular and I think Mango.......we enjoyed these a couple of times.

They also do a very nice Sangria......not sure of the quality of the wine, but I`m probably too fussy there......but good quality brandy went into it and it was a nice mix.......it`s not one I would drink a lot of as it was slightly too sweet for me, but decent measures....you do get a good pour in here.

Ahh yes the margarita flights......!!!!!

The famous Blackberry!!!

All wonderful choices!!

Doing just fabulously!!!!!

It was nice, I`m not a huge fan of chilli so I tried to avoid that (not easy) and there was layers of chilli, cheese and salsa through the layers of nachos......it was so vibrant and colourful and looked visually appealing.....and incredibly tasty....

Wow, that's an insane amount of nachos...I'm glad to hear they were at least layered (back then) because I hate when you eat off the toppings at the top and then you just have dry chips...blech. Sorry they went downhill.

The Volcano behind the bar erupts every so often and it is quite the crowd pleaser.......

That's always fun. Have you seen the one in Vegas where the girl slides down into the drink? (I think I vaguely recall one of your TR's that you went there if I'm not imagining?)

I did love the Margarita Flight......gives you an idea of flavours.....it included the Blackberry, Watermelon, regular and I think Mango.......we enjoyed these a couple of times.

That's my kind of flight! I'm not a beer fan and always see beer flights on menus...but this is a flight I could get behind..

We have a Margaritaville here in Niagara Falls Canada...you have actually given me an idea for a covid road trip...gotta see if they have a patio lol

Hi, Carole! Great update as always☺

We are back from a fun week at Disney, Sea World, Aquatica, and Busch Gardens. Still trying to get my post-vacation head on straight...ha ha! Things are definitely different in a covid-19 world, but there was still plenty of fun to be had. Of course, I don't want to hijack your thread, but if anybody needs info about traveling right now, I'm glad to help 😃

Yes, Nachos were excellent all those years ago.....now, yes, they were dry underneath....such a shame as they are so popular......

lol...wish I had been to Vegas.....only other place we`ve been in America is NY.....but Vegas is on our ever growing list of places we`ll visit.

Yes, I`m not a beer flight person either.....Tom is....but the Margarita flight is right up my street!!!

Niagara Falls is another place I`d like to see.....weirdly my first memory of seeing it is in the Niagara movie with Marilyn Monroe......of course seen it many times since, but it is certainly impressive and would be well worth a visit.......and Margaritaville with a patio sounds a fabulous idea for a trip........:wave2:

Yay.......you`re back!!!

Thanks....it was well overdue!!!

I am SO glad to hear you had a wonderful trip...yes, different maybe, but still fun!! To get back to normal now is the hardest part......::yes::

Oh please hijack away.......would love to hear all about it and how the parks you went to were managing the new regime....we hear so many various reports from folks, so yes would love your viewpoint.....

I was reading on another site masks weren`t being enforced at Sea World? And how did you enjoy Busch Gardens??

Did you see the boat that sunk on Splash Mountain.......lol......

Yes, I saw that about the Splash Mountain boat! Thankfully, we were able to ride with no problems. We were able to handle mask wearing with no real problems. Obviously, it was HOT, so that complicated things a bit. I realized that I had forgotten to pack all of my makeup, but it hardly mattered. I think any cosmetics would just melt off your face with a sweaty mask on!

The crowds were VERY low at Seaworld, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot. We had only planned to spend 1 day at Disney, but since crowds were so low, we spent an extra day there. Disney is great to enforcing the mask policy (I have heard Universal does a good job, too). Seaworld and Busch Gardens were another story. There was pretty much no enforcement, and we saw tons of folks with masks on improperly or not at all. If you are concerned about mask compliance, I would definitely stay away from the Seaworld parks for now. It's a shame. Busch Gardens was OK, but I don't think we will be returning any time soon. If you don't like roller coasters (I love them, but my husband and daughter don't), there is very little to fill the day. Lines were, surprisingly, very long at Busch Gardens. I suppose it was mainly because of decreased ride capacity and the mandatory hourly cleaning. Honestly, we didn't get a lot ridden there because of it. The drive to Tampa is a breeze, though, and we found a delicious Mediterranean restaurant and a great vintage toy store in town. We would probably return just for those!

Thanks for your views on the parks Andrea......:thumbsup2

Glad you managed to ride splash without incident.......lol......I wonder how that happened at all.......we did love Splash Mountain when we went to Disney......glad the crowds were so low for you and you got some extra time in Disney....I`d have taken advantage of that too......

That is worrying for Sea World and Busch too. I really did think all the parks would be almost military like in enforcing the masks. Disney and Universal seem to be on top of it......

We`ve never gone to Busch Gardens and have always tinkered with the idea almost every visit.....but never get around to it. There`s something that just doesn`t appeal to me about the place....although we have been tempted with their Howl `o` Scream......

Yes, the drive to Tampa is an easy one.....although we did get lost once in 2007 when they were doing massive roadworks...we were coming home from Clearwater and detoured to a rather unsavoury area where we were "rescued" by a police car......it was quite an experience we don`t want to repeat....lol......

We`ve also never actually gone into Tampa itself......that`s another box we keep meaning to tick, but it`s nice you found somewhere you`d like to go back to again.....a vintage toy store sounds so lovely.......

Er....so when`s the next trip planned.......:wave2:

Love the new title!! Fingers crossed for you that this trip works out! :santa:

Thanks Elsa.......right now we have no clue if it`ll happen or not......if not it`ll be a May name I`ll be thinking of ::yes::......I have a couple in mind.......

And nice to see a little Christmas smilie.......although I`m sure our stores will have Christmas Card in soon......they did last August!!!!

:wave2:
