ABC television received the worst grade among four broadcasters for progress on promoting racial diversity in front of and behind the camera, a report by the Multiethnic Coalition says. ABC received a D-minus from the group, which includes the National Latino Media Council, the Asian Pacific American Media Coalition and American Indians in Film and Television. General Electric Co.'s NBC earned the highest grade, a C.

The networks were graded on their ability to increase employment of minorities for acting, writing and directing jobs in the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 TV seasons. The networks signed agreements with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and other minority groups more than 18 months ago to increase diversity in programming and among senior executives. The NAACP said in January that it may boycott one of the major U.S. TV networks and its advertisers to protest what the group considers a lack of progress.

The other networks surveyed were News Corp.'s Fox and Viacom Inc.'s CBS. Fox received a C-minus, and CBS received a D-plus.

OK, why is it so hard to be color-blind when you hire someone? It shouldn't matter what flavor a person is, but what s/he can do. [steps down, removes soap-box, and retires to the wings]

Just another grab for attention by the naacp, trying to make themselves relevant when they are not. How come we are supposed to be a colorblind society and thats all they look at, and add american indians/hispanics to get even more attention when they coudlnt careless about those groups other than for PR!
