After Fireworks Party

So I've just read this article, and guys, I'm a little upset. I booked the Garden View Dessert party for our upcoming trip in June so I didn't HAVE to fight the crowds with my family to enjoy HEA. I liked the idea of having wiggle room and not being sardined into the garden area for viewing.

I understand it's a 'money making' move by Disney, but this really irritates me. I assume, perhaps wrongly, that the garden area these folks will have reserved seating in will be the same as those of us with the 'before fireworks' party? Is there another garden area for the terrace?

That's how I read it. I am booked about a week later, and I won't be happy if this means twice the people in that section. Especially just after a price increase.

I agree its a bummer if they double the people in that area. That being said my group would be more likely to book this after party rather than the early one because they ask you to show up 75min before the show and I feel like that is a lot of lost time in the park AND it would be right after dinner so we would be full already.

I am interested in what the check in requirements for this extra is.

I looked on the website to see if any info was up yet. We have CRT reservations the same night as our party, and even though I'm not happy about there being more people there....at least if we can switch it to the 'after' party maybe we'd actually eat some of the snacks. Guess I'm going to have to call.

FYI - there is a dedicated thread to this in Theme Park Attractions and Strategy board and there is a lot of speculation on how it will work. Some people have called to try to get more details but that seems to have just confused things further

Some speculation is this would use the other area in the garden view but others think it will just double the people in the one area, thus eliminating the benefit of booking this if your primary goal is to avoid crowds

yeah, as of now you have to call for this after party

So what's the difference between this and the Garden View Dessert party?

One you get your desserts before the fireworks and the other you get after??

I am surprised Disney just doesn't close off the entire hub and charge a fee to see the fireworks in FRONT of the castle.

So the difference is:

Pre-Party Poeple: Arrive 75 min before HAE to Tomorrowland Terrace, eat snacks for an hour, then escorted to viewing area to watch

Post-Party People: Arrive 30 mins (or whatever) early to get your wrist band, go to the viewing area and watch the show first, then go to the Tomorrowland Terrace to eat snacks

Concern is, are both groups now in the same area and thus double the people for viewing (and negating the benefit of booking this and not having to deal with crowds)? Does this actually penalize the people that already booked the existing party as they would be the second group tot he area with the post-party people having taken up the best spots?

Personally our primary goal with booking something like this isnt to avoid crowds...its WDW after all...but to assure having a prime spot without having us stake out the spot for HOURS beforehand.

That was part of what I meant about the crowds - that you have an area set aside that you don't have to "deal with the crowds" to get a good spot

But you are right, there are really two elements to it - the securing a spot and then just the crowds in general (of being shoulder to shoulder)

I've shot an email over to Disney inquiring about the placement of guests for these parties since I will likely cancel our regular dessert party if we're all going to be crammed into the same garden area. Hopefully with it being an email someone will take the time to actually ask and find out since it's not needing an immediate answer like calling. We're scheduled for our party on June 5th, so I won't have much time to cancel without cost until someone hits up the new party the first night or two and lets us know here.

I really hope Disney has something worked out for the reserved area rather than just doubling up the crowds in the garden area. We had just considered doing a Dessert Party in August but couldn't justify the cost - we ended up getting an ADR for the Rivers of Light Package at Tiffins instead which is $67pp/25child.

I already can't believe Disney is charging MORE for snacks/desserts and fireworks standing-room-only package at one park vs signature dining and reserved-seating package at another (yes I know how popular HEA is vs. RoL), but we did at least think about the fireworks party since it was a special occasion. Cram more people into the same area and I would not even consider doing it.

If everybody would just buy both, then only half the people will be there, and you get double the snacks.

Problem solved......:duck:

Bad form Disney.

Any if you order the Wagyu beef you can even save money with the Tiffins ROL package. We did it in December and my meal would've been over $80 without the package. Seems strange, but I'm not complaining!

From what I read, the snacks are different at the after party (or at least very different than the snacks I had at the dessert party in April). Hopefully they would be the same, but if not menu could impact my decision making. Then again, if you are crammed in like sardines I won't go no matter what.

Somewhere in a communication about the after party they mentioned that food would be changing for all MK dessert parties. So it is believed the food will be same for all. They just added confusion about where all the garden party people will be watching the show and if they will be all smashed together or not.

I was so disappointed to hear about this since I just booked this for our October trip. But at least by then we should know what to expect and I can adjust as necessary. I really hope the space doesn't become overcrowded since that was just a big plus for us.

Well, I still haven't gotten a response to my email, so I just called today. I got my schedule mixed up and we're due to have our party on the 7th. LOL. (Too many extras!) Any who, the CM still didn't know anything for the viewing besides "The plaza garden area", so it didn't help much. But, for now, I've switched us from the regular party to the after party since we have an ADR at CRT at 5:30 the same day. This at least gives us time to digest our food from that and maybe attempt snacks at the party afterward so I'm not paying solely for a view that may or may not be what I had anticipated by reading all the reviews before the change. Fingers crossed.

I really like this change. We missed the entire dessert portion of our Final Wishes dessert party last year because it was on our arrival day. We then did one for HEA and I hated having to be there so early after dinner and missing prime park time. If we book for this coming trip (which we probably will since the one time we did the dessert party was the ONLY time on our trip that we got to see HEA from the front of the castle) then we will for sure book the after party.
