My mom may be able to go with us next March on our trip to AKV. She has an open invitation to come with us anytime she wants to. My only concern now is the bathtubs at Jambo vs walk in showers at other DVCs. She walks with a cane and has a chair to sit in her bathtub to take a shower at home.

Does anyone know what the accomodations are for handicap rooms at AKV? Do they have showers or only have bathtubs? And if you have a two bedroom villa, would both bathrooms be handicap equipped or is only a certain room type reserved for handicap accomodations?

I'm interested in this too. Our daughter needs a rollin shower and wants to stay at AKV next time she goes with us to WDW.

My guess is that there will only be a rollin shower...no tub. That is the configuration for rollin shower rooms in the regular resorts. There are other accessible rooms that have tubs with railings in the tub and around the toilet. If your MIL is steady enough to handle that type, WDW will provide shower stools.

I wonder too about the second bathroom.:confused3

A shower stool would be perfect for her as that is what she has at home. We had a room with the rails once at AKL club level and I remember thinking that it certainly wouldn't work for someone in a wheelchair. That was a studio.

in a studio it will be a roll in shower.

in a 2-bedroom - the shower will be the roll in type. the whirlpool tub will be untouched. with the studio connection I think it could be both. Some studio with just the roll in, other studio with standard stuff.

I think the choice is up to you?

I only get studio.

be aware that while mother loved the shower - she hated the toliet - say it was too high for her?

Hmmmm... does all of that apply to AKV though? AKV has the regular tubs and no showers for the Jambo house normal rooms, I believe. Unless the accessible rooms are different and DO have just showers.

Yes, in Jambo House I don't think the rooms are large enough to have both a shower and a tub in the master bath.

As for studios, I don't think we know yet what the configurations with lockoffs will be.

In general though, WDW provides two types of accessible rooms. The first type have tubs with bars and a raised toilet with a bar on the side. You can request a shower stool or transfer bench for those rooms.

The other type of accessible rooms have rollin showers. In DVC 1BR, the whirlpool tub is still there. In studios and regular resort rooms, the rollin takes the place of the tub with shower head. In the rooms we've had at BCV, VB, GF and the Polynesian, there is a very sturdy fold down stool in the shower. I think our BC room was like that too but it was many years ago now that we stayed in such a room.
